Lin Wu slowly opened his eyes. He frowned as he stared at the light s.h.i.+ning in from the gap through the window curtains. He couldn't help but sit up with some effort.
The feeling of sleeping for a night on the sofa wasn't good at all.
He took up his phone and glanced at the time. It was already 8 a.m.
Lin Wu stood up. He stretched for a bit, moving his sore muscles and bones. Only then did he turn his head and glance at the only bed in the room.
Li Luyao was still asleep. Curling up on the bed, she had a very peaceful sleeping face underneath her disheveled hair.
Lin Wu surveyed her for a while, but he didn't wake her up. He turned his neck to the left and right, causing cracking sounds to ring out. After that, he turned and walked into the bathroom.
After he performed his morning ablutions and walked out of the bathroom, Li Luyao also woke up. She was currently seated on the bed, rubbing her eyes.
"Why do you have dark circles?" Lin Wu glanced at her.
Li Luyao covered her mouth and yawned a few times before speaking, "I didn't have a good sleep last night."
Lin Wu involuntarily laughed. "You had a nightmare? Or were you frightened by a ghost? Isn't your guts a little too lacking?"
Last night, he had chatted with a ghost for quite sometime before he slept. And he had a pretty good sleep too.
Li Luyao quietly looked at him. "I didn't have a nightmare...but because you are in the room, I still feel apprehensive. So, I slept pretty late."
"Hehe, I'm also afraid that you might a.s.sault me in the middle of the night." Lin Wu rolled his eyes at her.
Li Luyao didn't reply to that. She stretched her hands out to smoothen her hair. After that, she got down from the bed. Just when she was preparing to head to the bathroom, she suddenly turned to Lin Wu and asked with hesitation, "Are you hungry?"
Lin Wu sat on the sofa and was playing with his phone. He didn't even lift his head up and replied, "Still okay, I'll wait for you to be done before we go down and eat breakfast together."
Li Luyao hurriedly spoke, "I'm currently on a diet, and I don't eat breakfast. You can go and eat alone. In addition, I'm not hung..."
Before she said the word 'hungry', a slight rumbling sound reverberated throughout the room.
"..."
Li Luyao blushed. She couldn't help but hide her face due to her embarra.s.sment, wanting nothing more than to find a hole right now to hide inside it.
Evidently, her stomach was very unsatisfied with her reply and chose to protest.
Lin Wu smiled. "Fiancee, you are already pretty slim. If you still go on a diet, your b.r.e.a.s.t.s would be reduced in size to nothingness."
"Stop calling blindly...we have not registered yet."
Li Luyao's face turned even redder when she heard him calling her 'fiancee'. She couldn't help but grit her teeth. She also didn't wish to speak vaguely without getting to the point. Hence, she drew in a deep breath and directly spoke, "I'm going to take a shower. Go out and wait for me, alright?"
"Go ahead then, I won't be disturbing you in any case." Lin Wu's smile became even deeper.
Li Luyao felt a little faint. She could only plead softly, "Lin Wu, I'm really not used to this...can you give me some time to adjust myself? Can you please go out first?"
Lin Wu also didn't continue to tease her. He nodded and laughed. "Shower quickly then. After you are done, come to my room to look for me."
"Alright." Li Luyao finally heaved a sigh of relief.
Only after Lin Wu closed the door and returned to his room did her expression suddenly change. She then recalled, "His room...wasn't there a ghost inside?"
…
…
After returning to the room next door, there was no change to the room even after a night had pa.s.sed. His laptop was still quietly placed on the computer desk; the laptop screen maintained the blacked-out state.
Lin Wu walked quietly toward the desk. He glanced at his laptop but felt a little afraid to touch it.
From what the ghost 'I have returned' said, it seemed that she had no way to stretch her head out when conversing with him because the phone's screen was too small.
But a laptop's screen wasn't small at all. Would she suddenly climb out from there?
Although that ghost reader didn't seem to have any intentions to harm him, she was ultimately still a ghost. If Lin Wu said that he was completely unafraid at all, it would be a lie.
Who knew what personality that reader would have? What if one day she suddenly felt that what he wrote wasn't nice to read? Would she suddenly come out from his laptop's screen to kill him?
"Mn…"
Lin Wu hesitated for a while. He didn't dare to move his mouse cursor to shut the laptop down. He decided to directly close the laptop and pluck out the power source. That should be safer.
And in the future, he would just write his novel using his mobile phone. By doing so, the ghost could at most stretch her hand out from the screen, but she wouldn't be able to come out in full to scare him.
Lin Wu didn't even dare to breathe too loudly for fear of startling that ghost reader. He lightly pressed the laptop screen down, and slowly closed it.
"Creak…"
This laptop's axis was a little rusty. When the screen was being pressed down, a light commotion was created.
Lin Wu's heart pounded rapidly.
However, at the instant before the laptop was closed, Lin Wu felt that he could no longer press it down. There seemed to be something stuck between it.
Just when suspicions filled his heart, he saw five pale-white fingers stretching out from the gap between the laptop's screen and keyboard!
The slightly purple fingernails were securely holding the edge of the screen by force.
She, or maybe it was better to refer to the ghost as 'it', was coming out!
Lin Wu involuntarily felt his expression changing. His heart pounded madly, and he quickly did his best to press down on the laptop's screen. He was very afraid that it would climb out from within.
However, the ghost's strength was shockingly great. No matter how he tried to press down, the laptop's screen remained unmoving.
There was just a little gap before the laptop would fold shut, but this tiny gap was like so close yet worlds apart, immeasurably far.
"Sir author, good morning."
Just like someone meeting a neighbor early in the morning or a good friend giving a greeting, through the gap between the laptop's screen and keyboard, a hoa.r.s.e and slightly m.u.f.fled female voice drifted out.
Lin Wu involuntarily felt his heart pounding.
(She's speaking?)
Could it be that her mouth or a part of her face would stretch out from the screen?
Thinking that a face belonging to a ghost was about to float up from the laptop, he felt his scalp turning somewhat numb.
Lin Wu sucked in a deep breath and asked, "Are you looking for me for something?"
He then heard her voice from the gap again. "Nothing much, I only want to wish sir author a good morning and take the chance to remind sir author to update the novel. I've almost finished reading your book for the 482nd time."
Lin Wu hurriedly replied, "I have something on in the morning. After I finished writing, I'll update it during the afternoon"
She was like a little loyal fan. She immediately replied, "Sure. I won't disturb sir author then. Sir author, please work hard in updating your novel!"
Lin Wu heaved a sigh of relief. Just when he was about to pluck the power source, he suddenly felt the pressure from below becoming irresistible. The gap between his laptop's screen and keyboard slowly began to widen...
After that, a dainty pale-white hand stretched out from within the gap.
Lin Wu's pupils abruptly narrowed. He subconsciously let go of his hold on the laptop and hurriedly took a step back.
However, the gap didn't continue widening. She merely stretched out her pale-white hand from the screen and half of her arm.
Under Lin Wu's gaze, the elegant and pretty yet extremely horrifying hand slowly clenched into a fist before sticking out its little pinkie.
It seemed to be making the motion for...a pinky swear.
He then heard her hoa.r.s.e but sweet-sounding voice saying, "Sir author, I'm suddenly afraid that you might castrate your novel. Why don't we make a pinky swear? After we have done it, you won't lie to me then."
Pinky swear?
Lin Wu watched her hand attentively. After hesitating for a while, he drew in another deep breath and walked over, stretching out his pinkie and locking pinkies with her.
Her skin was completely pale and had no warmth to it.
After that, their pinkies that were locked lightly began to sway.
"You mustn't break your pinky promise, or you will hang for a hundred years…"
