"The number you have dialed is either unattended or out of coverage area." It's been an hour since Sam tried to contact her boss Matthew Sung.
She felt like her intestines were going to snap. There were no food chains present in the area because she was in the middle of a residential subdivision.
"Darn it Matthew Sung. Why do you always make me go to places without food stores." She kept walking until she saw a number of people falling in line.
She stood at the end of the line trying to blend in. It was indeed a feeding program for indigenous people. Judging from her clothes people were starting to get confused. She looked like an elegant secretary lost in a small village.
"What's that woman doing here?"
"She doesn't look indigenous!"
"Maybe some rich people gave it to her because she was so pitiful?"
"Yeah, but look at her now so flashy and ent.i.tled."
Sam couldn't help but laugh a little. It might sound scheming but she might tell the them that what they're saying is true. She couldn't help but play the part of a lowly girl who just got blessed from the heavens.
Playing frail wasn't hard because she's already hungry from circling the place and getting lost in the process. She managed to cough a little as it was almost her que.
The servers were quite skeptical of her but still gave her some congee. She sat at the sidewalk and ate the food within seconds.
The elders were laughing at her, thinking of how poor her life must be to eat congee like a starving animal.
"Yeah.. well maybe?" she thought to herself. Her boss wasn't going to pay her if can't secure the investment deal.
Over the years, she thought everything was doing fine but bills come flooding in and responsibilities can't just be negated. Life came along that's what it is and guilt was still part of it too. No matter how many times she drunk herself to sleep. Vodka can't make you forget it all.
