I rolled my eyes. So nice of him to even bother attending his only son's wedding. "You can go, Dad,"
From where I stood, I could see him clearly, and right now his fists were clenched. It gave me utter satisfaction. "Zayn, get down here. I still can't believe you married Leia. We have some important things to discuss, you get it? After this . . . this is over, you and me, we have a lot to talk about." "Hmm," I said, distracted because Leia had now come over to the women's side, Abdar Rahman in her Mum's arms. I guess I should call her the adoptive mom now since the other one was here too. G.o.d knew I didn't have enough patience for her right now. Dad was right, though. I did need to get down there, no matter my feelings. Let's get this s.h.i.+t done and over with. Yeah. I was going to curse again. Try and stop me. As soon as I was downstairs, the crowd gathered in on me, invading my personal s.p.a.ce in hopes of congratulating me for this tremendously happy occasion. I was never one to be fake but when you're the boss, you have to ensure you're good to your employees. Another thing my dad never taught me. Thanks, dad. Soon after the whole annoying congratulating moment, I was forced to go over to the women's side. You know, so I could get pictures taken with Leia and all. And everyone knew how well I took to orders. Perhaps the only reason I was still here was Abdar Rahman. Sorrow engrained deep inside my heart again. I wanted him to have a happy household to grow in. Where his parents were head-over-heels in love with each other and spoiled him to no end. It seemed like all my hopes were dashed. Something similar to guilt lined Leia's face as soon as she saw me. It seemed like all the breath had been sucked out of my body. I was once again thunderstruck by how stunning she looked. It wasn't like I could see her hair—just the tiniest bit at the front where it was parted in the middle. But her red scarf was see-through enough to get a good look at her thick, luscious brown hair tied up into a bun. I shook myself out of these thoughts. I was supposed to hate her; not be entranced by how pretty she was. No, not pretty. Beautiful. Breathtakingly so. Sigh. I was glad I couldn't see her mum anywhere beside her cause that would've been a little too much for one day. When I got near, I stopped to grab handfuls of Abdar Rahman's cheeks and smacked a sloppy kiss. He looked like . . . a chubby Prince Charming with the suit and tie. As my eyes roved down, I had to let out a strangled laugh because he'd kicked off one boot and was in the process of crying out of the other one. I saved him the struggle and handed over the shoe to Leia's adoptive mom. Abdar Rahman seriously needed a nanny. There was an awkward silence where I a.s.sume everyone was waiting for me to go up to the stage and get pictures snapped. Letting out a ragged breath, I walked up, making sure I kept my eyes anywhere but on Leia. Hoor was our photographer and she grinned at us, getting her camera all prepped up for a long and hard photoshoot. I stepped close to Leia but ensured there was some distance between us. "Closer, Zayn!" Hoor jumped on her toes, scowling. "Come on, you guys! You're married." As if I needed a reminder. Leia grabbed my upper arm, snapping me out of whatever world I'd gotten lost in. I glared at that hand that was touching me. The henncoated hand, with slim fingers and crimson nails. It was a kick to the gut again. This close, I could smell her perfume too. G.o.d, it was the first time she'd worn perfume in front of me. I could see why. It was literally making me weak. The soft lavender mixed with something that smelled intriguingly like cardamom was all I'd be smelling for a long time, it seemed. I flinched back when her arms touched mine, pulling away from her grasp. "You're breaking my heart," her voice was as low as a whisper, so much so that I had to wonder if I imagined her words. But when my eyes met hers, they were full of tears and I honestly couldn't breathe now. I was breaking her heart? She'd already crushed mine under her heels.
