Adrian laughed, "Wow, a level twenty-seven. And here I thought the upper threshold was level twenty-five."

Radley kept a poker face and readied his broken weapon.

Adrian continued, "The armor on that bad boy there would make you a tidy sum. Even the meat is grand."

Radley gagged at that reply. Adrian chuckled, "Stop judging a book by its cover…mmm, I would say the meat rather sweet. The best taste I can compare it to would be prawns, I guess. To boot the meat is relatively soft if it is prepared right. With some nice garlic and b.u.t.ter."

"Do you always ramble on to everyone you meet in the wild."

"Yeah, sometimes, or is it just you. I kind of liked your pair of b.a.l.l.s, taking on that creature. For obvious reasons, I do not think you are at that level. In fact, I think you are at a rather low level. Level five maybe level six."

He sprinted forward faster than Radley's ability could even perceive. His instincts told him to dodge and the tiniest of scratches formed in his face.

Adrian was soundly impressed, "That is some serious dodging capability you got there."

Adrian brought the small knife towards his nose, "While I have to admit that I didn't draw as much blood as I would have liked I should still be at least able to ascertain your level with this."

He sniffed the tip of the blade, as his eyes widened in shock, "This can't be right? Kid, are you a level two?"

Radley closed his eyes and opened it again, "So, what if I am?"

"Kid, you just took out a level five as a level two…that is…Did I just…witness that?" He was starting to question his own sanity. He walked closer towards Radley. Radley readied his broken axe. All Adrian did was touch Radley to make sure he was real, "f.u.c.k me, kid, you are a G.o.d d.a.m.n savant. What's your name?"

"My name is none of your concern."

"Okay, then let me ask you this. Do you want my help?"

"No."

"I can butcher that boy for you. You are going to have a hard time getting through that exoskeleton."

Radley knew as much. Butchering this thing would be no joke, "What do you want in return?"

"Some of the meat. I really love this stuff, but the b.u.g.g.e.rs are pretty elusive."

"It has a bright white carapace as well as a glowing tail, how is that a hard creature to find."

"Simple, they are ambush predators. I don't know if you have noticed but this little cavern is filled bioluminescence. s.h.i.+t like that hides in the undergrowth using its tail to lure prey. The problem is that the tail looks exactly like a favored bulb that little glow bats enjoy. You must have been really lucky to find this creature out in the open like that."

"How much would such an animal be worth?"

"It depends on the weight, but I would say on average it would be around 150 kilos(about 330 pounds). I will take about let say fifty kilos. This is for personal consumption, not for sale. They go about twenty-five dollars on the kilo. You do the math. Not to mention the carapace that is really great as armor, which sells about four hundred dollars on the kilo."

"Four hundred!?"

"Did I stutter?"

"No, I mean that is some serious dos.h.!.+ How much carapace do you think a person could get?"

"Again depends on the size, but I would say around twenty kilos (about 44 pounds)."

Radley ran the numbers in his head. He wanted to use some of the carapaces to reinforce his gear. Given how much of the carapace there was and it only made for about twenty kilos deducting five kilos will still give him fifteen kilos to work with. That would make…6000 Dollars plus 2500 from the meat alone, would mean 7500! That was more than two times the amount he made from the compet.i.tion. That would hopefully put him back in the green. He had no idea how much it would cost to fix his gear.

Adrian looked at the broken axe, and pointed towards it, "Neodizamate, right?"

Radley nodded, as Adrian continued, "Good material. Even higher levels use it. What was the base made off?"

"Life tree, I believe."

"While it is some of the best wood you can find it tends to lose its strength on creatures of level four and above. You need a metal-based handle. Might I suggest Roselium? It's lightweight and good for low levels, much stronger than any wood."

Radley nodded, "My biggest problem is cash flow."

"I will have my brother hook you up. Heck, if needs be I will sponsor you. You have too much going for yourself to be placed among the ma.s.ses. I saw that fight. I still can't believe it. So, what do you say to my proposal?"

"If you are on the up and up, I will accept."

"Excellent. Let me get to work then. You just look and learn."

Radley nodded.

Adrian worked deftly and swiftly. It was clear he was accustomed to butchering. Perhaps he was some sort of hunter, but what didn't make sense was, why he was in this cavern, "Could I ask you a question?"

"You already did, but shoot."

"Why are you in this cavern?"

Adrian tilted his head slightly, "I live here."

"Huh? Wouldn't that be rather lonely?"

Adrian laughed, "There is a town in this cave."

"Huh? But I didn't see anything."

"You were probably looking down."

He pointed to the top of the great spires, "Over there. See that odd-looking thing that connected both pillars? That's a bridge, man-made."

Radley looked up. So that was where he was going, but how the h.e.l.l was he going to get up there!

"How the h.e.l.l are you supposed to get up there!?"

"There is this magical invention called stairs. There used to be elevators but the dam bats flew into them too much. It became too much of a ha.s.sle to use it. Stairs are around the pillars themselves but due to the flora it's hard to spot them."

Adrian removed the venom sack, "Oh yeah, this little b.i.t.c.h over here is about 5k itself."

More money?! Jackpot!
