James Butler and these letters are referred to in the _Life of Dr.
Butler_, and also in the _Memoir_ of Butler. Butler gave to the British Museum an incomplete copy of the Letters and kept another incomplete copy which I gave to the British Museum. Each of the incomplete copies contained matter not in the other. I had this volume (now at St John's) made up from the two incomplete copies.
