Against someone who didn't suffer a single wound against the blue-furs and even seemed to be bored afterward, they knew they had to be careful.
At this point, Geralt and Jay had about the same combat strength in combat, thanks to Jay's wounds.
"Oh, you two are the commanders I a.s.sume, where is your lord?"
The 2 of them smirked when they felt the commander's aura pressuring them before releasing their own auras surprising the commander.
He had a slight smile on his lips when he felt their auras which nearly equaled his own. A first rank expert against 2 pseudo-first rank experts. This wasn't something that was seen often at this point.
The commander held his sword in his right hand casually, leaving all sorts of ma.s.sive openings.
Yet neither of the 2 men moved, they had clearly decided beforehand they would act carefully around him. Despite this being the smart choice, it still disappointed the commander who was starting to look forward to killing these people.
The taunts of the red commander were clear for them to see, and in truth, being looked down upon like this did hurt their pride a little. After a bit, Jay decided to test this red commander, the next big opening he showed an icy pike which was hidden behind Jay's back shot towards it.
As expected it didn't land, the commander's sword moved up at a nearly inhuman speed, blocking the pike. Jay frowned, it seemed like this commander was a peak tier-one fighter, who would be able to break through to the second tier not too long from now.
This was a worrisome scenario if he was in his peak condition they might have had a decent chance at victory but as they were now, victory was improbable.
Hold up, since this siege group consisted of just over 100 people it would be cla.s.sified as a 'complete siege group' by the system. This meant that it was handled similarly to a town fight.
Since the commander was still alive and hadn't surrendered it meant that they needed 90 percent of the enemies to surrender in order to be given victory. This was how he got the blue-furs last time.
But when he managed to steal a glance at the main battlefield, he noticed that many of the Iceborne who were previously about to surrender had picked up their weapons again.
This was probably done since Jay and Geralt, the 2 strongest forces of the combined army had left. They were probably waiting to see how the battle went on his side before they would decide whether to surrender or not.
Jay couldn't help but curse himself if he had thought of this earlier he wouldn't have had to fight this commander and would even have had him in his forces. This situation was a bad one. There was no way to disengage since Geralt wouldn't be able to stall him for long enough.
There was 1 way they might be able to win, they just had to disarm him. Jay's sword was a C+ grade weapon with Sharpness III, so if he managed to hit the commander's sword properly it would break.
Now the question was how to do that, his test earlier had shown him the commander was even faster than himself when he wasn't wounded, leave alone now.
After a bit of thinking, Jay realized he didn't have a choice. He would have to break through to a first rank mage, right here, right now.
This would paint a huge target on his back since he would be the first human from earth to become a first rank and any nearby settlements would know his general location.
Jay let his aura, which previously had an aggressive feel to it, become more like a liquid, going with the flow of the wind, giving off a calm feeling.
The red commander felt something was wrong and decided to attack at this moment, lunging towards Jay. Yet in the end, Geralt forced him to stop as he stabbed right at one of the openings in the commander's armor.
The spear he was holding had an elusive feel to it, one could never really tell where exactly it was which was a troublesome thing, even for the commander.

Luckily Jay had already been forced to hold back his breakthrough for a while now, allowing it to happen really quickly now.
A golden light enveloped Jay. The light rose all the way to the clouds, coloring them gold.
Meanwhile, all over the region, human lords felt something urging them to look into that direction. The closer ones that knew the meaning of this light got a bit worried. They would all make preparations soon, to make sure they wouldn't be beaten why whomever it was that became a first rank.
At this point, the red commander no longer looked bored in the slightest. He had noticed that Jay was wounded earlier, greatly lowering his battle prowess. But since he was one of the first, or perhaps even the first, human to get to the first rank, he was enveloped by the light of fate.
The light of fate was something that would increase a beings talent. It also had the side-effect of healing hidden injuries on the body.
At first, the commander was confident that he would be able to beat them, but when he noticed the invisible lines of sword intent which seemed to be emerging from Jay's body during his rank-up he became less confident.
He had only recently been able to master sword intent recently, and it wasn't nearly as strong as what he could now sense.
After a short deliberation, the red commander turned around and ran, unwilling to put his life on the line for this mission.
This battle was Pangea's victory, but the price they had to pay was heavy. Now they wouldn't only be targetted by the Iceborne.
