Notes: I got tired of waiting for another chapter of this series, so I decided to give it a go. Don't expect a professional TL, in fact I doing this in hopes the original TL resumes his works, if he doesn't I will make an effort to continue, don't get your hopes up, I'm probably going to give up sooner rather than later.

I also changed some of the names, like Lade instead of Lid, Mystic to Shaman and so on. Mostly because I think they fit better and because there's no official spelling yet, I believe.

Without further ado, here's chapter 99 of Mayojou.

That which lurks within

[Well, no other choice huh?, sorry but I’ll be reading your mind. First, why do you all know my name?]

[...]

The Shaman tied on the chair, was silently glaring at me full of hatred.

He was resolute to not leak any kind information, but there’s nothing he can do in front my ESP medal.

According to the Patriarch and Diane, it’s been a few years since he started working for the Patriarch’s wife and Diane’s mother, Shaela, at the garden of G.o.ds.

After hearing all this, it reminds me of baron Cobal the priest of Lelis city.

From the adventurers investigation, the priest and the baron were supposedly leading a bunch of dark beast cultists. So it was natural to a.s.sociate this Shaman with them.

Different from baron Cobal, it seems the Shaman still has his consciousness, so it may be possible to get a lot of information from him.

“Oracle... The king of the dark beasts... the oracle... must kill the man called Gio Margis...”

The king of the dark beasts?, this is going out of control. However, his consciousness is barely there. That Dark beast king, is it a proper name? Also, what is that thing he is calling like that?

[The dark beast king? Who’s that? Why does he want to kill me?]

The info I got from Lade’s reconnaissance report was that by the time they got to “G.o.d’s garden” the dark beasts were already occupying it and there was no one else apart from the Shaman.

“The dark beast king... he’s the one who will bring ruin to this world... Jio Margis is just an hindrance... ...■■■■...”

I get it but still, d.a.m.n no matter what I ask the answers are far from what I expected... The ESP medal transmit his consciousness directly into my brain, along with some unknown noise. Similar to baron Cobal who has already lost his mind by the time I read it.

[Is the dark beast king the one giving orders to all the cultist around the world? ah, can he influence someone else other than cultists?]

I asked as I grab and shake him by the shoulder.

His body was non responsive, and was swinging back and forth as I shaked him, also, his eyes were now blank.

“The king.... speaks directly into our hearts... ■■■…… no matter where... or whom... his hatred will... ■■...”

[What about the priestess of the War tribe, is he meddling with her already!? Is she the one spreading that I’m a dark beast and a focal point!?]

The noise inside the Shaman’s mind is increasing, his consciousness is suddenly drowning in that noise.

“……■■…□■■□■□■…… ■■■□■■■■■■□■……”

[Grr... are there others like the priest of the darkness G.o.d!? Where!?]

“■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■……”

No more information was being gathered by ESP medal, I was almost there... the regret was starting to pile up.

[Is this all?... no wait.]

Once again I pressed into the Shaman’s shoulder.

The ability of the ESP medal is telepathy.
Until I’ve been using it as kind of receptor, in other words, I’ve only been using it to read one’s consciousness.

There’s wasn’t a rule in D&B regarding how to use such ability... Still, the real thrill in TRPG is to figure out how to use spells and items.

“Hey!! Shaman! come to your senses now!”

I held out the ESP medal, and anxiously sent my own words into his mind...

“……□■□■… ah... garr...”

“If you are still human help us one last time! The other cultists, where are they and what are they doing!?”

I don’t know if any of his consciousness still remains.

There was no more words to be said, he was desperately calling to his heart, that was like a well filled with pitch black hatred.

It wasn’t words, but an image that was conveyed.

[aaaAAAARRGGG!!]

[Wonderful! just wonderful! a new focal is now created!]

[Shaela-sama, it seems all the malice from the Ogre figure has been cleared]

I saw it, below Lelis city was an altar made of the remains of dark beasts and humans, in front of it was the image of a beautiful woman and the Shaman speaking to each other.

In a highway unbeknownst to anyone, was the image of a lone Shaman walking.

The image of a young Shaman, looking up to a sparkling white temple.

“YOU    are     you    Margils?”

[aaAAAAHH!?]

[Gio!?]

[What happened!?]

It seems that I peeked into a fragment of the Shaman’s memories.

I saw an enormous temple, and then a voice suddenly pierce into my consciousness.

It wasn’t the Shaman.

It was a “voice”, overwhelmingly full of hatred.

Shocked and terrified I screamed as I fell on my back. The ESP medal resounded after colliding with the floor.

Astonished, Claura and Leiha hurried to my side, they held me as I was trembling with fear and sweating cold.

[HAaa...]

The effects of the ESP medal ran out and the link to the Shaman’s consciousness was severed.

I can’t also hear that “voice” anymore but... that’s obviously a being far removed of the norm. Probably that’s the king of the dark beasts.

[He's sweating so much... what happened?]

[Hold on my lord! ...]

Claura was composedly wiping my sweat, while Leiha looked worried.

Meanwhile, before I knew it, Rade had readied his great sword, and was looking at the Shaman who was convulsing while still tied to the chair.

[Lade, he’s...]

[Step back]

[arg ah arggggg]

If he keeps convulsing so violently, he could break off the ropes tying him...

Violently going back and forth, his head started to swell, like a CG, and then burst open...

[Pum]

It sounded as if a tire just burst open.

At that moment, fragments of the Shaman’s head scattered all over the place, a big lump stuck morbidly on the ceiling.

[AHH!]

Claura was petrified in place while still holding me, Leiha drawed her dagger and stood in front of us  to protect us.

[grr]

Meanwhile Lade, raised his voice even if the thing in front of him seemed like a fly, he simply lifted his sword, and with the tip he stabbed the lump stuck on the ceiling.

[W-what the h.e.l.l is that?]

[Crick crick]

The lump, st.i.tched to the ceiling with the sword was wriggling.

If one paid attention, that eerie creature (?) more than a pink lump of meat looked like a spider or a jellyfish maybe.

Its size is one third of the size of the head of the Shaman.

[T-that thing... was lurking inside his head? ...]

[Uhm...]

More than anyone else, Leiha was mumbling dumbfounded after observing the creature.

Claura, after enduring for several seconds the sight of the creature, she finally put her face on my shoulder.

In spite of that, she is a brave women who won’t budge an inch in front of a dark beast. On the other hand, Leihas’s ability to tolerate such grotesque scene is praiseworthy. If possible, I would also like to look away.

“Interrogate the enemy’s leaders which are now prisoners” In that situation normally the prisoners got themselves killed or just commit suicide to prevent any leak, or so I expected. Thus I hurried with the interrogation... but this was excessively cruel...

[It’s the first time I see something like this, the possessed person was actually used to getting across his point...]

Lade is mumbling bitterly.
