After dicing the preserved egg and marinating the pork, Jiang Feng began to cook the congee and waited outside the kitchen.
He took his phone out and realized he missed a lot of messages from w.a.n.g Hao.
Hao'zi: Feng, which b.u.t.ton is the cook b.u.t.ton on the rice cooker?
Hao'zi: How much water should I add?
Hao'zi: And what pressure should I set?
Hao'zi: Bro! Help save this desperate kid!
"…"
In the Jiang family, anyone heavier than 75kg would not be treated as a kid anymore.
After sending w.a.n.g Hao messages on how to cook the rice, Jiang Feng went through his social media. In just a few seconds, he got his reply.
Hao'zi: Bro, it's too late…
Hao'zi: I beg you! Please come back! I miss your Ca.s.serole Rice with Pork Chops!
"…"
Get lost!
Jiang Feng scolded in his head and took a photo of the congee that was still cooking. He attached the picture and sent it to his friend.
Jiang Feng then put his phone down and stirred the congee.
After stirring for more than 10 minutes, he checked the time, and it was still 4.40 pm. Since it was a little early for dinner, Jiang Feng turned the flame off and left the congee in the pot to stay warm.
He rechecked his phone. As he'd expected, he got a few crying messages from w.a.n.g Hao.
Jiang Feng thought of the Main Quest and decided to call w.a.n.g Hao. Other than asking his friend how he was doing, Jiang Feng wanted w.a.n.g Hao to help advertise his family's new restaurant.
Even though w.a.n.g Hao did not lose his weight after the breakup, he succeeded in his business idea. He opened a small store in their dormitory, and business was great. Almost half of the room leaders in the male dorm were in constant contact with him.
"h.e.l.lo," Jiang Feng greeted as the call was picked up seconds after it rang.
"Bro! What kind of friend are you? How dare you cook your own food and leave your best mate to die here?" w.a.n.g Hao scolded.
"… You do know our campus has a canteen, right?"
"The foods there are always the same! And what's worse is that they all taste like pig feed! All of the stores behind our school are closed because of the holiday too!"
Since the temperature never got lower than 37°C for the summer. There was no way anyone would open up their store for a handful of students left on the campus.
"And you're cooking rice because of that?" Jiang Feng asked.
"Of course! White rice with Spicy Gluten is the best combination during summertime!" w.a.n.g Hao sighed. "So, why are you calling me? Don't tell me you're going to brag about all the good food you're eating at home."
"No, I have something serious to talk with you. Do you know about the new restaurant that's still being renovated behind our campus?"
"Yeah. News sure travels fast. You'll definitely s.h.i.+t yourself when you see how big that restaurant is. They even have a second floor," w.a.n.g Hao exclaimed. "I always see a few huge dudes managing the renovation there. Who do you think the owner is? I bet he's in some security business too."
"… That's my family's new shop…"
After saying that, Jiang Feng quickly moved his phone away from his ear. As expected, w.a.n.g Hao's roar came from the other side of the phone.
"Holy mother! Bro, I never knew your family was rich!"
"More like poor! My father took a loan for the restaurant, and we're now in debt," Jiang Feng laughed. "You better help me advertise the restaurant, or you'll see me begging on the street in the future."
"No problem! But I do have to ask, is the food good? This is my first time advertising, and I have to take the risk of losing my customers if it goes bad."
"Oh, please. Your customers are just some of the brothers in the dorm," Jiang Feng laughed. "What do you think of the foods I've made?"
"The best in the dorm," w.a.n.g Hao praised.
"Well, my dad would say they're pig foods."
Hearing that excited w.a.n.g Hao. He still remembered the time when Jiang Feng made the Ca.s.serole Rice. The aroma alone attracted the whole dorm to their room.
"Leave it to me! I'm going to advertise the restaurant for a whole year," w.a.n.g Hao promised. "So, I do get three free meals a day, right?"
"Something like that," Jiang Feng laughed and warned. "But you better watch your weight. You're pus.h.i.+ng the 100kg mark."
"If it were that easy."
Of course it is.
Jiang Feng thought as most of his relatives weighed more than that.
After chatting with w.a.n.g Hao a little longer, Jiang Feng hung up the call.
He checked the time, and it was 5.15 pm. Just in time for dinner.
He scooped out a bowl of hot congee and knocked on Chen Xiuxiu's door.
[A bowl of Minced Pork Congee with Preserved Egg with too many ingredients]
Even though Jiang Feng had put too many ingredients into the congee, he tasted it and found it edible.
Jiang Feng was surprised when Chen Duxiu opened the door.
"Uncle Chen! I cooked some congee for Xiuxiu," Jiang Feng said.
"Congee?" Chen Duxiu expressed his surprise.
"She got sick this morning. Doctor Chen told her to eat more," Jiang Feng explained.
"I see," Chen Duxiu sighed. "Thank you."
"No worries."
Chen Xiuxiu was sitting on the couch watching a drama. She had a gla.s.s of water in front of her. When she saw Jiang Feng came in with a bowl of congee, she got up to fetch a gla.s.s of water for him too.
"Minced Prok Congee?" Chen Xiuxiu asked after sniffing.
Jiang Feng nodded.
"But… I don't eat meat…"
"You little! Don't be so picky when someone made some food for you," Chen Duxiu scolded.
"It's fine. I took out the pork and egg for you," Jiang Feng smiled and turned to Chen Duxiu. "Uncle Chen, do you want to have some over at my place? I can cook something else to eat with the congee."
"But…" Chen Duxiu sounded like he was hesitating, but he was intrigued by it.
"It's okay. You've never tried my cooking anyway."
"You're right. When your grandfather was still working at the restaurant, we could always smell the aroma coming from your place," Chen Duxiu laughed. "I got close to your father so that I could get to eat some of his food! Your father's food is still far from your grandfather's though."
Chen Duxiu was reminiscing of the past while walking to Jiang Feng's home.
Jiang Weiguo's skill was acknowledged by everyone Jiang Feng knew. Whenever Jiang Weiguo would whip up a table of food during the Lunar New Year, his family would have a feast like it was a festival. But then again, the Lunar New Year was a festival too.
Undeniably, Jiang Weiguo's foods remained the best in the Jiang family.
Just as Jiang Feng served two bowls of congee, he could hear the system once again.
"Ding! Gained 9 experience points."
"Ding! Gained12 experience points."
"Ding! Gained 12 experience points."
…
It seemed like Chen Xiuxiu was happy with her food.
"I'm going to cook something to serve with the congee," Jiang Feng said and went to the kitchen happily.
"Ding! Gained 2 experience points."
Jiang Feng turned and saw Chen Duxiu just ate a mouthful of the congee.
Stingy! Jiang Feng scolded silently as he clicked his tongue.
