This fact was very important for the future, as Caesar could potentially rally these heretics against the church. Although he wouldn't pick a fight any time soon, he knew that battle with the fleeting clouds continent was inevitable. He belonged to a race highly sought after by humans and he had already killed a few members of their faction.
Thinking to here, Caesar pushed open the thick, wooden doors and left the merchants guild, entering into the crowded streets. His current appearance wasn't very eye-catching and he quickly headed west, towards the slums.
He pa.s.sed by the rowdy merchants, hagglers, and even some of the slave traders before finally arriving at the western side of Rahvin kingdom. The buildings on the side of the roads drastically took a turn for the worse and a foul stench wafted about.
The beggars looked at Caesar pleadingly, however, he didn't pay them much heed and soon arrived at the location where the fox-kin were temporarily camping at. A large number of the fox-kin were either eating, playing simple games, or sleeping. The residents of the slums could only look at them enviously as their stomachs roared in protest.
As Caesar approached, their image became more and more vivid within his line of sight and a strange figure could be seen speaking with Ebisu whilst Joe was giggling from the side. He was that same blonde youth that Caesar had observed on the streets earlier, he was the one who played the lute.
His wavy blonde hair fluttered in the wind as he flashed a few smiles at the nearby fox-kin women, causing them to blush ever so slightly. Ebisu, on the other hand, scrutinized the blonde youth with disdain apparent in his eyes.
Seeing this, Caesar didn't hesitate to step in and grab the attention of all those present. Although their numbers dwindled during the war, there was still a large number of gnomes, kobolds, and even furbolgs forced to hide within the tents.
The fox-kin were easily hidden, however, the other races were much more exotic. As such, Caesar had secretly ordered them to stay within the tents. However, he used a burst of mana to grab the attention of those within the tents as well.
Caesar clutched a few of his fluttering strands of hair and slicked them back as he observed the blonde man. "You don't appear to be a resident of the slums," Caesar stated, "your attire fits those of the middle-cla.s.s and judging by the quality of your lute, you're quite well off when it comes to money."
In response, the blonde man bowed deeply, "It is a pleasure to meet you, your highness," he greeted, "This humble servant was merely partaking in a casual a stroll within the slums, you see, I must grace all humans with my appearance, whether they are poor or rich." he replied with a sly smile playing on his lips.
Caesar's brows creased as he rolled his eyes, "I don't have time to banter with clowns," he replied, "now if you'll excuse us, I have some business I need to complete. That is, without your presence."
The blonde man merely smiled widely at Caesar's words, "Very well, my name is Aldo, if we are ever fated to meet again, your highness" Aldo replied and with a flip of his jacket, he briskly walked away with steady steps.
After walking a few paces, Aldo turned around and placed a finger on his chin, "Ah yes, I was wondering why an esteemed crown prince such as yourself would even bother visiting the slums. Is there perhaps something special with these people?" he asked sarcastically whilst glancing at Ebisu.
"How convenient, I was wondering about something myself," Caesar said, "why do you think thou have the luxury of questioning and spying on an esteemed crown prince such as myself, do you not fear the consequences?" he asked whilst squinting his eyes, an unfathomable amount of killing intent escaping from his body.
Aldo's eyes dilated as a few droplets of sweat streaked across his face. The cold atmosphere caused s.h.i.+vers to run down Aldo's spine as he gulped down a mouthful of saliva. "M-my deepest of apologies your highness, a travelers curiosity is very arduous to sate." Also pleaded whilst put both of his hands in the air.
With a click of Caesar's tongue, he removed his deathly aura. He glanced at Aldo one last time before turning around walking back toward Ebisu, "Don't let your curiosity be the death of you, it would be a shame." he said wistfully as he reached Ebisu.
As he spoke to here, Aldo quickly escaped from the slums with his tail tucked between his legs. He had never expected to be threatened and his calm facade was easily shattered. Not many men were capable of maintaining a smile in such a situation.
After he left slums, Caesar couldn't help but bellow out in laughter, both Ebisu and Joe joining him. "I love humiliating those with a chip on their shoulder," Caesar said, "their reactions are always the most comical when they realize that I can destroy them in many ways."
As his words ended, Ebisu gravely nodded his head, "I was about to send him away before you arrived. Anyhow, what are you here for? Are the houses complete?" he asked with a tilt of his head. He was unashamed of asking Caesar for favors, as he felt as though they could be considered friends of some sort.
Unfortunately, Caesar shook his head, "Tragically, It will take a bit longer before we are capable of ama.s.sing houses. However, I have a few jobs that the stronger fox-kin can partake in for money, to which you can buy whatever you want with" Caesar replied with a smile, knowing that the warriors would be interested.
And as he expected, he could visibly see many of the male fox-kin perk up their ears and listen closely. "Within Rahvin kingdom, a strong military exists" Caesar explained, "All knights are paid a monthly salary based on their ranks, as such, the stronger soldiers are capable of receiving a large sum of funds."
As he spoke to here, Ebisu excitedly shook Caesar's shoulders, "how do we enlist?" he asked, to which Caesar subtly brushed Ebisu's arms off of his shoulders and dusted his white tunic off. "You must swear allegiance to this kingdom and abide by the knighthood obligations" Caesar paused for a moment as he scanned the fox-kin.
"Tomorrow at noon, I'll bring a few volunteers with me to the training grounds. Perhaps, we can "baptize" you with our training and give you a taste of what you're signing up for," Caesar said slyly as he quickly escaped from the slums, avoiding their handful of questions.
As he traveled from rooftop to rooftop, he couldn't help but stroke his clean-shaven chin. "need to conduct a few meetings… after all, my employees have yet to even see their boss yet" he whispered jestfully as a chuckle escaped from his lips.
