As soon as she was gone, Nate looked at everyone else with a sly smile on his face. With a mischievous giggle, he said, "Let's play a game!"
"What kind of game?" Ethan wondered.
Nate giggled and said, "We should play a math game. I love math."
Kylie frowned at Nate and said, "That is stupid. If we are going to play a game, we should play Truth or Dare!"
"We could do that," Nate admitted, "but no complaining or reneging if you are asked intimate questions about your life! Everyone should be honest to give their answer,"
Just as they were determining what game to play, Dora returned. Her eyes were red, and everyone could tell that she'd been crying. Out of kindness, though, no one mentioned it. Instead, they invited her to play the game with them. "In the first round," Nate explained as he pulled out a deck of cards, "I will deal these cards out, and whoever gets the first queen will be the loser, and they will have to go to the bar and try to pick up a girl."
"What if one of the women loses," Kylie wondered.
"The same thing," Nate replied. "You will have to go to the bar and try to pick up a woman."
"Sounds fun," Kylie admitted as she thought of her previous experience with women's att.i.tude. "Let's do it."
Nate began to deal out the cards, and for the first three rounds, none of the queens appeared. On the fourth round, though, the Queen was dealt with by Kylie. She stood up quickly and walked to the bar heading straight for a slim large breasted blond. Her hair was pulled into a ponytail. She wore gla.s.ses. Her face looked kind, but her expression suggested that she was lonely.
Kylie lightly touched the girl's arm, and when she turned, Kylie pointed to her table and said, "Excuse me. I hope that this doesn't sound creepy or anything, but I have been sitting there, and ever since you sat down, I haven't been able to keep my eyes off you. My name is Kylie, and I wonder if you might consider being my date for the evening?"
The girl blushed and said, "My name is Bethany, and I would be honored to be your date for the evening."
Kylie had planned to take her straight to her seat and invite her to join their game, but the thought of how Ethan might react convinced her that it might not go over very well. In truth, she hadn't realized how easy it would be to pick a girl up, so she hadn't really considered how she would proceed if she was successful.
Kylie took a seat beside Bethany and ordered them both a drink.
Ethan frowned as he watched Kylie making time with the woman at the bar. Without really thinking, he walked up to the bar, took a seat about a meter from where Bethany and Kylie were sitting, and ordered a shot of fireball whiskey.
Now that he was closer to the ladies, he realized that he recognized the blond. She was a famous French medical scientist. Her name was Bethany. It was pretty funny when he thought about how small the world sometimes seemed. He downed the shot, turned, and called the blond out by name.
Once he'd gotten her attention, he said, "Bethany, this is such a coincidence – how do you know my friend, Kylie?"
"It is quite the coincidence," Bethany gushed. "I just met her. I would like to catch up with you, but I am not really available. I hope you aren't offended, but I would like to spend some time with Kylie. As a lesbian, it isn't often that I am approached by women, and when it does happen, more often than not, they are the butch dike type."
"I understand completely," Ethan replied, "but maybe as a compromise, we could all go upstairs and check out the Karaoke bar."
Bethany thought about it for a minute and said, "I have to admit that I love Karaoke. What do you think, Kylie?"
Kylie nodded and said, "It sounds good to me."
Everyone went upstairs, and the hours pa.s.sed quickly, and before they knew it, almost all of them were completely wasted. At one point, Ethan looked behind him and saw Kylie and Bethany kissing. Kylie had her hand on Bethany's breast, and he had no idea what to do. He was angry and surprised. He hadn't known that Kylie was bi-s.e.xual, or even bi-curious if that was what this was. Apart from him, he wanted to grab Kylie and slap the s.h.i.+t out of her. Another part of him wanted to bring them both home so that he could be a fly on the wall while they f.u.c.ked each other.
Eventually, neither option was possible. Both girls were completely drunk. Ethan called a taxi for Bethany, helped her get into it, and then he went back for Kylie. When he got back to Kylie, she was fast asleep on the floor. Gently, he picked her up and carried her to his car.
Ethan had no idea that, while still sober, Kylie and Bethany had exchanged numbers.
Once Kylie was strapped in, and the door was closed, he turned around and found him face to face with Dora. Dora was completely drunk, and all of her inhibitions were gone. She looked Ethan right in the face and said, "I love you. I always have." And then she leaned forward and kissed him on the mouth.
Ethan pushed her away and said, "I've always thought of you as a friend and nothing more. Please respect that and never do what you just did again.
"I'm sorry," Dora stammered as she stepped backward. "I am so embarra.s.sed. Please don't tell anyone about what happened."
Ethan nodded and said, "This never happened, now go home and get to bed. And drink plenty of water so that you don't have a headache in the morning."
