Chapter 37 – I’ve got this Ancestor’s back (8)

Only he can help.

Lu Deng was worried but his eyes suddenly brightened when he heard that. He nodded and opened the shared screen with his left hand.

Although the sharp pain in his right wrist had faded away, his entire arm was still unable to exert any strength, still faintly rocked by uncontrollable tremors. Gu Ting held it for him and slowly rubbed his arm, power pa.s.sing through his palm. The color of blood slowly spread through his irises.

Gu Ting originally thought that the Special Service Office would at least treat their own people well.

Lu Huaiye’s power was strong, otherwise, he wouldn’t be bearing the stigmata. But his was not an offensive ability, after all. And he could naturally be restrained by the fire element. And yet, he was still sent out to do this kind of undercover work.

It now appears that the att.i.tude of the Special Service Office towards these subordinates who can be controlled and restrained was truly unreasonable to the point that it could not produce even the slightest bit of favorable impression upon their office.

“…Can you do it?”

Seeing that Gu Ting was also silent, Lu Deng thought of the other’s knowledge reserves which didn’t even include how to bite and he couldn’t help but secretly worry.

Pressing down on the thoughts in his heart, Gu Ting adjusted the virtual light screen, scanned it roughly and felt dumbfounded, “You guys also have take this test?”

“It’s an a.s.sessment of work ability. I must pa.s.s it.”

Lu Deng nodded, turning over three whole pages of questions about the inheritance of vampiric habits. He raised his worried head. “I only read the compulsory vampire studies 101. I haven’t had time to read the next few books…”

The original test time was this morning but he accidentally slept through it. On top of that, he didn’t pay attention to the reminder for the retest time. Now the questions have been sent to him and there was time limit. It was too late to flip through the books.

“It doesn’t matter, I will answer for you.”

Gu Ting chuckled lightly, and simply took the entire person into his arms. He took his right hand into his left palm and then raised his hand to turn the light screen into a simulated test paper, dropping it on the extended table beside the bed.

Although he wasn’t any good at biting people, when it comes to theoretical content, the inheritance received by the three generation vampire was very complete. These questions were even from the question bank provided at the beginning.

He was just helping him take the exam. There was no need concern himself too much about Special Service Office’s att.i.tude.

His expression was very determined. A bit of hope sprang into Lu Deng’s eyes. Just as he was about to hand the light pen over, he suddenly heard a heartbroken mechanical sound in his mind. “I can do it too&#k2026;”

Lu Deng smiled helplessly, and patiently consoled the system. “I know. I’ll let you do it next time.”

Last night, fearing to stimulate the system, Lu Deng had deliberately turned on the s.h.i.+elding. When he woke up at the noon, he didn’t find any shadow of the system. He only saw fragmented codes all over the floor. Lu Deng guessed that the system had snuck out to play and so he didn’t look for it. He hadn’t expected it to come back so quickly.

After painstakingly managing to piece itself together from its exploded code, the system never expected that now, it didn’t even have the qualifications to take an exam.

The host now already belonged to someone else’s house. The system, sobbing and sniffling, went back to the small black room. Soon there came the sound of grinding crosses.

Lu Deng raised the corners of his lips helplessly and tried to move his right hand. Gu Ting grabbed his body and pulled him deeper into his arms. “If you’re tired, rest for a while. I promise to get the all the answers correct.”

The textbooks of the “Vampire Compulsory Course” series was one of the only few remaining complied reference material of the vampiric ancestor. Now he was completely in his element answering these questions. He wrote very quickly and with just a few sentences, he had already filled most of the first page of the test questions.

His wrist no longer hurts. Lu Deng was pressed against his chest. As he looked up at the other side’s face profile, looking focused on answering the question, his arms unnoticeably went taut.

Lu Deng was afraid that forcing him to take the make up exam at this time, regardless of whether it might pose a threat to his current disguise, wasn’t simply because he had slept through the sudden exam.

Gu Ting wasn’t accustomed to riding human transportation, let alone using them to travel so far away. Suddenly boarding a long-distance floating s.h.i.+p will definitely attract the attention of the Special Service Office. Although the reason he had given, which was “to go out for photography material” was reasonable, it might not have satisfied those people.

With the current att.i.tude of those in power within the Special Service Office, it was possible that not only do they not want the vampires to have a way to replenish their energy, they may even secretly be causing vampires to go berserk due to power exhaustion and then stuff them out on the grounds that they “threaten humanity”.

At that time, Gu Ting was attacked also because of this unwritten tacitly agreed upon regulation.

The Special Service Office was warning him that if his att.i.tude was still biased towards Gu Ting and he was unwilling to tell them the other party’s true purpose, even if he answers all the questions correctly, he will still probably be judged as having failed. He will then be transferred away and a new agent will be sent to monitor Gu Ting.

If he didn’t guess wrong once he submits these test questions, the order for him to return to the Special Service Office will be issued no later than late tonight and he will be forcibly transferred back to the office.

Gu Ting answered the question very quickly. The three-page question was completed in a blink of an eye. After confirming the submission, he looked at the human youth in his arms who clearly had a load on his mind. He kissed him on the forehead.

Lu Deng regained his senses and directed a smile towards him.

“Are you worried about the painting?”

Touching Lu Huaiye’s gentle and refined brows, Gu Ting spoke softly. He pressed his lips against the side of his face and dropped a series of feather-light kisses. “If the drawing isn’t done well, we can go back to let you draw.”

A clear smile finally appeared in those black eyes. Lu Huaiye pursed the corners of his lips. He raised his arms to embrace the other around his shoulders and neck. He shook his head, “The outline is done. I can take my time to draw slowly.”

Gu Ting stared at him for a while. His brows stretched out and he drew close and kissed him.

“Then take a good night’s sleep and we’ll paint tomorrow. I’ll model for you. You can’t paint for as long as you want.”

As he said, he had already embraced Lu Huaiye to lay down. He held the person firmly against his chest and skillfully stripped off Lu Huaiye’s clothes for him with one hand.

This kind of start was somewhat familiar. Lu Deng blinked and cooperatively let him take off his clothes. However Gu Ting didn’t continue. He just embraced him against his chest and spread open the blanket. “Go to sleep.”

His little prey was uncomfortable and was worried about something. He needed a good night’s rest. If there was anything the matter, it can wait until tomorrow when he will take care of it.

His embrace was gentle and cool, sweeping away the last trace of summer heat. Lu Deng rubbed his chest lightly and stretched his arms to hug him before closing his eyes contentedly.

This way was fine as well.

As long as they were together, everything was fine.

The summer night was quiet and the sightseeing s.h.i.+p sailed through the night sky, the stars s.h.i.+ning by the edge of the window. Gu Ting hugged him and caressed his back. The power belonging to the dark night quietly penetrated his body, gently gathering him into drowsiness.

Gu Ting lowered his head and kissed his forehead. His fingertips gathered the soft strands of hair and carefully stroked them. He pressed against his forehead and said in a low voice, “If I take you away…”

He didn’t say any more, and this sentence simply trailed off.

Taking into account Lu Huaiye’s ident.i.ty, he had always left him enough time to be by himself. But he didn’t know how many times the other had been in pain when he wasn’t by his side.

The warm body nestled quietly in his arms. His breaths were light and even. He was probably already sound asleep.

He circled the person back into his arms and had Lu Huaiye pillow against his arm. Gu Ting closed his eyes and quietly poured his mental power into his dream.

Vampires have a gentle and romantic approach to this kind of thing. It wasn’t necessarily physical compatibility that const.i.tuted intimacy between them.

*

Lu Deng woke up under a bright star beam.

His body felt refreshed but his mind couldn’t help still being immersed in the lingering pleasantness. Looking at the vampiric ancestor who was sound asleep, feeling full and satisfied, Lu Deng remained silent for a long while. He finally couldn’t help the corners of his lips from ticking up. He leaned over and gave him a genuine soft kiss.

“Host, the order from the Special Service Office…”

The system had taken the initiative to pixelate the image captured by the surveillance. It waited until the host’s breathing and heartbeat gradually calmed down before cautiously reminding him.

Obviously the system had also checked it secretly and all the questions on the three pages were answered without errors or omissions. However, his results still came back as having failed the exam.

The Special Service Office gave strict orders for Lu Huaiye to leave the mission before 24:00 today and immediately return to the office for a review. These were the official words but the real purpose was obviously to interrogate him as soon as possible on Gu Ting’s actual reasons for this trip.

Lu Deng had also seen the command but he appeared to be extremely calm. The gentle light in his eyes deepened and he carefully got to his feet. “I saw it.”

Gu Ting had used his mental powers to enter into his dreams. Lu Deng used this to send a mental suggestion to the other’s mind instead. At this moment, he was sleeping soundly and it will take at least three hours before he wakes up. Taking advantage of this period of time, while he still has the ability to act freely on his own, he needed to get rid of the last danger for the other party.

Although its code had been bombed to pieces that one time because it’s host’s cabbage had been dug out, the system had never thought of separating the host from the mission target. Looking at the host’s particularly calm expression, it became even more worried. It put aside the crosses that it had been polis.h.i.+ng. “Host, I’ll go hack the Special Service Office!”

“It’s not the time yet. First help me s.h.i.+eld the communication device as much as possible. I have to find out the superpowered being who may go berserk.”

Hacking the Special Service Office now will only intensify conflicts. Lu Deng responded in his mind. The vine quietly opened the window and he leaped out, landing almost soundlessly.

It was very close to midnight but he had no intention of obeying the Special Service Office’s order. However, since the Special Service Office dared to yell orders at him like this, they must have a way to check and control him.

Before he was robbed of his ability to take action, he should, at much as possible, at least eliminate the potential danger.

The night was quiet. The pa.s.sengers have already fallen asleep. Things were peaceful and quiet on board.

There were more than 300 pa.s.sengers on this sightseeing s.h.i.+p. Plus the original service personnel on board, there were about 500 people. Rough screening proved unsuccessful and so he could only manually excluded each one, one by one.

Not this one.

Nor this one.

Lu Deng shuttled through each cabin, using vines to allow the system to get the clearest close-up view. They confirmed one by one, but no one had the same features as the superpowered being.

The system was a little anxious. It increased its data flow to the max and the speed at which it made the visual comparisons got faster and faster.
