[Saint Doll] Arc 2 Chapter 18 – Varaha

“It” has woken up from a brief sleep that feels like a long slumber.
The world  that it has been gazing upward to in the past since it was born has changed, the trees that looked so tall are now lined up at the height of its line of sight when it’s standing on its four feet.
Then at the bottom of its feet, there’s a cave where it and its parent had been coming in and out from. Right now, the size of the entrance is only as big as its mouth.

“It” is starving.
Before its appearance has changed, before it went to sleep, it has the memory of being angry at something, and also a memory of being afraid at something. However right now, there are only endless hunger inside it. It can’t satisfy its hunger even if it cut down the tree in front of it and swallowed it with one bite. It can’t appease its craving even if it greedily devoured the pig-like creatures which was standing with two legs nearby.

And then “it” notices.
Within a reasonable distance from this place that can only count as a short walk for it right now, there’s something that is made by something of different nature in there. It feels that the lump of meat in that place is something similar with the force of “power” composing its body right now.
It was convinced that it would satisfy its hunger if it devoured it, and thus it started to walk slowly toward that place.

The place where there’s a human village with a barrier that was erected with the same power as “It”.

To Yutarika village.

Three days has pa.s.sed since the evacuation began.
s.h.i.+n has been continuing his daily habit of training during the daytime, and then embracing Yuri at night. In a certain sense, the time for s.h.i.+n to prepare himself is now over and the time to fight against the Disaster Cla.s.s has come.

“Are you prepared for this ?”
Gain asked s.h.i.+n while wielding his battle axe.
It’s fine for you to escape, no, in fact you MUST escape. That is what Gain’s eyes are telling him while he asked his question. But then s.h.i.+n shakes his head slowly.
“I’m not going to lose”
s.h.i.+n quietly clenched his fist. He’s going to win by holding out, he had decided to protect Yuri.
s.h.i.+n had read the materials stored in the guild and he understood just how much of a despair a Disaster Cla.s.s is. However he won’t run away, he can’t run away.
s.h.i.+n had prepared himself and took his step forward.

“I’ll be waiting here at the Pillar. If you win you can use me exclusively for one week”
Shana speak to Gain with obvious anxiety in her voice. During the daytime, Shana had been taking care of the remaining men with her body, and she also had slept with Gain for these past three nights. Shana was being f.u.c.ked even during her mealtime, she even unreasonably accepted it in her womb during excretion. And right now, she’s fulfilling her final duty of standing by the immovable Divine Pillar until the last second.

“I’m going to fight together too!!”
Yuri raises her voice from behind s.h.i.+n. While doing her ch.o.r.es during the daytime and sleeping with s.h.i.+n at night, she told him that she had put her greatest effort in her available time to master the [Gate] spell. She would’ve done it with just a little bit more, however the time has running out. Even so, she’s not going to give up and raised out her determination.

“You must not lose, got it”
And then finally, there’s Fea who is standing on Yuri’s shoulder.
While watching each of them deciding their preparedness, she also had come to her resolution.
s.h.i.+n and Yuri. No matter what is going to happen, she’s going to watch the both of them until the end.

The two warriors then march toward the village gate, and the three people who are left behind are moving toward the place where they need to be.

So that they won’t regret the choice that they make.

Its body are so huge that you need to raise your head to look at it, and the ground are shaking every time it stepped its feet.
Even though the motion of the body itself is slow, the speed of which it was moving are pretty considerable.

For s.h.i.+n who had been living in modern society, the sight in front of him is so unbelievable that he can only describe it as if his school building and the gym are moving.

“This is my first time seeing a Disaster Cla.s.s, but it sure is amazing”
“Yeah”
Gain muttered his disbelief and s.h.i.+n also affirmed it. It’s truly something that deserves to be called disaster, It’s a monster that would destroy its surrounding just by moving its huge mountain-like body. Just from taking a glance at it, one will understand how a wall and barrier won’t have any effect against it. If that thing set eating humans as its objective, then the resulting calamity would be no different than any disaster. s.h.i.+n understood well that it’s an opponent where one could only trembles in fear and wait for what kind of future that will come through.

“We need to hold out until the Artificial G.o.d reinforcement comes”
“Can you do it ?”
But right now, mankind has Artificial G.o.d with them. It was something that wield the power of G.o.d and was created by humans themselves. With 20 of them, they surely would be able to compete against the Disaster Cla.s.s, that’s why they needed to hold out and buy time for them to arrive. For that reason, even if he knows what the answer will be, s.h.i.+n still voiced out his question to Gain.
“Impossible. But if I don’t do it, Shana will die”

Gain is standing with his Battle Axe in his hand. Their current position was located at a few hours away from the village. The sun are at its highest, and if they don’t manage to earn a little bit of time in here, the Disaster Cla.s.s will reached Yutarika village before stopping its activity when the sun set.

“s.h.i.+n, try to use your most powerful move against that thing right now. If it can blow off the head of a Mad Boar, then it should be able to pierce my [Strong Arm] too somehow”
After hearing Gain’s words, s.h.i.+n created an Anti-Material Rifle obediently.
Gain himself told s.h.i.+n to hide his trump card in the past, but he immediately pulled out his strongest firepower now. s.h.i.+n swiftly take his position and looked into the scope.
“With that huge body, I’m sure to hit it without needing to aim”
“I’ll leave it to you”
At the same time s.h.i.+n pulled the trigger, the violent  and destructive power is unleashed against the Varaha. He didn’t exactly aim the gun, but the bullet is flying straight into the s.p.a.ce between the Varaha’s eyes.

Then just before the bullet landed on its target, there was a s.h.i.+ning wall made of light appeared between it, and then the bullet has disappeared to somewhere else.
“As expected… It has a barrier”

The words that Gain uttered sounds like it came far from s.h.i.+n’s ears.

A little while before s.h.i.+n fired his Anti-Material Rifle.

“……It arrived”
Yuri who had her eyes closed and looks like she was meditating are muttering in small voice.
She then opened her eyes and turned her gaze forward at Fea who was floating in front of her.
“You made it !?”
“I have grasped the Seikis.h.i.+n’s hand. I’ll be able to summon it with this!!”
Yuri was struggling with the last part of the procedure.
A [Miko] is connected with a Seikis.h.i.+n through some kind of a link, however the procedure to use said connection were filled with obstacles that she need to overcome. She don’t know how, but she understand that if she cut open through something that was there, then it will work out somehow, so she has been meditating following her gut feeling, and then, Yuri has finally achieved it.

She had grasped where the Seikis.h.i.+n is.
She know how to pull Its hand toward her.
And she also understood how to move It.

Yuri was surprised at the numerous amount of information entering her head at once.
She send a glance toward a building with Divine Pillar erected above it, and then she send her gaze toward the direction where s.h.i.+n is supposed to be fighting.

“s.h.i.+n is still fine!! You’re not going to stand here and wait don’t you ?”
“Of course! I’m going to fight together with s.h.i.+n-chan right now!”
After Fea inquires her, Yuri made her a.s.sertion. She cannot just wait. Now that she has the power, she’s going to jump into the danger herself and stay beside her most important person.

“Alright, I’m going to open the Gate that will lead you to s.h.i.+n!!”
While Fea is spinning her body, she had took out a staff that no one knows where she had pulled it out from.
And then scales, or to be more precise, a particles of light floats from below. Myriad of ivy were raised from the ground and formed a [Gate] large enough for people to pa.s.s through it. Then a moment after its construction, a wall of light appeared in the middle of it.
“If you pa.s.s through here, You’ll arrive at the place where s.h.i.+n is!! Go for it, show us the power of Seikis.h.i.+n!!!!”
“Yes!!”

They can’t come close to it.

Within a range of 1 to 2 meters around the Varaha, there’s an invincible barrier that prevents s.h.i.+n and Gain from doing anything. Even if they could approach closer, s.h.i.+n’s gun can’t pierce through the barrier as was shown by his attempt with the Anti Material Rifle before this, even Gain’s battle axe which was swung in full power with his [Strong Arm] were stopped.
If they were to stop moving, their balance would be thrown off by the small earthquake that happened whenever the Varaha is stomping its feet. And if they shown a gap in their movement, The Varaha is ready to sink its mouth into s.h.i.+n’s body at anytime.
s.h.i.+n had thought of waiting until just a moment where the Varaha would bite into him, then used the time where there’s no barrier to pa.s.s through as a chance to shoot his bullet, however he’s not sure it would be enough to pierce the Varaha. And in the first place, he was in a position where he could barely move a single arm freely.

Stun Grenade worked against it. If s.h.i.+n throw it in front of the Varaha’s eyes, the burst would disable its eyes and ears and stopped its movement for a short period of time. However it would recover soon and they still can’t do anything against the barrier in the meantime.
Things are turning worse after s.h.i.+n repeated it for several times. The Varaha was accustomed to it and would deftly close its eyes and folded its ears whenever it saw the Stun Grenade, and it also recovered in a shorter amount of time compared to before.

Gain had also suggested oil and poison, but they decided against the idea after s.h.i.+n explained his 10 second limit. If they managed to light the oil, the fire should stay even if the oil disappeared, however the forest where they were maneuvering at would burn first before it would affect the Varaha. Poison was even more useless since it would disappear before it effect could appears.

Therefore, s.h.i.+n could only continue throwing the Stun Grenades as long as his energy could permit him. If he thrown it from enough distance, the Varaha wouldn’t be able to notice the coming light, and s.h.i.+n would be able to dealt a little damage that way.
Then while being escorted by Gain and s.h.i.+n had repeated his [Creation] for a few dozen times, he noticed that his dizziness are gradually becoming stronger and shakes his head.

“So it’s the limit already”
“Limit ?”
“The power of Blessing is not infinite. You’re going to lose consciousness after using it for many times in quick succession. Still, I didn’t expect you would manage to last this long s.h.i.+n”
When his dizziness is becoming even more severe, s.h.i.+n explained how to use the Stun Grenade to Gain, and he then concentrates on his creation while leaving the rest to him.
“After you lose your consciousness, I’m going to carry you to the village. There’s a little girl who couldn’t escape there, you should escape with her. I can’t bear to see her being eaten”
“You…can’t be”
s.h.i.+n cannot said anything toward Gain who had spoke indifferently.
He cannot defeat the Varaha.
He cannot take Gain and Shana.
And now he also didn’t have an option to not escape with the girl due to Gain’s words.
When s.h.i.+n had been cornered in all direction and is about to collapse, a myriad of ivy grew from the ground and formed a gate before him.

“What!?”
“This is, [Gate]?”
s.h.i.+n remembered that Fea had tried to use it once to surprise Gain.
Gain had understood the situation immediately after he saw Yuri and Fea appeared from the middle of the light.
“Jou-chan!!”
“What are you doing here !?”
Yuri and Fea smiled and laughed after hearing the two people raises their voices.
“Thanks for waiting!!”
“Sorry I’m late!!”

Then while looking at the Varaha, Yuri p.r.o.nounced it clearly.
“I’m going to fight, with the Seikis.h.i.+n!!”
