Chapter 319: The Covenant of Darkness Strikes
Cain looked at Lu Xuan, knowing well that Lu Xuan was not joking at all. If he were to die right there and then on that day, that would truly no longer be an empire of vampires in the world.
Despite the Vampiric Empire looking ma.s.sive and fearsome, the one to truly struck fear in the minds of their enemies was still none other than him, the founding ancestor of the vampires.
While the vampire had fallen into quite a decline after both Lilith and Count Dracula perished one after another, the empire still managed to hold its own all thanks to him.
If he were to meet his doom right there and then, there would still be some Celestial Realm elders in the empire left to take charge.
But then again, that would still be pointless given that it was still impossible for them to resist retaliation from secular governments.
He knew all too well about the researches that the secular governments had undertaken throughout the years. Tools and weapons made specifically to take out vampires were churned out one after another.
Despite the empire’s unnerving longevity and frighteningly formidable powers, the vampires were still beings of flesh and blood, instead of true G.o.ds.
As technological advances of the secular government became increasingly prominent, the edge possessed innately by the vampires became increasingly insignificant.
The empire would truly meet its doom in no time without Cain serving as the intimidating factor.
“You indeed are one h.e.l.l of a threat, Lu Xuan.”
Cain continued as he looked at Lu Xuan with cold eyes.
“This proves that luring you out has been a sensible choice.”
Lu Xuan frowned and asked, “You? Luring me out? So, you’re the one that handed the news to the Huaxian government then?”
Cain flashed a grin, baring his very pointy canines and replied, “Indeed. It was I who spread the news, but I totally didn’t expect you to actually come cras.h.i.+ng to the party without any thoughts about it at all. You really are too c.o.c.ksure of yourself. The south pole is ice cold, truly the best place to serve as your grave.”
“I’m going to suck every drop of that blood running through your veins.”
A tinge of yearning was seen in Cain’s eyes when he said that. Lu Xuan’s life force was so br.i.m.m.i.n.g that he was able to resist the extreme cold of the south pole at minus tens of degrees Celsius, through the workings of what made his life force so formidable alone. Lu Xuan was indeed unbelievable resilient.
Cain was even able to smell all that ma.s.sive power harbored within Lu Xuan’s blood. He felt that he would be able to make a breakthrough to an even higher realm, an act that not even the limits of the world would be able to do anything about, if he were to just be able to suck Lu Xuan’s blood.
The way he saw it, it was not blood running in Lu Xuan’s veins, but some kind of elixir.
“That’s not me being overconfident, but you people being just too d.a.m.n weak,” Lu Xuan chuckled and added.
“Well, you’re all here, so why don’t you show yourselves, eh?”
Lu Xuan added further.
Silhouettes then quickly emerged from afar in the blizzard one after another.
All of them were hovering in midair and packing extremely terrifying aura, as if they were G.o.dly beings descending from the heavens.
Every single one of them had powers comparable to that at the peak of Airborne Realm.
One of them was wearing a dark cape and completely shrouded in darkness, emanating dark mist all over them, making it impossible to tell what they looked like.
There was another who looked ma.s.sive—a Caucasian-looking middle-aged man who was over two meters tall.
There was yet another in their midst, who was a pretty woman who looked to be around 30 years of age and possessed a voluptuous figure. However, she wore an extremely sinister look on her face.
“What a lineup indeed!” Lu Xuan quipped as he looked at those people, noting that there was hardly any present-day cultivator who knew of anyone of them.
However, Lu Xuan was different from all the others. His past life experiences told him that the few were all extremely renowned figures at later eras.
All of them belonged to a monstrous organization—the Covenant of Darkness.
That was truly one of the two monsters of cultivation organizations doing whatever they pleased in the western world of cultivators. The Covenant of Darkness was also the only organization in the entire western world of cultivators capable of standing off against the Church.
The Vampiric Empire, despite its ma.s.sive size and power, was but one of the forces serving under the Covenant of Darkness. That fact itself served as a testament to how terrifying the Covenant of Darkness truly was in their heyday.
It was an organization capable of overwhelming the Church for a time after all.
The one who wore a black cape was the leader of the dark spellcasters in the Covenant of Darkness, commonly known simply as the Dark Spellcaster Emperor.
There was no one alive who knew his true name anymore. All simply knew him to be the best dark spellcasters there was for as long as anyone could remember. His power was to such a level that he dared to even fight the present-day pope.
The ma.s.sive middle-aged man was named Ivanov, leader of the werewolves in the covenant, also known as the Wolf King.
The Soviet Union was able to lock horns with the US, which was backed by the Vampiric Empire, all those years ago, because it had the support of the werewolves.
The only female among the three was the legendary Wailing Witch, who was known in the legends to be an extremely powerful Lich King lauded to be undying. Her existence actually predated even Cain, the founding ancestor of the vampires.
However, her renown paled in comparison to that of Cain due to lacking a race of her own, yet she was able to gain a seat on the Covenant of Darkness through her powers alone, which served as the testament to her vast degree of strength.
All four of the greatest in the Covenant of Darkness were gathered right there. There was no doubt that Cain had been making preparations through the time he went about hiding—rallying his allies just so to take on Lu Xuan.
To Lu Xuan’s knowledge, the Covenant of Darkness should have been fragmented in present day. The members of the covenant had been backing different nations since the days the US and the Soviet Union vied for global dominance, with the dark spellcasters and the vampires backing the US, and the werewolves the Soviet Union.
Both parties were at odds with each other since then, and it would hardly be surprising for them to go on all-out fights with each other.
The leaders of both factions would have gone for each other’s throats right away as soon as they met, yet there they were, gathered against their common enemy—Lu Xuan. One could tell that Cain had paid a hefty price just to gather such a force.
Lu Xuan shook his head and said, “Oh Cain, you’ve been preparing for so long and this is all you could come up with? Gosh, you’re really quite a letdown.”
“So, you know of us then, human?”
Ivanov asked with a gruff voice. His eyes were that of wolves instead of that of humans.
He asked in fluent Huaxian instead of Russian, making it obvious that he was toying with Lu Xuan, asking in a rather sarcastic tone.
“Sure I do. Aren’t you all the ones who call the shots in the covenant these days?” Lu Xuan flashed a grin and continued, “I wonder what Cain promised you people that you’re all willing to hand over your heads in a silver platter all the way here.”
“Here to hand our heads?” Ivanov looked at Lu Xuan and flashed a ferocious grin, saying, “I don’t think so.”
Ivanov smirked and continued, “They said that you’re quite a c.o.c.ky one, and I had doubts about that. But from the looks of things now, you really are c.o.c.ky.”
“I’m not being c.o.c.ky, I’m just being confident.” Lu Xuan then added, “You all are indeed very formidable compared to the others, but to me, you all are nothing.”
