Ch 2.1 – Meng Manor

The rest of the ride to the Meng household was silent.

“We're here,” the driver with sungla.s.ses reminded Meng Ting as the car parked in front of a huge iron gate.

Hearing the driver speak, Meng Ting snapped out of his fugue like state. Meng Zhong was also bored out of his mind but he could only be glad that the young man wasn't asking him any difficult questions.

Both Meng Zhong and the driver, Lao w.a.n.g, couldn't help but think that this young master Meng was a bit special.

Meng Ting was not aware himself of the impression that he had left on the driver and the chauffer. He subconsciously touched his nose; he was not wearing the metal-rim gla.s.ses that he wore in his previous life as they made him look too smart. He clenched his fist and took a deep breath to calm himself.

Meng Ting followed behind Meng Zhong who led him into the European styled manor. In front of the front door, there was a huge fountain. Looking around he could see the flower garden and a grove. Pa.s.sing the fountain, there was a large five-story building, the house belonging to Meng lao yezi.

To be able to monopolize such a large manor in the suburbs of Haicheng, it clearly showed off the Old Master's position in Haicheng.

Meng Ting stared at the mansion. This was the second time he had come to the Meng manor, but it was his first time in this life. His curiosity lasted a total of three seconds before he looked away. Meanwhile Meng Zhong was feeling displeasure at the order by Uncle Wen to accompany the young boy who very much resembled a country b.u.mpkin with his curious gaze. Meng Zhong "harrumphed" in his heart as he looked at the boy's naive expression.

Uncle Wen who had previously contacted Meng Ting received a notice gatekeeper when Meng Ting arrived at the door.

Uncle Wen walked out from the flower garden and stopped three steps from Meng Ting and Meng Zhong.

Meng Zhong took a glance at Meng Ting before turning back to Uncle Wen, he introduced, "This is young master Meng Ting."

Uncle Wen heard this and his eyes swept Meng Ting's face, his eyes betrayed no emotion. He nodded gently. Meng Zhong bowed towards Uncle Wen with extraordinary respect.

Uncle Wen looked at Meng Ting and Meng Ting looked back at him. Four or five years ago, Meng Ting had realized that he always looked a little serious. This sort of expression, he was afraid to be mistaken to be treating Uncle Wen with the same disregard that he treated Meng Zhong with.

However, his observations were all useless. He indeed had a clear understanding of their qualifications, he saw their age and temperament, but what is the use of it all in the end. Meng Ting pondered over it but he was unable to come up with anything to deal with his situation.

"Please," Uncle Wen spoke to Meng Ting, the solemn and serious look vanished from his face and his appearance became gentle and considerate. "Seventh young master, I am called Uncle Wen."

"Oh," Meng Ting recovered his attention. He felt that this Uncle Wen was very strange; he had actually changed his temperament to this degree in less than two second. Earlier he had tried to sound out Uncle Wen but he felt thwarted. It seems he could only wait quietly to be married off.

Uncle Wen was truly a competent butler; he acted indifferent without betraying the slightest emotion and led Meng Ting to the Main house. However he decided to stop by the napping Meng lao yezi with Meng Ting before he headed any further.

As a b.a.s.t.a.r.d child who had just entered the household, he naturally must first greet the head of the household in order to gain complete acknowledgment of his ident.i.ty. Otherwise it was quiet obvious that his treatment in the house would not be too good.

In his previous life when Meng Ting had arrived at the house, he had only seen Meng lao yezi once before getting stuck in the laboratory, hence he was not very familiar with the man.

But he wouldn't have to worry about his fate in this life because he had decided to embark on the path of "waste" with the destination being marriage.

Uncle Wen glanced at Meng Ting, a look of approval flashed in his eyes when he saw the boy's cool and composed demeanor. Unlike the other illegitimate children who had been brought into the house, the boy wasn't looking left and right, running his mouth non-stop about everything in sight.

Uncle Wen led Meng Ting through a large hall and then through a small door. On the other side of the door was a luxurious baroque style study. This was the place where Meng lao yezi like to come to read for leisure. He was truly different from the slow Meng Ting who had trouble even memorizing some simple paragraphs.

Different from his accomplishments in his previous life, this time around Meng Ting was intent on sinking himself into obscurity. He was perfectly content with simply being a vase, pretty on the outside, empty on the inside.

Meng Ting looked inside the study to see a man with his eyes shut lying in his chair; he hesitated outside the door for a while before finally moving. He didn't know if this wily fox was truly asleep or if he had intentionally faked it when he was told about Meng Ting coming to greet him.

Uncle Wen stopped at the door to the study, waiting behind as Meng Ting alone entered.

His gaze swept over the hearty old man once before he looked down. He was unable to gather anything about the old man, but he realized that he needed to keep his guard up. First impressions were always the strongest; if he displeased the master of the house… his days wouldn't be very pleasant to say the least.
