Chapter 743: Where did this Uncle Come from?
Anyone else would have probably grinned upon hearing of such an opportunity.
The sectmaster of the Immemorial Path wasn’t necessarily the best in all of the continent. Given the powers that the Immemorial Path commanded, however, whoever could become the master of such a sect would’ve at least been among the top three among their peers. They didn’t have to be the best on the continent.
With that said, there was no doubt that Xuanyangzi would’ve at least been among the top three among his peers. That meant that he was one of the three strongest among billions of beings out there.
Furthermore, average experts couldn’t even begin to comprehend what kind of powers were possessed by anyone among the top 1,000, let alone one of the top three.
Not even s.h.i.+ Buyi would’ve pa.s.sed up such an opportunity, but a child such as Liu Haotian was bold enough to do so.
He wondered if it was simply because the boy didn’t understand what kind of status and authority that the sectmaster of the Immemorial Path had.
Xuanyangzi began to explain, “You probably have no idea yet what it means to become the sectmaster of the Immemorial Path…”
However, Liu Haotian interjected. “I may have been nothing more but a peasant before, but that doesn’t mean I’m stupid or ignorant. Of course I know what it means to be the sectmaster of the Immemorial Path. I just thought that if I were to be the sectmaster, I still wouldn’t need someone to name me their successor at this stage.”
Xuanyangzi saw that despite Liu Haotian’s age, his words were clear and logical. That prompted him to think even more highly of the boy.
People from the sacred bloodline truly were formidable. Looking back through the historical records, anyone among the sacred ones who had awakened their bloodline was guaranteed to be a genius like no other.
Regardless of how average or insignificant they would have been otherwise, awakening the bloodline would allow one to begin transforming from the inside-out; they would’ve gone from an average person to a supreme genius. That was how it basically worked.
It was normal in this case for the awakened ones to have seen striking transformations in all aspects.
It was apparent that Liu Haotian had been shaped by both his personal experiences and Lu Xuan’s guidance.
That was what Xuanyangzi sought after.
Lu Xuan crossed his arms before his chest and touched his chin. He looked at Liu Haotian and asked, “Do you want to stay behind?”
Liu Haotian wore a serious expression on his face as he replied, “Yes, uncle.”
It was only then that Xuanyangzi and s.h.i.+ Buyi realized that Lu Xuan was Liu Haotian’s uncle.
‘They’re relatives, then. That explains why Lu Xuan would go out of his way to defy all odds, risking his neck just to save Liu Haotian then. Still, that leaves me wondering where this uncle of his came from? Is he from the mother’s side?’
Xuanyangzi felt rather puzzled. It wasn’t all that difficult to find information about Liu Haotian. In truth, the bloodline of the sacred ones was well-doc.u.mented and firmly under their surveillance. The Immemorial Path had been monitoring for if any from the sacred ones had awakened their bloodline while protecting their descendants from the shadows.
After Liu Haotian had awakened his bloodline, any information about the boy was seen as public information for many of the forces out there.
They all knew that Liu Haotian’s mother didn’t come from a clan; she was just an average commoner.
She wouldn’t have married Liu Haotian’s father, who was already a commoner back then anyway.
Where did this uncle come from then?
Did he just drop from the sky?
Did he just sprout out from the ground like some kind of plant?
Did the boy buy this uncle?
Xuanyangzi wondered if Lu Xuan approached Liu Haotian with some sort of ulterior motive in mind. No matter how he looked at it, it was a possibility.
Lu Xuan’s ident.i.ty was too much of an enigma. He demonstrated frightening combat prowess; while it was unstable enough to constantly fluctuate from being worthless to being extremely formidable, it still had a very high limit.
His powers were so powerful that the Thunder Lotus of Genesis attack, which Xuanyangzi learned from the projection that s.h.i.+ Buyi sent, had thoroughly shaken Xuanyangzi.
Liu Haotian wore a serious expression as he continued, “Uncle, you’ve told me often that flowers growing inside greenhouses could never become towering trees. It’s not like you’ll be able to protect me for the rest of my life. I want to stay behind. I know that it might be better for me to leave with you, but please let me stay behind. I want to look into the truth behind the destruction of the Liu Clan. Those who were responsible, whether they’re individuals or cultivation forces… I shall make them all pay!”
Liu Haotian spoke in all seriousness, yet the murderous intent in his tone was so apparent that there was no mistaking it for anything else. Given his talents, it wouldn’t have taken him long for him to reach a sufficient level of strength. By then, he would’ve been able to kill all of his enemies for good.
All those who had been involved in attacking the Liu Clan would pay.
The boy added, “I believe that is my mission. It must be why I was able to awaken the sacred bloodline in me.”
He felt that it was a mission given to him by the heavens. Even though he knew that he would have a better future leaving with Lu Xuan, he didn’t want to leave the Holy Sun Continent just yet.
Lu Xuan nodded and said, “Alright, you shall remain behind then.”
If the boy wants to stay behind, then so be it.
However, that didn’t mean that Lu Xuan would just leave the boy to his devices just like that. He would first clean up the entire continent.
“I’ll leave the Liu Clan’s vengeance to you.”
Liu Haotian bowed and said, “Thank you, uncle.”
He then turned to Xuanyangzi and said, “Sectmaster, I’m willing to join the Immemorial Path, but I do not need you to name me as your successor. I’m of the sacred ones. When was the last time you saw a member of the sacred ones needed the position of sectmaster of the Immemorial Path to get any kind of glory? I’m about to do the opposite. One day, I shall make the position of sectmaster of the Immemorial Path prestigious, because I’m the one sitting on the chair.”
Xuanyangzi busted out laughing. “Great. Hahahaha. That’s the spirit! Now, this is a member of the sacred ones!”
When he was very young, Xuanyangzi had personally seen one of the sacred ones. Since that had happened ages ago, n.o.body else knew about this. That was why the power of the sacred ones left such a lasting impression on him.
Over the ages, the sacred ones produced geniuses unlike any other throughout the ages. They all shouldered the responsibility of taking on the blood devil throughout the generations. This was the kind of bearing that Xuanyangzi saw that a member of the sacred ones should have.
The sacred ones were great not because they have become the sectmaster of the Immemorial Path. It was because the sacred ones were the ones becoming said sectmaster, that the position became a dazzling one.
s.h.i.+ Buyi’s expression changed a bit, but he quickly recomposed himself. Deep down, he was shocked. That boy’s bearing and magnanimity had truly eclipsed his own.
He then wore a bitter smile. Despite having carried himself as a genius like no other, he thought about how he had been completely overshadowed by a child.
What Liu Haotian said truly touched him. The sectmasters of the Immemorial Path had commanded such a presence throughout the world, but not because of the significance of the position itself. It was because the one taking the position was Xuanyangzi, the number one figure in the world.
If an average being were to sit on the chair, being appointed to such a position would have become a joke instead of an honor.
If s.h.i.+ Buyi could become the best in the world, then the position of sectmaster of his sect would naturally be his. Even if he weren’t the sectmaster, his status would remain just as prestigious.
On the other hand, being appointed the sectmaster, which he had worked so hard for, would’ve been little more than a joke if he were wasn’t among the top three.
s.h.i.+ Buyi finally understood.
He sensed changes in the level of his state of mind, which had bothered him for a long time. While it didn’t seem to benefit him much right now, he still knew that the epiphany he obtained would’ve greatly helped him in the future.
