“Do you know where the Adventurer’s guild is? Is it much further?”
“Just a little bit further.”
Our reason for going to the Adventurer’s Guild is to collect a quest reward as per the suggestion of the auntie that ran the curios shop, and to register with the guild.
“As I recall, the matter with the behemoth was Crescent something or other, a single name of some sort, is what I heard, something to do with the guild—-”
“Yes, the well-known occupational a.s.sociation. Though there’s various kinds of purposes with a guild, but I’m referring to the universal education a.s.sociation, and in particular, a merchant. The a.s.sociation host the various guilds in town.”
“I’m aware of such an organisation.”
“Each town has a branch office of the guild, which brokers with the quest clients. They also perform administration of the guild and deal with the adventurers who are members.”
I was led to a time-worn brick building through the guidance of Rifua. It seems to be the place, as a number of adventurer-types are seen to be coming and going from the establishment.
Near the front was a big bulletin board, where I took a look at what was posted on it. As I neared it, I saw that it was a listing of all current quests given by the guild.
“So there’s a client who makes a request from the guild, which then mediates the request with interested adventurers, and this is where the adventurers find those requests?”
I quickly found the quest in question on the bulletin board.
‘SS Rank Behemoth subjugation’
Location: Lefon Plains
Conditions: a party of at least 40 people needed to undertake this request.
Quest Giver: Weig Livove
Reward: Details are with the representative in charge
Representative: Carla Milan’
I entered the a.s.sociation and found a sign. It appeared that this building was the headquarters for a number of guilds in this town.
The second floor was devoted to lifestyle guilds like the Tailor’s and Seamstresses’ Guild. The first floor was for the Adventurer’s Guild proper.
I found a vacant reception desk, and called out to the receptionist.
“Good Day.”
“Good Day. How may I help you today?” The older sister gave a mild smile. [Milan] is written on a name tag. Oh, good. This is the person in charge of the behemoth quest.
Because we were asked to sit, Rifua sat next to me.
“I have come to register with the Adventurer’s guild and turn in a quest today.”
“? Oh, yes. Alright then. The first step is to register with the guild.”
I was handed a registration form and a pen. It asked for name, gender, weapon proficiencies, and skills. Though I shouldn’t have been able to understand the language, it was the same as the prize list at the gatcha shop.
“Rifua, am I able to write this language?”
“Probably. It should be alright.”
Even though I intended to write in j.a.panese, it came out in the local language.
“Ma’am, would you like to register as well?”
“Me? You want me to? But I’m a G.o.ddess…”
“……., Ahahaha. Certainly.” I let out a draining laugh! I pushed the G.o.ddess’ part to the side with a draining laugh!
I finished writing quickly while thinking about that. Because I was not certain about the skills column, I left it blank.
Milan collected the form, and check to see if anything was missing. She inquired about my age, so I said around the mid-twenties.
“Yes. Once this registration is entered, you can turn in a quest.”
I was handed a card about the size of a driver’s license. Am I a full-fledged adventurer with this too?……. To the left of my name appears to be an adventurer rank, which is marked a [G]. Of course, [G] is the lowest rank. From there it goes to F, then E, and then goes up from there. Beyond A is S.
“The highest rank is SSS?” So Rifua taught me correctly.
“I will explain the basics of the guild next.”
“Well, I did a little while ago.”
Even though Milan-san was talking, Rifua cut in with an unpleasant face.
“Don’t b.u.t.t in.”
“What, does my explanation mean nothing?”
“I’m not saying that. Just behave yourself. Excuse me, I…..”
“No, no.”
I get the impression that Milan-san is being incredibly adult about this. The h.e.l.l is this!
“Ouch!”
I pinched Rifua’s thigh!
“Jinta, you dummy.”
Speak ill of other children? What’s with the poutyness? Milan-san begins to laugh.
“For the time being, I’ll give an explanation.” What Milan told us was pretty much what Rifua had said earlier. Because the registration was over, I decided to get on with main purpose of my visit.
“Um, about the reward for the quest involving the behemoth subjugation, is thus where to ask for it?”
“Well, you’ll have to talk to the client about that.”
“Eh? I have to talk to the quest giver? About such things as the amount of money and the like?”
“Yes,” said Milan-san.
“Is there any way I can get it here?”
“In this case, it was a special situation. It was pa.s.sed to the Adventurer’s Guild representative in?”
Really? Milan nods smilingly with an “Uh-huh.”
“So because I subdued the behemoth, I have to visit the quest giver?”
“Yes. After defeating it, scales and fangs are used as proof of subjugation. Said evidence would need to be appraised to verify their authenticity…?”
“Ah, okay. So I would have to provide proof of its defeat?”
“Um, with that quest, it needed a minimum of forty people of at least rank B to accept it.”
Well, you only live once. I removed the set of Behemoth drops from my item box, and showed them to her. The burnt smell is still as bad as before.
“The auntie at the curio shop said I should bring it here for consultation.”
“Madame Lean…….?”
So her name is Lean? That person? I couldn’t tell if she was an uncle or an auntie. I handed the appraisal papers from Madam Lean over to Milan.
“This is from the Madame, indeed…… And the other day [Crescent Lights] went after it. But no one else has even bothered to ask about it, because of that clan taking it. Are you a representative of that group, coming in on their behalf?”
“Dozens of people…..? I did it alone.”
“What, by yourseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllfff!? How is it that one person could defeat that behemoth by themselves!?” With that, Milan-san stood up and cried. Milan’s voice that was previously graceful soon made a great clamor. It was so loud that it echoed across the entire floor. I watched as the room became abuzz with conversation.
“My partner Jinta says ‘I defeated that behemoth all on my lonesome’?”
“The strength of a behemoth scale is tough, right? The power need to do this….”
“……Was it that powerful?”
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!? Without fail it was powerful!”
“It was?”
“It was…. The scales…. The scales were so tough that it repelled axe and spear and sword, and its magic resistance was extremely high as well.” Milan-san rapped a scale at the counter hard and fast with a sounding of konkon.
“I’m sorry that I don’t understand, because that behemoth…. It crumbled to dust in an instant.”
With dizziness and vertigo overtaking her, Milan-san sat down with a loud thump in a daze.
“Huh. In an instant…… dust….”
Since we’ve concluded our business here, let’s go off to claim the reward. It seems that I have to show the parts and the certificate of verification to the quest giver.
As I put them away in the item box, a middle-aged adventurer approached me.
“Excuse me! Won’t you join our clan!?”
Wait, what, old man? This person wants me to join his clan? Huh? Why would he want me to join?
“Please sign this, mister famous adventurer!”
Didn’t I just become an adventurer!? Various adventurers flocked around me.
“Bro, our clan—”
“No to the inside of a place—”
“Well, it is my place.”
“Unwillingly.”
My my my, Please everyone, just back off.
“Um, that person….. he’s so coooool!”
“His clothes are stylish as well…. Is it good?”
“—-Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!” Rifua glares back at an adventuress without exception.
Is it good if I am pampered, even a little………..
“Jinta, shall we go?”
“Ok, wait. I don’t know where the quest giver is.”
“Because I know where he is.”
“You do? How so?”
“The Rivove families are famous. They are a nation of people living out in the depths of a forest.”
“Nation? Forest?”
“That’s right. Because Rivove is the name of the elven families.”
