Chapter 234 Turning the tide
Li Yunhong winked at Chen Qian ceaselessly, reminding her of taking care of Xiangyan. After all, Xiangyan was the key to improve her relations.h.i.+p with Mo Yichen. Obtaining a favorable impression from Xiangyan meant a half of success.
However, since Chen Qian sat down at the table, she had never showed any concern for Xiangyan. Li Yunhong understood that Chen Qian was in a sulk for Xiangyan’s words.
Li Yunhong was a little dissatisfied with Chen Qian’s behavior. She had thought Chen Qian was a sensible girl with good grace. But at that time, Li Yunhong realized that this girl was different from the impression of her before.
Moreover, Mo Xiangyan was her grandson. If Mo Xiangyan didn’t accept Chen Qian, she had to consider more.
Seeing Li Yunhong’s expression, Chen Qian immediately realized that her behavior was a little inappropriate. She smiled at Li Yunhong for apology. Then she took a piece of meat using her chopsticks and put it in Xiangyan’s plate gently, looking like a good wife and a kind mother.
“Xiangyan, eat more meat so that you can get better quickly.”
Her affectedly sweet voice made Mo Yichen almost spew his food. Luckily, he covered his mouth in time, avoiding the embarra.s.sment.
“Aunt Chen, it’s so unhygienic. You’d better pick food up for others with chopsticks that were not used. My dad, my grandma and Aunt Gu all used new chopsticks.”
“Eh, I can’t eat it. It looks disgusting…” Then Xiangyan picked the meat up immediately and threw it on the table. He frowned and looked at the residuals on his plate anxiously. He was struggling: “Should I eat or not eat?”
Finally, Xiangyan couldn’t bear it anymore, so he pushed his plate hard away from him. Then he dropped his chopsticks on the floor and pounded the table, shouting and screaming.
Chen Qian didn’t expect that Xiangyan would be so emotional. She was angry because Xiangyan didn’t appreciate her kindness. She thought Xiangyan was deliberate.
Besides, she remembered clearly that just as she came in, Gu Yan used her chopsticks to pick food up for Xiangyan.
Chen Qian stood still since she didn’t know how to deal with this situation for a short while. She used to dislike others and no one dared to behave impolitely like that in front of her. But at this time, she was irritated by Mo Xiangyan.
“Chen Qian, never mind please. Xiangyan was spoiled and he is scrupulously clean. Furthermore, he left the hospital just a few days ago, so he should keep hygienic. Don’t mind…” Li Yunhong embarra.s.sedly smiled at people around. Then she left her chair to appease Xiangyan’s emotion.
“Xiangyan, your dad will bring a new set of tableware for you. Let’s go on eating, shall we?” Li Yunhong said. Xiangyan turned his head towards Gu Yan and didn’t want to talk to Li Yunhong.
Li Yunhong dragged Xiangyan to let him sit towards her. She said gently: “You’re still a kid so you should be polite. How nice Aunt Chen was to you! When you were ill, she not only took care of you, but also picked food up for you. You’ve gone too far in this way!”
When Li Yunhong patiently pacified Mo Xiangyan, Chen Qian was really grieved. Her deep eyes were fearsome. She was intended to embarra.s.s Gu Yan, but unexpectedly, she was thoroughly discredited by Xiangyan. Chen Qian sat still. She was the person who needed others’ comfort most, so it was impossible for her to comfort Xiangyan.
“Grandma, I want her to apologize to me. You have said that we should admit our mistakes if we do something wrong. Children should be treated equally as adults.” Xiangyan seriously said what Li Yunhong had told him with his big eyes wide open.
It was the first time for Mo Yichen to hear his son talking so much truth, so he was convinced and couldn’t help thumbing up for him. But Mo Yichen was frightened by Li Yunhong’s cold eyes when she suddenly turned around. His smiling face was stiffened slightly, but soon returned to normal.
“Xiangyan, how can you talk to your aunt like that? You should respect your elders. You can’t talk to your elders like that anymore. Do you understand now?” Gu Yan said gently.
She touched Xiangyan’s head and patiently taught him.
“Aunt Gu, I know.” When Gu Yan spoke, Xiangyan was very sensible and obedient to her.
He walked gingerly to the opposite side of Chen Qian and lowered his eyes, as if he had done something wrong. He said with great reluctance: “Aunt Chen, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that. Please forgive me. As a man, I shouldn’t haggle with a woman who is physically weak.”
“Woman?” Chen Qian was shocked. She thought angrily, “What? Who was he talking about? Why was the child so inconsiderate? Am I so old? I’m clearly a pretty girl.”
Chen Qian’s expression was even worse. If there was a crack in the ground, she would not hesitate to get in. She got great humiliation, but no one stood out to help her out of her embarra.s.sment. The others at the table were…
Li Yunhong laughed herself into convulsions, and there was a faint smile on Gu Yan’s face. Mo Yichen even praised Xiangyan. Chen Qian thought they were going too far in bullying her.
She blushed because of anger and even fell into tears, looking aggrieved. It was hard for others who were laughing to accept the situation. They looked at each other in dismay, trying to control their emotions.
“Oh, Chen Qian, please don’t argue with Xiangyan. He is a child. What he said was not intentional. Never mind please. That would be too stingy.” Li Yunhong comforted her.
Chen Qian knew that if she continued to cry at that time, it would be a great shame. She would not only lose face, but also leave a bad impression to Li Yunhong, which meant she was about to be defeated.
She wiped the glistening tears from her cheeks with her sleeve and coughed softly. She forced a smile and cleared her throat. She said in a hoa.r.s.e voice: “Auntie, how could I take what the child said seriously? I laughed so hard that tears came to my eyes.”
Then there was another burst of wild laughter…
Mo Yichen asked the waiter to bring a new set of tableware, and they had a wonderful lunch together. Unexpectedly, Gu Yan and Li Yunhong talked happily. Xiangyan and Mo Yichen smiled again, eating their lunch happily.
Only Chen Qian kept coughing to remind Li Yunhong of their original intention. But Li Yunhong ignored her all the time, making her confused and embarra.s.sed…
