VOLUME 9 CHAPTER 121: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS THE AFTERMATH OF OUR DEFEAT (8) Liu Bei POV “Here.” I said as I turned to the side. “Ah, thanks.” Feng Xian thanked me as she took her clothes and the cloth, “But Xuan De needn’t act like this. I know you won’t peep after all.” Wu! Feng Xian’s words. .h.i.t really hard. Soon, the sounds of her leaving the large pail could be heard and I shut my eyes and blocked out the sounds. “Of course I won’t.” I replied even though it was very hypocritical of me. ‘Irresistible’ is not a good excuse at all. It’s a good thing she does not know that my diving into her bathtub was not a dream. At the very least, I know that it’s not for me as I can still taste the soap water in my mouth. Of course, whether this event is a sweet dream or a nightmare will depend on how this goes. Just then, the sounds of her wiping herself could be heard. “But if Xuan De were to see what I look like now, I really don’t know what I would do.” Wu… –Yaaaaaa! I screamed inside as a guilty conscience tortured me. I must never tell anyone what happened just now. Never, I thought as I reached up to touch my hair and found that it was mostly dry now. “… Ah.” Just then, Feng Xian seemed to have realised something, “Xuan De, you missed out my red inner garments…” “Ah, I did?” I asked as I looked towards the hot water pail and found that there was indeed a red cloth there. Ah… I was too careless. It would have been fine if I had taken it together with everything… But if I were to retrieve it now by itself… “Ahem,” I cleared my throat, “I-I’ll go get it now.” But now was not the time to be squeamish about it. Feng Xian needs to wear her clothes as soon as possible. “Ah, no no no,” Feng Xian suddenly spoke up and stopped me in a rather frantic voice, “I’ll go get it myself.” When she finished, she poked her head out from behind the curtains. Her hair was now all around her shoulders and she was holding a towel wrapped around her chest. However, the towel was not very big so it did not cover much. “Eh? Can you really reach it?” “I think so.” Feng Xian calmly said and nodded. Just then, she looked up, “Un? Why did a grip hook fall off here?” Wu… “Who knows?” I smiled stiffly, “I wonder when it dropped.” “It was actually rather st.u.r.dy to begin with… But that doesn’t matter…” She said as she stared at the curtain for several seconds before s.h.i.+fting her gaze to me, “… Xuan De, umm…” “Un? Ah! I got it.” I did not know what she meant at first but then I realised that I had been staring at her and hurriedly turned away, “You can go get it now.” “Un.” Feng Xian said as she stepped out and lifted the pail. … She should have gotten it by now right? “Have you gotten it already?” I asked out of concern. “Un, I got– Wah! *Shararara*–” Feng Xian screamed all of a sudden and various other sounds followed from behind. “Feng Xian, what’s wrong–” I asked as I turned back. I was however rendered speechless by the sight of Feng Xian with all 4 limbs pointed towards the sky. In 1 hand, she held her red inner garments and in the other, she held the curtain that was now completely torn off. And this time, I saw every detail of Feng Xian’s body. Every, detail. My eyes bulged involuntarily and I tried to s.h.i.+ft my gaze away but found that nature was something that was difficult to fight against. — I really don’t know what I would do. Ah. When I remembered these words, I was able to very quickly turn away, “F-Feng Xian! A-are you alright!” “Ah, I’m fine, I just sli–” Feng Xian first began to explain in a pained voice but halfway through, she realised what had happened and hurriedly picked up the cloth that had fallen judging from the sounds she made. “Feng Xian, did you hurt yourself when you fell?” “Ah… Un…” Feng Xian replied in a weird voice that made me feel very afraid, “Xuan De, did you see…” “Ah, no. No, not at all.” I said as I shook my head vigorously. Even if I have to lie, I have to deny it. I do not know what horrible things might happen to me if I tell the truth. “That’s good then.” Feng Xian replied in a relaxed tone. Seems like she very easily believed my words once more, something that only made me feel even more guilty. I think I will tell her the truth at a much later time when this event has become a distant memory. “In any case, Feng Xian should hurry and put on some clothes or you will catch a cold.” “Un.” Feng Xian replied in her normal tone. Looks like Feng Xian was not shaken too much by what had happened. I suppose she does not mind such things that much. Or perhaps she gets over things that have already happened. “Ah… Feng Xian, I’ll be heading off then.” I said as I made to leave. “Xuan De, please wait for a moment.” Feng Xian stopped me yet again and footsteps could be heard as she made her way to the big wooden pail she was bathing in. “… You can go now.” She said a few seconds after she stopped walking. I did not know what she just did and instinctively looked in the direction where she was. Just as I was wondering if this was not right of me, I saw that she had hidden herself behind the wooden pail and was looking over with her eyes just in sight above the rim of the pail. Alright, I retract what I said about her not minding it as much. No matter what, Feng Xian is a girl on the inside. “Well then, take care, Feng Xian.” I bade her farewell and laughed inside, not daring to do so on the outside. “Un, goodbye Xuan De.” I wonder if Feng Xian will risk it and salute while standing as she bids me farewell? Maybe, maybe not. But it’s not like I can turn to look. *w.a.n.g* *w.a.n.g*~ Red Hare looked like it was rather happy as it barked at me and wagged its tail when I reached the entrance. I wonder if it knew how many harrowing moments I had just been through thanks to it. “Red Hare, oh Red Hare. You nearly got me killed.” I said to Red Hare as I squatted down. If it were not for its barks then, none of all this would have happened. However… I would say that it’s an overall positive, I guess. That does not refer to what I have seen, but rather what I have heard. Today, I was able to hear some of Feng Xian’s inner thoughts. Looks like she is rather self-conscious of her image as being a warrior that knows nothing much else. Be it now or in the future, it seems like this is the image of Feng Xian that the world will have. I wonder though, if anyone would ever know that Feng Xian desperately wants/wanted to change this but is/was finding/found it difficult to. Fate has its way of toying with people huh? I thought as I patted Red Hare. Just then, the image of Feng Xian lying on the ground with her naked body exposed popped up in my head again, followed by the incident with Yi De, and then finally what happened with Zhou Cang when I first returned. I do not know why… but these things have been happening frequently of late. “Red Hare, how much of what happened before did you see?” I asked absentmindedly while trying to forget the images in my mind. But Red hare only barked back. I really hope that this can become a secret between Red Hare and I and it never gets exposed. Yun Chang POV “Chen Dao, tell the troops to be careful of the flank here. The frontal battle should be ending by now. Don’t let them spread out and get ambushed by a strike force from the frontal battle enemies.” “Yes!” Chen Dao yelled before running to the troops to relay the order. From my point of view, just hearing the word ‘ambush’ brings great pain and discomfort in my heart. “Hai…” But all I could do was sigh. And I have already done so many times since the battle ended till now. In the end, it does not do much and the discomfort and pain remains just as intensely as ever. Since just now, we met up with Zhao Yun and Chen Dao, who had come to receive us, while on the way back. I felt relieved to see them but my discomfort only grew when I saw them. “Lord Guan Yu, you…” Zhao Yun sighed as she folded her arms across her chest and frowned, her spear hanging behind her horse and her reins sitting in front of her. At this time, only Zhao Yun and I were riding at the head of our combined forces. Zhou Cang and Guan Ping were riding at the back in case any pursuers came. “I was too careless.” I said with my teeth clenched. To be honest, I am very unwilling to admit this but I have no choice, “If we had went by marching through the forest, everything would have been fine. But when I saw that the enemy forces sent to Xinye had pa.s.sed us by, I thought everything was safe and decided to make our troops fast march to Fan city to satiate my impatience.” “You needn’t be so impatient.” Zhao Yun shook her head, her eyebrows still creased tightly, “This is not Lord Guan Yu’s first battle. You and I both know the whats, hows, and whys of a raid. Yet why were you not more careful? Why did you not send more scouts up ahead? Lord Guan Yu’s performance is just like a dumb chick that has just hatched–” When she said this, Zhao Yun took a deep breath as her eyes bulged and released her hands to salute me, “I’m sorry… I just let myself go and…” And your poisonous tongue kicked in huh… Now that I think about it, big brother has often been subject to this. This is my first time though.
