I lean back and kick him to push him back but he grabs my ankle and looks at me with those intense burning eyes. "What the h.e.l.l are you doing? Are you a freaking stalker!? Why are you here and let my leg go!" I say trying to pull my leg free but he doesn't release it, instead, he pulls me closer to him and says "I've never stalked anyone until you came along."

I blink at him in confusion as he says "But, I wasn't stalking you this time. After you left, I kept replaying what you said in my head and it's not sitting right with me. I came here to ask you more about it when I caught the hunter's scent."

"I came running in because of all the deaths of the witches lately... why would you invite a witch hunter into your house while you're all alone?" He asks with barely restrained anger. I try to pull my leg away from him again but he's entirely too strong.

"Have I missed something here? Do we know each other well or are we dating? Why the h.e.l.l are you acting like this!?" I say with anger of my own. He sneers at me as he says "Do not act like you don't feel the pull of a mate between the two of us. I know your hiding something more but I can't understand why you keep running from me, from what we could be."

"Do you have any idea how long I've waited for a potential mate? Why are you so intent on staying alone? I would never hurt you..." He says with a look of pain on his face. My chest rises and falls with my breath, fear and anger mixing within me and clouding my thoughts.

"You want to know so badly? Release me and I'll show you..." I say in a low whisper full of anger. It looks like it's time for me to relocate. He hesitates for a moment before releasing me. I push him back and start walking to the back door.

Xander silently follows me with that same intense look in his amber eyes but as I walk out into the dark backyard, I come to a stop and turn to look at him. He comes to a slow stop and watches me intently but doesn't say anything as if he's afraid I'd stop.

Was I really about to show him what I really was? Why? Did I secretly wish to trust him or did I already? Maybe I wanted to prove my point and watch as he freaks out and tries to kill me. If he does... I'll fry his a.s.s.

Was there something wrong with my logic? Yeah but I'm a little twisted and messed up so I guess it's expected. That and for some reason... I keep doing things I normally wouldn't with this Alpha. I lift my face up to the bright moon and use my magic to s.h.i.+ft. Within an instant, I drop to all fours as magic washes over me in a warm comforting wave.

When I look back to Xander, I find him in complete shock. "I... Impossible. They, you... they're supposed to be extinct... how?" He says slowly stepping forward. I growl at him in warning and he quickly stops, lifting both hands as he says "I'm not going to hurt you Eris. I get it now... I get it but you're safe. I'm not going to hurt you and I will kill anyone else who tries."

I snort at him and quickly s.h.i.+ft back, shocking him again. "How?" He asks trying to step forward again. I glare at him and say "I'm a paradox wrapped in the impossible..." I stay standing in the yard, glaring at the Alpha who is currently getting on his knees.

He's doing it to put me at ease... Being an Alpha, he always has a sense of danger that follows him with an incredible amount of pressure so he's trying to lower himself and make himself less threatening.

It may work for other s.h.i.+fters but I'm not a full s.h.i.+fter, his aura isn't too powerful for me but it can make me uneasy when he gets angry. It's still sweet though... I sigh and say "Get up. I'm not full s.h.i.+fter so your Alpha waves aren't scaring me."

He quickly rises to his feet and tries to step closer but I take a step back and say "We can talk like this. I have a privacy barrier around this entire house so anything that's said or seen will be kept private." He doesn't look happy about it but he nods his head and says "Come to my pack. I can keep you safe and the others will accept you."

I roll my eyes and say "I don't want to join your pack, Xander. I can't and won't be accepted. Look at me! I'm a mix of two worlds and the two worlds don't mix. That's why nothing can work between us. You need to move on and find yourself a full s.h.i.+fter to settle down with. I full s.h.i.+fter woman who will give you a full litter of cute full s.h.i.+fter pups."

He takes another step closer, causing me to step back again as he says "I don't want another s.h.i.+fter. I want you and I know that you and I can work. I'll make it work and I'll keep you safe and hidden. If you can outrun me, I'll walk away. Deal?"

I narrow my eyes at him and start panicking as I say "Outrun you? Who's agreeing to that!? Just leave." He pulls off his t-s.h.i.+rt and tosses it to the side, instantly causing my heart to race as he gives me a dark grin while saying "Legend has it that the Snow Leopards were the fastest of our kind so the odds should be in your favor, right?"

When he starts to pull off his pants I curse and turn, s.h.i.+fting into my leopard mid-jump. The second my padded paws. .h.i.t the soft ground, I dig my sharp claws in and take off. The a.s.shole!! Why am I running!? WHY!!???
