They had surrounded her on every corner of the building and started attacking her with fire magic the moment Ellie left with Xadi and Lance.
However, Evlin wasn't worried. She might not have had the best luck when dealing with Mia or her spirits, but that was mostly due to lacking her original power as a recreation mage.
Right now, she had her staff, her magic, and even her old partner, Sphinx, to provide a huge boost on all her spells. She was back at full force and ready to take on anyone.
"Huuuuuu..." Evlin took a deep breath while the fireb.a.l.l.s attacks continued to approach, and used a move that she had found out about after diving into the memories of her pet griffin from the battle on the demon kingdom. "ROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!!" she yelled with all her strength, the same kind of scream that Sphinx used. So powerful that could even break ice.
The wind pressure was released from her lungs and completely dissipated the fireb.a.l.l.s.
"Impossible!" Leona said while looking at Evlin completely shocked.
Evlin glared at her and stomped her foot on the roof of the building. The mages a.s.sumed she was trying to intimidate them, but she was actually just using her geo-radar to confirm that Ellie had left the place safe and sound.
"This is your last warning... I'm in a bad mood right now... Mess with me, and I won't hold back..." Evlin declared.
Leone glared back at her and simply gave an order for her troops, "Fire again!"
A second wave of fireb.a.l.l.s was released. This time Evlin simply flapped her wings and rose towards the sky to dodge it. She didn't want to fight in the middle of the city so she tried to move to another location.
"You want me? Try to keep up!" she said, daring them to follow her.
"After her!! Don't let her escape!!"
Evlin began to fly across the city. Now that she didn't need to worry about Chloe, she could fly with all the freedom of the world. The mages started to ignite themselves again with fire magic and started to fly as well by releasing fire from their boots, very similar to how Evlin would when using raw magic.
An aerial game of chase started to take place with Evlin being followed by the fire mages while dodging their fireb.a.l.l.s. She would occasionally turn around and gesture a gun with her index fingers to point at them and release thin blasts of raw magic to hit them from the sky.
They continued this exchange of shots for a while until three of the fire mages decided to join their fireb.a.l.l.s into a much larger one by attacking at the same time.
Evlin saw the incoming attack and using the power of her geokinesis to gather earth and alchemy to change them into green diamonds, instantly created a s.h.i.+eld of diamonds to successfully block it.
While she did that though, three other mages used this chance to surround her from behind in an attempt to attack the woman from three different positions. Three fireball spells were launched at her. She then looked at the mages that were in front of her and used modeling magic to make her wooden boots proceeded by using the power of raw magic to increase her flying speed.
She quickly moved between the mages in front and made them receive the fire attacks in her place. They tried to block it as well but were not fast enough. The impact made them fall on top of rooftops while being knocked out.
"Three down... Four left..." Evlin said.
She spotted Leona coming right at her spinning her staff charged with fire and ready to smack Evlin. The crossbow mage then pointed her finger guns at Leona's hands and released a small blast of raw magic that made her drop her weapon.
"Ouch!!" Leona said.
Evlin then grabbed Leona's staff that was falling in mid-air and smacked the woman's stomach with the tip that looked like a dragon head.
"Guahhhh!!" The blond woman hugged her belly due to the pain while lowering her head, which allowed Evlin to be in the perfect position to attack from above.
"Strongest form of fire magic my a.s.s..." Evlin said. She created her crossbow again and blasted Leona from the air.
Evlin watched as the woman tried to regain control of herself as she kept falling while grabbing her second staff to use her fire magic again. The other three fire mages were approaching her side and began to glare at Evlin.
They started to cast another wave of spells releasing fire from their staffs in the shape of huge creatures.
One of them made a huge snake made of fire, another a rooster, and the third one a horse, all of them connected to their caster's staffs by a small trail of fire, making them look like giant animal balloons made of flames.
Evlin just looked at the scene and started to whistle, "Ok, I admit that's actually really cool."
The fire rooster dashed towards Evlin, but she simply aimed at it with her crossbow and blasted it away with raw magic. But the moment she did so, the fire snake appeared right below her moving its mouth trying to swallow her.
She quickly increased the output of her rocket-boots and moved out of the way in the last second, but as she did so, the fire horse showed up right in front of her and tried to swallow her as well.
Evlin then covered her whole body with diamonds as if she was inside a sh.e.l.l, and pierced the horse's body. Once she was on the other side, she aimed her crossbow and her boots at the stallion and began to release great levels of raw magic to blast it away.
Once the horse was gone, all that was left was the fire snake.
Evlin prepared herself to shoot at it with her crossbow as well, but Leona showed up right behind her and smacked her with a fist engulfed in flames.
"Aaghhh!!" Evlin screamed after being hit.
The impact made her fly straight into the snake's position. The squamate made of flames revealed its ma.s.sive fangs and prepared itself to tear Evlin apart.
The woman covered in golden fur looked at the ma.s.sive beast and simply began to scream once again.
"ROOOOOAAAARRRR!!!!"
And just like before, the shockwave of her yell made the fire animal be blown away with the wind.
The mages then started to approach Evlin one more time after putting themselves back together and tried to surround her. They all started to cast their spells one by one creating various different creatures again. A dragon, an ox, a tiger, a wolf, a rat, and finally a boar, all made of flames and attached to their staffs by a fire string.
Evlin realized that even she couldn't handle all of that on her own and decided to change her strategy.
She stared down and realized that she finally had reached an open gra.s.sy area where she could fight without damaging the city.
"You guys just look so cool with your pets and all... I want to show my pet as well, I love animals..." She said while increasing the output of energy on her boots and das.h.i.+ng towards the ground.
The mages all started to send their fire creatures after her, all except for Leona who was observing Evlin's movements wondering what her plan was.
The crossbow mage finally landed and began to stare at the collection of members of the zoo set on fire.
"My turn..." she whispered while releasing her earth magic.
The fire mages had a small advantage when the battle was in the sky. Evlin was a very powerful magician, but most of her abilities were ground-based. Her comfort zone was not among the clouds, it was among the land.
The beasts continued to approach but just as they were about to reach Evlin, they were suddenly repelled by a ma.s.sive pair of wings made of diamonds that emerged from the ground and completely covered her.
"You guys should have left when you had the chance..." Evlin said as the rest of her creature started to emerge from the ground beneath her and raised her body.
The mages watched as Evlin was now standing on top of a huge lion-like being with wings coming out of its back and an eagle for a head. Evlin had created a gigantic golem made of diamonds in the shape of a griffin. Its size was as big as Evlin's apartment.
One of the mages that was standing right next to Leona started to whisper, "Are you serious...?"
Evlin crouched on the golem's head and began to whisper, "Sphinx... FETCH!!"
She leaped out of its head as the diamond griffin ascended towards the sky and charged right into the flame beasts one by one making them all dissipate easily slaughtering them all.
The mages tried to fight back with their creatures but the golem's skin was simply too strong for any of them to even leave a scratch.
Once the diamond griffin was done, it aimed at the mages themselves and began to chase after them next.
"All of you!! Activate shared cloak!!" Leona screamed.
Evlin was confused by her command and observed as all the mages aimed their staffs at Leona and began to cover her with fire magic. She was now completely drenched in flames.
Leona them aimed at the diamond golem and released a fire beam from her staff. The beam was much faster than any of the previous attacks and completely pushed the griffin against the ground, making a pile of smoke appear and cloud the air.
Leona then landed on the ground as well and stared right at Evlin.
While being powered up by the six mages she started to cast her own fire beast to fight against Evlin.
"It looks like you are not going to make this any easy for us..." Leona mentioned.
"It's not too late to drop all this... Just go home and tell your boss that I'm not interested..." Evlin said.
Leona finally finished her spell and a huge gorilla made of fire that was four times the size of the previous flame beasts showed up. She looked at Evlin with determination on her eyes, "I'm afraid I can't do that..."
Evlin then activated her earth magic again and made her fallen diamond golem in the shape of a griffin rise once more. She gave Leona her final answer, "Then you better not blame me for what happens next..."
