Chapter 171 - Xian Zihao’s Care
Jiang Ruolan was puzzled. Zhou Shufen still came even after the rejection?
When Jiang Ruolan saw her entering the ward, she immediately closed her eyes. She heard the faint sound of footsteps walking towards the window, she opened her eyes slightly.
Zhou Shufen walked quietly to the sofa by the window and looked down at the sleeping Xian Zihao. When she caught sight of his suit jacket resting on the back of the sofa, she gently removed it and carefully covered it for him.
After covering him with his jacket, Zhou Shufen looked at him for a while before turning around and walking slowly to the bedside.
Jiang Ruolan closed her eyes again. When she didn't hear any movement, she couldn't help but open her eyes slightly, only to see Zhou Shufen still standing by the bed, staring at her with her (Zhou Shufen) watery eyes that were filled with spirit energy.
To be honest, Jiang Ruolan really didn't like the look in her eyes. Although it didn't seem like she had any ill intentions, she just didn't like it.
Jiang Ruolan frowned and looked at Zhou Shufen in silence. It was obvious that Zhou Shufen knew that she had woken up. What was the meaning of her to look at her (Jiang Ruolan) like that?
"I came uninvited, please don't take offense." Zhou Shufen leaned over with a smile and said in a low voice that only Jiang Ruolan could hear.
Jiang Ruolan also smiled at her and said in a soft voice, "No, not at all. Miss Zhou has personally come to visit and it is a great honor for me."
Zhou Shufen smiled. "I came here secretly behind my grandfather's back. I came to see how severely injured you are. I can't help much, but I have a Pendant of Peace with me. I'll give it to you as a gift."
She took out a silver necklace from around her neck. The silver necklace was not big, it was only the size of a fingernail, but it looked very old. The engravings on it were still remarkably well-preserved.
"I hope you get well soon," Zhou Shufen said softly, laying the necklace on the white table beside her bed.
"Thank you. I appreciate your kindness. As for the gift, I think it's better if you take it back." Jiang Ruolan said sincerely as she looked at Zhou Shufen's eyes, which did not have the slightest bit of malice in them.
"This is my gift to you." Zhou Shufen tilted her head and gave her a slight smile before winking at her. "My grandfather still doesn't know that I sneaked out by myself. I need to go back quickly. Miss Jiang, we'll meet again."
With that, she turned and left.
Silence returned to the ward once again. The only sound that could be heard was Xian Zihao's steady and shallow breathing.
The necklace was placed on the table by her bed. Jiang Ruolan wanted to get up and see the necklace, but she could not get up no matter what.
Since Zhou Shufen's appearance was so sudden, Jiang Ruolan had never treated her as an ordinary person. Moreover, her words at the welcoming banquet the other day seemed to be indifferent, and every word had a deep meaning.
Therefore, Jiang Ruolan couldn't understand why Zhou Shufen wanted to give this necklace to her. More and more questions popped up in her mind, like a cat's paw scratching her heart, causing her to be unable to lie down calmly.
Jiang Ruolan used her arms to support her body. She was barely getting up before she fell back down.
After repeatedly trying for a long time, Jiang Ruolan finally managed to the table. She stretched out her hand to touch the silver necklace, but just as she placed her hand on the table before she could touch it, she fell from the bed.
"Ah!"
Her head and neck were also twisted, causing her eyes to fill with tears. She felt that all the pain in her life was not as painful as this. The pain she felt when she was injured was not even a thousandth of the pain when her head was twisted!
What made her most upset was that the moment she fell off the bed and hit her head on the corner of the table, Xian Zihao heard her voice and suddenly opened his eyes.
At this moment, Jiang Ruolan wished she could reverse the situation by one minute...
She had been utterly humiliated!
"Why did you fall?" When Xian Zihao saw Jiang Ruolan fall from the bed, he immediately got up and walked towards her. He placed one hand around her neck to protect the wounds while the other wrapped around her waist and lifted her up.
Jiang Ruolan was a bit embarra.s.sed. She tried to smile at him, but the pain in her head and neck still made her smile look funny. Xian Zihao sighed lightly when he saw her expression.
He laid her back on the bed, propped up her body, and carefully examined the wound. After he saw that it was only slightly twisted and not pulled into the wound, his tightly knitted eyebrows loosened slightly.
"Why are you so careless?" He gave her a serious look.
Jiang Ruolan gently ruffled her hair before chuckling. "I'm sorry. I just want to move a little."
"Didn't I tell you not to move? If you want to get out of bed, wake me up and don't do it all yourself." His eyes were full of seriousness.
When Xian Zihao saw her embarra.s.sed face, he felt helpless and helped her to lie down.
"You were sleeping soundly. I don't want to wake you up."
Xian Zihao sighed, and then suddenly seemed to remember something. He turned around and looked at the sofa and then looked at the suit jacket that he had just pushed aside.
"Who's been here before?" he asked suddenly.
Jiang Ruolan looked at his face.
The evening light shone through the bright gla.s.s windows of the VIP ward, and the faint rustle of the early winter wind could be heard as it blew through the trees.
But at the same time, Xian Zihao's gaze stopped at the white table beside her bed.
His gaze was so peculiar that it was like a whirlpool in the deep sea. His eyes were deep as if there was no end to the night. He said softly, "Is it Zhou Shufen?"
Sure enough, the so-called Pendant of Peace must be something related to Zhou Shufen and Xian Zihao.
When Xian Zihao could tell that Zhou Shufen had come, Jiang Ruolan tried her best to control her emotions and truthfully said, "Yes, Miss Zhou came just now. She said that she knew I was injured and gave me that necklace as a gift."
After she finished speaking, she looked at Xian Zihao's face and saw that there were no longer any ripples in his eyes. He only glanced at the necklace, then picked it up with his hands, playing with it.
"This is not a Pendant of Peace, and it is not suitable for you. Return it to her when you have time, or throw it away." He said indifferently and then put the necklace back onto the table.
For a split-second, Jiang Ruolan thought she saw a sliver of frost in Xian Zihao's eyes, but it was only a split-second before that coldness faded away completely.
Jiang Ruolan vaguely felt that the relations.h.i.+p between Xian Zihao and Zhou Shufen, one was a cold avoidance, the other a cautious pursuit. Zhou Shufen was a clever and shrewd woman, and Qin Gengxin had also said that she was actually a playful and disrespectful young lady who didn't care about anything.
If Zhou Shufen and Xian Zihao were really like this, why would they test her step by step like this?
But from Jiang Ruolan's observations, it seemed to have the opposite effect in the end.
The cold glint that flashed across Xian Zihao's eyes caused Jiang Ruolan to be a little confused.
A short while later, a nurse and a doctor came to check on her condition. After confirming that there was no danger anymore, they repeatedly warned her not to move much and helped her change the bandage.
Xian Zihao's phone rang again. He looked at the number and frowned. Jiang Ruolan was lying quietly on the bed, letting the doctor change the bandage for her.
Xian Zihao then walked out of the ward to answer the call.
The doctor who helped her change the bandage did it lightly as if he knew her ident.i.ty as Mrs. Xian and did not dare to hurt her.
Jiang Ruolan was particularly ticklish, and as the doctor's hand lightly touched the back of her neck, she could not help but lie there laughing, "Don't! So itchy."
The doctor was a woman in her forties. If it weren't for Jiang Ruolan's special ident.i.ty, she would have asked the nurse to change it. The female doctor glanced at the trembling shoulder and held it without saying a word. "Miss Jiang, you are changing the bandage now. Don't move recklessly."
"But it's so itchy …" Jiang Ruolan laid on her pillow and couldn't help chuckling.
The female doctor sighed and continued to change the bandage. "I don't know how you can still smile after being injured like this."
Jiang Ruolan was really afraid that someone would touch her neck. Even the back of her neck was the same. It was so itchy that she could barely stand it. She laughed so hard that she almost burst into tears. "I can't control my laughter."
"It's alright then. Miss Jiang, if you survive this calamity, you will have a lot of good fortune in the future." The female doctor smiled and started flattering, "Miss Jiang, when you were sent to the hospital the other day, President Xian's s.h.i.+rt was almost completely stained red by your blood."
"Really?"
Jiang Ruolan had her arms wrapped around the pillow. Due to the doctor's words, she no longer focused on the itch on the back of her neck, nor did she keep smiling.
She suddenly remembered that day when Xian Zihao pulled her up and held her in his arms. The instant he saw the back of her head bleeding and before she lost consciousness, she saw Xian Zihao's face was terrifyingly pale.
After the doctor had done changing her bandage, Jiang Ruolan lay on the bed and tried to sleep.
She could feel Xian Zihao's care for her. In an instant, she felt as if all the dark clouds in the sky had vanished like smoke in thin air.
Regardless of whether Zhou Shufen's existence still affected him or not, regardless of what Zhou Shufen would do or what she wanted to do, Jiang Ruolan would try her best to protect her marriage.
No one would pity their defeated opponents and how could she, Jiang Ruolan, be willing to be the defeated party?
As for Xian Zihao, he was naturally on her side. No matter how powerful the Zhou Family was, no matter what kind of past Zhou Shufen and Xian Zihao had, whether her (Jiang Ruolan) marriage because of personal reason, she, Jiang Ruolan, would always be Xian Zihao's legal wife.
Perhaps, it would be a battle of attrition between two evenly matched opponents in the first place.
Most importantly, Xian Zihao insisted on their marriage and didn't do anything to let her down. What reason did she have to let Zhou Shufen lead her away?
Jiang Ruolan didn't want to be on the pa.s.sive side all the time, and she definitely wouldn't just resign herself to fate.
Life was always like this.
