Paxton chuckled and cut off a piece of meat from an animal that Radley didn't even recognize which was on a spit over the fire.
Radley tore into the meat as if it was his first meal ever. He sighed in comfort.
Paxton raised an eyebrow, "A man would swear you were never fed before. So what brings you to our humble spot over here?"
The other voice sounded off behind Radley who was still aiming a crossbow at Radley, "Why are you trusting him? He could be lying! I say we should toss him."

Radley turned around and looked at the crossbow wielder. An innocent good looking female with a round face. Early twenty perhaps even Radley's age even. She was wearing a blond ponytail and had green eyes with the unusual feature of very dark eyebrows. Name: Emily, Lv. 10 Cautious nature.
Radley was starting to think that he was out of his depth in general. Paxton slapped his own forehead, "There you go again…just ignore her."
"Was I interrupting some alone time?"
"Alone time?"
"You know…that thing?"
Paxton tilted his head sideways, "Are you asking that we are doing it in the middle of the wilderness? That's gross, dude."
"Why?"
"Because she is my niece."
"That doesn't make sense, there isn't even a few year's difference between you two."
"Yip, I was a very late child. My mother had me when she was thirty-eight. My brother was a good seventeen years older than me. Crazy stuff, I know."
"Okay, so I was interrupting family time?"
"No, you weren't interrupting anything. She's just got a stick up her a.s.s. By the way, her name is Erina. Mine is Paxton." Radley kept it secret that he already knew.
She was pouting by that time, as she reluctantly put her crossbow down, "I have my eye on you."
"Thank you, I guess? My name is Radley. Do not know where here is, but I just got propped here less than a few hours ago."
Paxton smiled, "Then let me give you a bit of background. This here stretch of land is called Arcana. Some call it new Australia."
"Australia? Why new Australia?"
"Australia used to be here. Not so much anymore. Some say the continent swallowed it. Others say Australia magically disappeared into the void. What really happened? n.o.body knows. One moment it was there and the next it was gone. All we know is Australia disappeared right after the moon landing."
"It almost sounds like this is modern-day. What year is it?"
"Dude, you make it sound like you are an offworlder."
"Offworlder?"
"Oh, it's a term we use to describe people that isn't from this world. I and my niece are some of them."
"Wait, so people coming from another world isn't uncommon?
"Well, I wouldn't go that far. They are pretty rare. Most Invo users come from this world. Children born with the propensity to be able to enhance themselves in one form or another goes to specialized inst.i.tutions to aid and combat the threat that this continent poses. By the way, this continent is twice as big as Australia was. Most of the surrounding islands disappeared when Australia disappeared. The world outside Arcana is pretty much modern. They have internet and electricity. This continent doesn't, but some of the coastal towns do. Heck, they even have internet. Unfortunately, the beasts on Arcana is wayyy to hostile to implement a communications array of any sort."
"Then, what's the point of it all? Why not just live in the coastal towns?"
"Money, besides the source, of course. Do you know that Arcana is filled with elements that aren't even on the periodic table? New species galore. An Invo Specialist will be able to make millions within a year, the only problem is the currency on this continent. We use the Australian dollar and n.o.body trades with anything else, due to the fact that it's currently considered the most valuable currency in the world. One Australian dollar equals to five American dollars. Bitcoin doesn't count. A quick way to make money is usually with animals' bones. Mining is also an option but it's difficult to find the right resources to make really good weapons, hence animal bones. Animal bones are great for weapons, keep that in mind."
A lot of information was thrown at Radley, but it was all useful, "Where would I be able to find the closest town?"
"Try going north. There is a ma.s.sive floater there that has a town built onto it. Why don't you drop by in the tavern over there? Cause that is where we live."
"I could go with you guys now."
Paxton shook his head, "No, that ain't gonna happen. We still have a quota to meet. That means we have to go hunt. That means that you will only be in the way. Sorry, in this dog eat dog world that is too much of a burden. Sorry mate."
Radley looked back into the sky. So much for that. Guess until he got stronger, somehow, he was destined to be alone.
Paxton saw his expression and said, "Don't look so glum, chum. Try and make it to the floating town. It's called Argoon."
Radley gets. .h.i.t by a piece of leather upside his head. It annoyed him slightly. Erina spoke up, "Use that. It's better then…that."
She points to the large leave barely covering his junk.
This surprised Radley, "Thank you. I wasn't expecting that. Truly, thank you."
Erina was mildly amused, "Think nothing of it."
Radley turned towards Paxton and asked, "Why do they have specialized inst.i.tutions for creating more…uuhm, Invo Specialists?"
"The other continents want protection. Modern-day weaponry is about as useful as a fart in the wind in normal hands. They even went as far as to drop a nuke and all it did was p.i.s.s off the indigenous fauna. Only weapons used by an Invo specialist can combat these creatures and they tend to bleed out into the world, causing the occasional mischief."
Paxton stood up after they had their meal, "You can have the rest of the food. Remember head north."
Radley stood up and shook his hand with a smile, "See you around."
Paxton nodded. Just there and then a beast plops onto the floating rock they were on.
