Chapter 1277: Chapter 1277: Queue to Visit
Just as a few families in Trinity village were busy moving, the Capital buzzed ever more loudly about Song Zishan’s affairs. The rumors spread more and more, and it was said that the place where Song Zishan was detained had visitors daily.
Not just one or two; sometimes, people even had to queue up.
Those unaware might think Song Zishan had good relations.h.i.+ps, but those in the know were shocked beyond belief.
All those visiting were there to kick her while she was down.
To say they were kicking her while she was down might not be entirely objective—it would be more accurate to say they were there to take revenge and vent their anger.
In the past, many people were scorned and looked down upon by Song Zishan. Even people like Chief Editor Xia were aggressively forced into selling their labor’s fruits for a low price, among other things. But previously, due to the Song family’s power, no one dared to speak out.
They could only endure it.
There were also those who were in the same social circle as Song Zishan, or lived in the same large courtyard, or had become sworn enemies over petty jealousies and squabbles.
These people flocked to take pleasure in her downfall.
They would queue up just to see for themselves how miserable Song Zishan was.
“Do you know how miserable Song Zishan is now?” Xu Junfeng poured himself some steaming tea, the red scarf around his neck flaring like flames, enhancing his handsome features.
The person sitting opposite Xu Junfeng was none other than Lu Jianan, looking much less kempt in contrast to Xu Junfeng’s spirited appearance. His hair was messy, and his sleepy eyes clearly showed that he had been called out from sleep.
“After all your talk, now I am informed,” Lu Jianan said weakly, staring blankly at the empty tea house.
Xu Junfeng’s enthusiasm was undiminished. “Dont you have anything to say?”
Lu Jianan thought for a bit. “I don’t know if I should help Zishan, nor do I know how to help her. These days, I’ve been thinking, though I really can’t help her, speaking well of her might also be good. At least by doing so, she wouldn’t be utterly abandoned by everyone and forsaken by the whole world.”
Xu Junfeng’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Lu Jianan, have you lost your mind? Do you know how many people are enjoying seeing Song Zishan’s misfortune? If you dare speak up for her now, you’ll become everyone’s enemy.”
“I know,” Lu Jianan said with a bitter smile.
Zishan had come to see her before her arrest, a moment she couldn’t forget. If Zishan hadn’t been suddenly arrested, she would have surely persisted in asking for help.
“And you still want to speak up for her? Have you forgotten how she treated you?”
“We… we have been good friends for over a decade, and if I don’t do something for her, I won’t feel at peace with myself.”
“You’ve always seen her as a friend, but she has never regarded you as a true friend,” said Xu Junfeng, the warmth vanis.h.i.+ng from his face, replaced by a mocking cold smirk. “I think you’d better forget it. You have the option to remain uninvolved, but if you actively choose a side, you can’t blame others for what happens.”
“What do you mean?” Lu Jianan keenly sensed the deep meaning in Xu Junfeng’s words.
“Forget it; for old times’ sake, I’ll give you some advice.”
Xu Junfeng set down his teacup, gestured to call a waiter, but realized that today being New Year’s Eve, not a single staff member was in sight. There was only one shop owner somewhere out there, leaving him no choice but to brew the tea himself.
“Go ahead.” Lu Jianan watched Xu Junfeng intently, his previous sleepiness completely vanished, eyes gleaming brightly.
Xu Junfeng held up two fingers. “First, the issue of choice. If you speak up for Song Zishan, you are choosing to make an enemy of Song Jinyan. Think it over carefully.”
