"Then why did you save me when you wanted me dead?"
The question échoed in head as I stared into the dark abyss in front of me. But suddenly she broke her gaze.
I take one more glance at her as I longed for her to look at me. To stare at me with curiosity. She was wearing a black dress that fitted her shape so well it must have been specially made for just her. I was tight around her body and I couldn't help but stare.
She would probably even look good if she was wearing dirty sack, I thought to myself.
"What are staring at? she whispered as a blush rushed to her cheeks.
"Nothing," I mumbled. She smirked obviously not believing what I said. I felt hot under her gaze and it took all my might to stop me from blus.h.i.+ng in embarra.s.sment.
"What are smirking at?"
"What, nothing," she mimicked.
"How dare-"
"Look out!" She screamed, pulling out her lint sword before rus.h.i.+ng towards that cool old lady from the day before. I rushed after her before I realised what I was doing and cautioned myself and watched instead.
They were so similar. They looked the same and fought with the same techniques. It was like they were thinking the same thing all the time.
Maybe I wrong about her being her grandmother maybe she's her mother, but she looks a bit too old to be her mum. And didn't dad say we killed her parents, however he also thought he killed her, maybe he killed someone else and thought it was her mum.
She fell gracefully and I was broken from my thoughts. I looked up to see her and her companion on the floor and a punk pointing a gun at them.
"Put that gun down, now!"
"Master Nyx, what do you mean, they are our prey, we need to kill them?"
"I said put it down."
"Oh I get it, you want to kill them yourself so your father will finally realise you are not worthless and treat you like the human being you are, fine by me, I never agreed with how he treats you anyway."
Oh, he didn't just say that. In front of her. My face flushed.
"You just crossed a line punk," I whispered shooting him down.
"We need to get moving fast."
"We?"
"Well you see b.u.t.terfly, after having to save you twice, I am not letting you out of my sight."
"Aren't you the son of-" her mother/ grandmother, I haven't really decided yet, stated.
"What, are you saying I can't save you two because my dad wants you dead?"
"No, but why?"
"I asked him the same question."
"Look, I am not my dad and if it makes you any better I wasn't saving you, I was saving her."
"But isn't she what this is all about?"
"Yeah but... Can you please tell your mum or grandma, whatever she is, to stop asking questions?"
"Grandma, and don't you dare be rude to her." she snapped, rage clear in her voice.
"Ok, whatever, now can we please get moving before anyone sees us and tells my dad. "
"Come on grandma, don't worry he can be really sweet when you get past the hundred layers of annoyingness," she added causing me my face flush once more.
"Did you just call me sweet? I am not sweet. " I declared firmly.
"No, I said you can be sweet after you get past the layers of annoyingness."
"Same thing."
Minutes of silence trickled by as we sneaked through the woods. My heart raced as each second pa.s.sed by.
"Your gran is really cool for an old lady, she just asks too much questions." I broke eery silence that hung upon us like a dark cloud.
"Oh thanks dear."
Dear, no one has ever called me that before.
"You are welcome, erm, I don't really know what to call you."
"Oh just call me gran or grandma, I've never been one for fancy t.i.tles" she said smiling.
She really is lovely lady. Are all grandmothers like this?
"Wow, I've never really had a grandmother before but sure as long as she is ok with it, are you okay with that?" I asked directing the question to her granddaughter.
"How does your dad treat you?"
Well that was out of the blue.
"What?"
"The guy from earlier said something about how your dad treats you, I was curious, how does he treat you?"
"Will the two of you stop questions?"
"What, I was just curious?"
"I don't think he wants to talk about it, dear."
"Listen to your grandma, she is very wise. One more word about it and I'll shoot your brain," I threatened pointing my lint gun towards her.
"Son, good job you've already got the girl, you always seem to be a step ahead of them, I should have let you join us a long time ago."
"Dad, what are you doing here?"
"What do you mean, I'm here to watch you kill her of course."
"Not if we can help it," suggested a guy coming out of nowhere with a lady, pointing his gun at me ready to pull the trigger.
I fell seconds later after I saw the trigger pulled however to my surprise I was absolutely fine.
"Yna what the heck are you doing-"
So that's her name.
"I'm sorry uncle, but he doesn't deserve to die, well not yet. He's not one of them. Well, he is but he's not."
"You're right, my son doesn't deserve to die, you do and he is one of us."
"She doesn't deserve to die either," I heard myself say out of the blue as all eyes landed on me.
"What did you just say?"
"I said she doesn't deserve to die, she is innocent dad, she did nothing wrong and we both know who the villain is between everyone standing here. You. And I am tired of the way you treat me. Today, she made me realise, I don't want to end up like you. I don't want to spend my life destroying others. I want to be happy."
I am so doomed.
"What are you doing son, this is not the plan, the plan is to-"
"I know what the plan is, I also know this is the plan I am going with, I done being a hybrid, I want to have a normal life and most importantly I want to be able love people without feeling like I am committing a great sin."
'I know what this is about, you've fallen for her haven't you, how dare you son. I spent my life trying to make sure you are safe from this monsters and how do you repay me, you go and fall in love with the person I have been trying to save you from."
"I am safe, they are not monsters, dad. It's you. Can't you see what this is doing to you? To us."
"They are, they killed your mum. She was sweet and innocent but they ruined her. They turned her into something else. All because of them I am a widower, and you are motherless. They turned me into this, do you think I like being like this. I don't but I have to, to make sure you are safe, so you don't end up with the same fateful end your mum ended up with."
Wow I never knew he had emotions. He is actually hurt.
"That was years ago. Maybe, you need to learn to move on."
"Move on, you think its easy to just move on after you lost someone you love, was it that easy for her to move on after she lost her daughter?" My dad said pointing at her aunt.
"No."
"Exactly. Son, come to me, join me to avenge your mum's death."
"No."
"What, how dare you? I am embarra.s.sed to call you my child. A child of mine won't fall in love with -"
"I am not in love dad, I just want to do the right thing. Thinking I'm in love just because I decided to do the right thing is stereotyping."
"What I am doing is the right thing."
"No it's not, dad. This is."
"Fine, I disown you as a son, if things don't go right don't come running back to me because I won't help you-"
"Trust me, I won't come running back."
"I am going to get my revenge, first you kill my wife, then you steal my son-"
"I didn't steal your son, he made his decision on his own."
"Fine, I will just kill you both. " my dad commented and lunged at her. My feet moved before I could think but she appeared to be quicker than I was as my dad was sent flying into a large tree far behind along with the other man. I watched them try to move only to be pushed back by a ferocious wind.
"Run, grandma, Luisa come on. The wind won't hold them for long."
