Chapter 328: Chaos in the Heavenly Palace
Some on the dark web felt rather impressed.
Times have changed indeed. There has been a time where the Earth was a battlefield that the likes of us could do whatever we please, but now that secular governments have weapons of ma.s.s destruction of such a scale, it feels like the Sword of Damocles is hanging right above our heads.
I never thought that the American government would actually be this decisive. They actually just went and pushed the b.u.t.ton!
Lu Xuan’s powers and status would have made him a G.o.d among mortals in ancient times, so much so that even emperors would have had to bow to him. h.e.l.l, he could have changed the regime all over if he wanted to. Yet in modern times, all of that was nullified by just a single nuclear missile.
Many cultivators felt rather dejected at such a bleak reality.
The world of cultivation at the moment had yet to reach anywhere near its pinnacle. As such, combat capacities that secular governments had access to were still more than enough to pose a great threat to all of them.
A threat so great that it could be lethal.
Whatever one’s opinion of Lu Xuan might be, whether one liked him or otherwise, one had to admit that he was currently one of those at the very top among all cultivators throughout the world, yet a single nuclear missile could have taken him out all the same.
That was quite a wake-up call to many cultivators. While it seemed as though they were able to do as they please and no secular authorities could restrain them, there was nonetheless no doubt that nuclear arms would be sent their way, if they were to really get on the bad side of the big five.
Everyone had to admit before such overwhelming power, that whatever their thoughts about it may be, the world has yet to become one where cultivators would be the ones calling the shots. Secular governments still held enough power to terrorize or even destroy the entire world after all.
The news of Lu Xuan fighting against the Covenant of Darkness began to spread all over the dark web as time pa.s.sed.
Everyone saw just how easily Lu Xuan was able to make short work of four very notorious, top-notch cultivators of old, whom all practically had their own kingdoms.
Now I finally understand why the Americans are so wary of Lu Xuan. If I were to be in their shoes, I’d find it impossible to sleep knowing someone like that is out there.
He’s the Sword of Damocles itself! The very sword hanging above the heads of every single government on the planet! It’s just that the US government was the first to make a move.
Just how far has Lu Xuan’s level got to, eh? Has there ever been any Airborne Realm beings who were as powerful in the past?
It’s quite a pity to have someone like him born in the current era. If it had been in the past, he would have been counted to be among the likes of Zhang Sanfeng, the Bodhidharma, and Lu Dongbin.
Hahahaha, serves him right! That ba**ard is nothing but a menace to the world! Killing him would be doing the world a G.o.d**mn favor!
Some felt that it was a pity to see him suffer such a fate, while some others thought that it was best for him to end up dead. The latter were practically celebrating his supposed death.
Lu Xuan was so unbelievably powerful that all those who had scores to settle with him found it impossible to even begin to take revenge. However, they all saw how he was quickly taken care of when the American government took action, and what happened was the best news there was without a doubt to those people.
The dark web was all raving about his fate for quite some time.
Those of the Heavenly Palace quickly received the news as soon as it spread, and all of them were dumbfounded.
It had not been long when Lu Xuan pulled a recruitment drive for the Heavenly Palace, when the news of him being wiped out by a nuclear missile came. The entire place was in a huge commotion.
It was especially so given that the Heavenly Palace was still a newly established organization. It was quite a wonder if the place could still run, since Lu Xuan—the core figure—was taken care of by the US government.
Everyone from the Heavenly Palace was unsettled.
Many were waiting for those from the Heavenly Palace to make their stance clear, and there were even those waiting for a civil war to break out among themselves, so as to gain something from all that chaos.
However, someone appeared in the base on that day; someone that none had expected to make an appearance.
That someone was none other than Lu Xuan’s mother, Liu Wanrong.
“Greetings, mistress.”
Everyone within the base gathered around, including all 12 military governors. Over 100 Celestial Realm cultivators were seen gathering at a single spot.
Zhang Hongyang and Yang Chengsi were both seen standing behind Liu Wanrong.
Both of them served directly under the Lu Clan, so they were of a totally different status from the rest in the Heavenly Palace.
Ling Fei, who had only made it to Celestial Realm as of late, stood in the midst of the crowd as she watched Liu Wanrong.
She was rather curious as to why Liu Wanrong made an appearance in the Heavenly Palace base at such a time.
Liu Wanrong was dressed in yellow traditional ethnic Han dress and appeared elegant, looking as if she was in her mid-twenties instead of a mother of three children.
She looked at the crowd and said, “I presume that you all know who I am, and I’m here only to make clear of one matter.”
Liu Wanrong paused. Everyone saw how she scanned everyone with a cold, unfeeling gaze.
“The Heavenly Palace is an extraordinary undertaking established by my son, and you all are subordinates fostered by my son. My son has just been bombed by the d.a.m.ned Americans with a nuke and his fate remains unsure, yet I heard that there are some among you who’ve been plotting to seize power, instead of taking revenge for him. I wonder how true is that.”
Liu Wanrong elaborated casually.
Everyone straightened up as soon as they heard what she just said, as all of them knew that someone like that was definitely happening.
It had not been long since news of Lu Xuan being killed by a nuclear missile, when the Heavenly Palace was facing the crisis of splintering.
That was because the Heavenly Palace was a place where cultivators were drafted from a variety of other cultivation forces to begin with. Not only were they fighters from government agencies, there were also many who were drafted from sects and clans that leaned towards the government.
One could say that they were a mixed bunch.
None of them dared to do anything rash or stupid when Lu Xuan was around, due to his powers and prestige. As such, the place looked harmonious.
However, as the news of Lu Xuan being bombed to death spread, some who had their own agenda and ideas felt that they sensed an opportunity of sorts.
It was the time to splinter the Heavenly Palace and seize command of the Heavenly Palace.
“My lady, the Palace Lord is now killed by the Americans with a nuclear missile, and we’re actually hoping to gather everyone’s thoughts and opinions, so as to take revenge against the Americans,” a man of average build said slowly at that moment.
Liu Wanrong remained seated on the Tais.h.i.+ chair and took a look at him, before asking, “So what do you propose then?”
That middle-aged man of average build was elated and replied right away, “Our thoughts are rather simple. The Heavenly Palace could not go on a day without its leader. With the Palace Lord suffering such a misfortune, we shall need to elect a new Palace Lord. Only by doing so would we gain enough power to fight the Americans!”
Liu Wanrong then looked at that man and said, “It would be even better that you become the next Palace Lord, wouldn’t you say?”
That man felt stunned deep down, but nonetheless steeled himself and continued, “While I don’t see myself as being supremely capable, I dare say that I’m nonetheless learned enough to be fully capable of leading the Heavenly Palace, and I’d like to see our Palace Lord’s efforts not go to waste as well. Our enemy is the powerful Americans after all.”
However, a b.l.o.o.d.y hole was quickly seen on top of his head as soon as he finished, before slumping down right away.
