Chapter 45: Stop Bragging, Please
She was filled with intense regret by then. She lamented how bad her judgment had been. He thought that Senior Li had been quite a stunning figure, and Lu Xuan looked very una.s.suming in comparison. His appearance had not suggested otherwise at all.
No one knew before that that Lu Xuan was actually the real deal. There was no surprise why he had never bothered with her sarcastic jabs and ridicule on him before. That was not to say that he was dense or that he was thick-skinned; he simply did not care about the two of them.
Dragons in the sky would not concern themselves with what ants on the ground thought of them, after all.
It was just that. Nothing more, nothing less.
However, it was unknown why Lu Xuan became a guide. It had been a chance of a lifetime for them, and it was quite a pity that they did not reach out and grasp it.
Guo Yuanyuan was not the only one filled with immense regret at the moment, as Lu Lingyu shared most of her thoughts as well. While she never spoke ill of him like Guo Yuanyuan did, she had never been very cold toward Lu Xuan nonetheless.
They had just missed an opportunity of a lifetime.
She truly realized what being a sn.o.b had been like and how she became a villain of the story instead.
Everyone else, on the other hand, was steeped in utter astonishment from what just happened. Yet another martial arts legend. Such figures were so rare that it was hard to meet just one in a hundred years, yet they seemed to pop up one after another at the moment.
It was especially astounding, given just how young those two before them were.
Chen Jiashang looked to be in his twenties and was definitely not yet 30. Lu Xuan looked even younger, so much so that one could have claimed he was in his late teens, and no one would have disagreed. He looked to be in his early twenties at most.
Reaching even Attainment at such an age would have made them geniuses in the past, yet both men were already martial arts legends.
It was truly legendary seeing them like that.
There had been rumors circulating among many warriors that the cosmos around them was about to be awakened yet again. To warriors, it was the coming of a great age never before seen.
From the looks of how those two performed, that rumor seemed to be more than just a rumor.
Lin Sheng continued to wear a bitter smirk among the crowd. He knew far more than what the others around him knew. He recalled Lu Xuan’s training and how much the young man achieved with just a single night of dedicated training. He was at a loss for words at the moment.
However, he did not continue to wallow in dejection. Be it Lu Xuan or Chen Jiashang, both pointed the way forward for him.
He, too, had a chance to become martial arts legends in the coming age that was never before seen, surpa.s.sing even the past great masters of the Seven Invincible Sect.
Li Xun, who was in a corner, saw how Lu Xuan rendered Chen Jiashang almost a cripple with just a single kick. He was utterly terrified. If he were to have any lingering thoughts of exacting revenge against Lu Xuan, then all those thoughts would have dissipated right there and then. A martial arts legend was no joke, after all.
Planning revenge against a martial arts legend would be akin to digging his own grave.
His martial arts prowess was lacking, yet he, too, knew what it meant to be a martial arts legend. If it had been ancient times, such figures would have been G.o.ds or at least overlords of the martial community. Their words would have held more weight than that of the emperor’s.
While he was indeed from a rather well-to-do family, if he were to get on the bad side of a martial artist, getting his family all killed within a single night was a very real possibility.
Squared-faced Fatso, who was at the other corner of the village, felt rather relieved. He said, “It’s a good thing that I didn’t volunteer to take on Chen Jiashang just because I know a thing or two about the arts. h.e.l.l, one kick from that kid would have definitely killed me!”
The fatso pressed against his chest, feeling he was very lucky.
He was actually feeling even more lucky that Lu Xuan happened to be present. If Chen Jiashang were to simply decide to kill everyone around indiscriminately, no one else would have been able to stop him otherwise.
The power of a martial arts legend was such that they could simply leave nonchalantly after going on a killing spree, and no one would have been able to stop them.
That kid was not a warrior who grew up in a sheltered environment like the countryside. He had been touring all over the world with all manner of mercenaries from a young age, making him a true, effective killing machine on the battlefield.
To overseas warriors, killing people was never much of a big deal, and it was a common occurrence.
Everyone harbored different thoughts about what was going on at the moment, and Lu Xuan took big steps as he walked up to Chen Jiashang.
Chen Jiashang forcibly suppressed his injuries. He knew that the key moment was right before him. However, he was puzzled as to why there was such a huge gap between two people who were martial arts legends.
He wondered if it had something to do with his achievements being something gained from ingesting that peculiar fruit instead of something gained from painstaking training.
He still had no idea just how terrifying that man before him actually was. That man was someone who could make short work of those who had been training diligently for decades, let alone someone like him, who got where he was from eating a fruit.
That man was truly invincible among peers of his level.
Chen Jiashang stomped on the ground. His inner qi burst all over his body. Mist swirled about him as he did so. He then threw another punch at the very next second, heading straight for Lu Xuan.
He had no other choice but to give it his in that punch. He would have had to rest for at least one whole year just to throw that one punch.
However, it would be worth it if he were to be able to kill or, at least, severely injure Lu Xuan.
That time, Lu Xuan opted not to merely take the incoming attack standing. He had instead chosen to catch his opponent’s arm. His move seemed light and flighty as if he was weightless. However, he ended up catching Chen Jiashang’s punching arm without breaking a sweat.
Chen Jiashang felt as if his arm sunk into quicksand, preventing him from moving at all.
Lu Xuan then launched another kick at him in the very next instant. However, the kick was aimed at his abdomen instead of his chest.
Bang!
Chen Jiashang was again sent flying with one kick, shrieking as he crashed to the ground before fidgeting for a bit and laying still. Blood continued to ooze from his mouth.
“You decimated my martial powers altogether!”
Chen Jiashang was unable to feel any Spirit Qi left in his lower abdomen. That point had literally exploded after being kicked by Lu Xuan, preventing him from being able to acc.u.mulate qi ever again.
That was the most terrifying outcome possible.
Despite his physical prowess being left intact, a martial arts legend devoid of the ability to gather Inner Qi was hardly any different from Baodan Grandmasters.
His fighting prowess had probably been reduced to the level of common Baodan Grandmaster right there and then.
Despite the level of Baodan Grandmaster being of unimaginable heights to common folk, as someone who had actually been a martial arts legend before, the difference was entirely unacceptable.
That kick from Lu Xuan crippled Chen Jiashang’s Dantian, which was located in the lower abdomen, for good. With his internal organs already severely injured, he struggled to even move.
Lu Xuan shook his head and said, “Taking you down took a lot of work.”
Everyone heard what Lu Xuan said and thought he meant that defeating a martial arts legend like Chen Jiashang had been difficult. However, none of what he did seemed to have suggested that it was difficult.
What Lu Xuan said afterward almost caused everyone to burst in astonishment.
“It was a h.e.l.l of a lot of work keeping you alive. You were a martial arts legend so weak that I could have almost kicked you to death,” Lu Xuan mumbled to himself.
What he said was true. Compared to the ones with astonis.h.i.+ng lineages behind them, a martial arts legend like Chen Jiashang felt like a worm instead.
It was obvious that Chen Jiashang never truly learned anything impressive. He was but a lone Cultivator who taught himself everything he knew.
Pfftt!
Chen Jiashang spat blood right after hearing that. It was obviously not enough that he was defeated and his powers crushed. The one who defeated him had to add insult to injury.
All those who were present were at a loss for words. They probably only wanted Lu Xuan just to stop throwing his weight around and keep his bragging in check, for he was already s.h.i.+ning as brightly as the sun.
