Chapter 1285: Chapter 1285: Celebrating the New Year
Su Qing shook her head after some thought, “Let’s not! It’s not good. We are all here; there’s no need for you to give up your studies to stay home too. Just remember not to disappear once you go. Make sure to come back frequently and to call home often. You’ve been away for over half a year, and we all missed you.”
It was the first time the sisters had been apart for such a long time since they grew up together.
Even during the store opening, Fifth Sister didn’t come.
“Alright then! I’ll listen to you, Second Sister,” Su Jun agreed after some thought.
Today, Zhou Hengyang was not at home; he had been called away early in the morning by Zhou Jihuai’s people. At noon, the sisters had a joyful lunch together. In the afternoon, they were busy making dumplings, watching TV; the atmosphere was very lively.
After making the dumplings, they began to prepare the evening’s New Year’s Eve dinner.
Zhou Hengyang proposed to have the New Year’s Eve dinner at a restaurant, but none of the sisters agreed as they felt that dining in a restaurant lacked atmosphere and the feeling of home.
Though they didn’t go to the restaurant, the dishes prepared at home were still extremely lavish.
Eight cold dishes, four meat dishes, and four vegetarian dishes. For hot dishes, there was braised pork, a whole carp symbolizing abundance, wild mushroom stew with old hen soup, steamed cured meats, and sautéed artemisia, among others, all laid out on a large round table.
New Year’s Eve was the most abundant day of them all.
Su Xiu took charge of the cooking, while Su Qing and Su Xue were in charge of was.h.i.+ng and chopping vegetables, a.s.sisting in the kitchen. Su Wen, who recently began experiencing morning sickness, couldn’t enter the kitchen at all, so she stayed in the yard playing with Little Sister and Sixth Sister.
“By the way, do we know Jin Yan?” Su Jun ran from her upstairs room to the kitchen to ask.
The three sisters suddenly glanced at each other, seeing the confusion in each other’s eyes.
Su Qing: I didn’t mention it.
Su Xiu: I didn’t mention it either.
Su Xue: I hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
Finally, Su Qing casually asked, “We do know Jin Yan, the cousin of Song Zishan, but why did you suddenly ask about him?”
Although Su Jun was increasingly seen as increasingly bookish and dull-witted in everyone’s eyes, she was sharp enough to notice the exchange of glances between her three older sisters and wouldn’t be fooled by Second Sister!
“Does he have any special relations.h.i.+p with our family?”
“No,” Su Qing answered decisively.
“Then it’s strange. If there’s no relations.h.i.+p, why would he specifically tell me he got married? Is he hinting for me to contribute money?” Su Jun narrowed her eyes, questioning herself, “The 57 Research Inst.i.tute wouldn’t be so petty, right? Although I promised to go there after the New Year, they shouldn’t be asking me for money ahead of time!”
He doesn’t seem like that kind of person!
“Jin Yan really got married?” Su Xiu blurted out in surprise.
“Yes!” Though Su Jun had always stayed in the Capital, she was genuinely not well-informed. If Jin Yan hadn’t gone to tell her himself, she would have never known. It was precisely because Jin Yan personally came to tell her that she found it strange.
She wasn’t familiar with Jin Yan at all, they had no relations.h.i.+p.
While Su Xiu and the others were chattering about Jin Yan’s sudden marriage, Su Qing caught the words “57 Research Inst.i.tute.” She remembered hearing about it from her father as a child. Wasn’t that the place where her father used to work?
“Are you going to the 57 Research Inst.i.tute after the New Year?” Su Qing suddenly asked, ice-cold.
The chatter suddenly froze.
“Yes!” Su Jun said, puzzled, “Did you also hear about it from Dad, Second Sister?”
Su Xiu and Su Xue did not know and just looked curiously at the two of them.
Su Qing nodded, “Yeah! You…” She originally didn’t want her sister to go, but the image of Jin Yan in Trinity Village and his lonely figure when leaving involuntarily surfaced in her mind, ultimately preventing her from voicing her concerns.
