"Awake, Levi?" I heard through the darkness. Fear hit me and I stayed still. The footsteps drew near and I looked up at the person who had been keeping me captive for weeks now.
"h.e.l.lo again, glad you could join us," Michael said as he watched me with disgust lacing his features. "Now, tell us where they are or you're going to hurt again."
"I told you," I spat out, blood-laced spit flying to his feet. "I don't know where they are and I don't know how Rose got her memories back-" A kick to the stomach silenced me and I coughed, trying to regain my breath. I felt the blood before I tasted it in my mouth. It was salty and metallic.
"Levi, I'll give you more time alone, then I'll come back with a telepathic. If you won't tell me where they've gone, I'll get it some other way." With that, he stomped away again.
My body started to feel strained and exhausted again, so I allowed myself to slip into an uneasy sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke again to water being poured onto me. The icy feeling jolted me back into my harsh reality. Michael was alone stood above me.
"I'll give you one last chance before I bring in psychological torture. Tell me. Now."
"Burn in h.e.l.l."
He looked stunned, then slowly he started to laugh. I stared blankly at him as he sat on the chair set in front of me. I pushed myself off the floor and attempted to stand, but fell again after my weak legs started to shake beneath me.
"You know, I do know where they are considering Zayn is with them. The second you cooperate with me," he paused to let that sentence sink in. They left without me, taking an imposter with them. "Is the second I allow your precious Rose out of her comatose."
I reached out to hit him, but missed by what seemed to be a mile. He laughed again and it echoed off the stone walls, taunting me.
"Rosalina spent five months in this exact room before her spirit was broken, I wonder how long it would take someone not of my blood to lose themselves under my magic, don't you?" I felt fear inch its way back into my blood. I knew what he had done to Rose. He spent every spare second telling me. He tortured her, ripped her apart in her mind, before he finally was able to reform her the way he wanted her to be.
He stood and grabbed my hair and lifted me slightly off the floor and stared into my soul with his cold sapphire eyes.
"I will be back in a few hours with the telepathic and a tray of food. Be good, I'll feed you. Be bad and, well, that depends on what Sachi decides."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Levi?" I heard call through the darkness of my mind.
"Rose," I called and ran for her. When I finally saw her, my heart dropped. Her eyes were dull and her hair was missing its usual s.h.i.+ne.
"Levi, they aren't letting me wake up," she called. The barrier between us blocked me from getting closer to her. We met at the thin barrier and stood before each other. "What is Michael doing to you?" she asked, fear and anger lacing her eyes.
"Trying to get information outta me," I laughed, trying to make humor in this already difficult situation. "Where are you guys, Rose?"
"I'm not sure," she replied, tears slipping out of her eyes. "I woke up once a few minutes ago, but I couldn't recognize anyone with me nor could I speak and ask. I don't understand what's happening to us anymore."
"It's going to be okay, Rose," I replied and placed my hand on the barrier. It lit up blue under my touch. "I'll figure this out and I'll come save you."
"I'm scared." Those two words brought back memories in me I thought I had pushed down far enough to avoid them.
"It's going to be okay," I repeated that even though I didn't believe myself. I knew the serum they were giving her was eating her away again, but how could I tell her that when she was so broken?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Water bursted me back into my reality again and ripped me away from my dreamscape with Rose.
"Time's up, Levi."
Pain ripped through my brain as Sachi probed in, looking for any sign I knew more than I was admitting. I screamed at the pain. Just as suddenly as it began, it was gone, replaced by warm light in my head.
"Sir, something is blocking me out," Sachi said, her monotone voice making anger consume me.
"What did you learn from as long as you were inside?" I heard, but I couldn't find the strength to move or speak, I just felt sleepy.
"He isn't lying. The twins truly told him nothing and his dreamscapes with Rose haven't given him the answers he was wanting either." I wanted to yell at her. To snap. To do something other than remain weak and powerless.
"Then it seems he has been tortured for little reason then, other than the fact he's about to pa.s.s as my long-lost heir," Michael said into the s.p.a.ce before I went out like a light, unable to fight anymore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Levi," Rose called as my eyes opened to our dreamscape. She was touching my forehead and looked worried. Her eyes were s.h.i.+ning blue this time.
"Rose... did you-"
"Yes. I did. And it hurt."
I felt happiness at the fact she was still on my side, even in this altered form.
"I woke up for a split second and saw Zayn with your face, he was giving me something purple and glowing from a syringe," she said, before stepping back. The barrier slipped back up between us, keeping us from each other's magic that could kill either of us if we could access the other's.
"The group took the wrong me. I'm still in the heaven realm. Michael is still alive."
Rage clouded her face before pain overtook her again.
No matter how many times I saw it happen, it never became easier to me. The pain she felt was the serum taking hold of her consciousness and pulling it farther from the rest of her. It caused nightmares that I had to watch with her that caused us both physical and mental pain.
"We'll get out of this, Rose. I promise." I said before the light brought me back to the land of the living and my mind and memories went blank.
