"The Far East's sky seems to be happy."
Stabbing the staff I'm so familiar with into the ground, I looked towards the sky in the distance.
The wind of the blessing was heading in the eastern direction, blowing steadily.
"The first new dragon in 250 years, huh."
I'm looking forward to it.
"[Busybody] Alba Gelman."
"What's up?"
I faced forward.
Kneeling in the middle of a wind barrier, it was like she was praying devotedly.
"Um, you're in the way."
"Oh, how heartless. And here I thought I'd go out of my way to show my face as I knew you wouldn't be doing anything, anyway."
"Go out of your way? How pushy. Even though this distance is nothing to you."
I got exposed, huh.
"Ahaha. However, relax. It seems like I've got to go."
"…A dragon child has hatched?"
"Yep. Seems like it. As a dragon expert, I just can't sit still."
In this case, it's not a problem to fly there at the highest speed.
"…Quite a delightful matter. It's hard for us to be born."
"That's because quite a lot of time has pa.s.sed since a pure dragon like the daughter of the queen of the sky was born."
How nostalgic. I wonder if she's doing well.
"Please go. After all, you're an important existence for dragon children."
"Yeah. That's right. I'm indeed the only one."
"Your personality aside, I have faith in your skill. Please, take care of our new compatriot."
This child became quite calm. She used to be such a tomboy when she was small.
"I will. You guys are so big and strong, yet you're very ephemeral."
The world is full of beings intermingling with each other, yet those children never mingle.
No, that's not quite it.
None except for this child.
"Well then, I'll be going. I won't be able to come here for the time being."
"U-um…"
It seemed like she still had something to say. It's okay. I understand.
"Don't worry, I'll properly come to keep you updated. I won't be able to come as often anymore, though."
"…T-thank you. Alba Gelman."
"Like I'm saying, I'll do my best."
Large tears started to flow from her pretty eyes as she lowered her head. However, she still maintained her position.
"I'm a friend of the dragons. Even if the whole world came to hate you, I would still continue to save dragons. After all, that's what gives my life significance."
With a laugh, I turned around.
To be honest, I feel rather reluctant to leave. This child works harder than any other dragon.
If possible, I'd rather stay by her side all the time.
"Alba Gelman-shama! You've come back!" [TL/N: It's -sama. Children-like speech… spent over ten minutes looking for honorific that didn't exist before I realized lol…]
"Yo, [Busybody]! Hildegardsama is doing okay, right?!"
"Why, of course she's doing excellent. Maybe it's thanks to you [Fairies]? Please continue taking care of that child from now on too."
Two small, small fairies flew out just as I was about to leave.
"Pleashe leave it to us.h.!.+ An ish Hildegardshama'sh fairy, after all!"
"M-me too! I'm Hildegardsama's first fairy!"
It was also thanks to them that she got better. I know I can rely on them.
"I won't be coming for some time, but don't worry. After all, I'll know it if something happens."
"You're a curious rat, after all!"
"Lock! You're being rude to Alba Gelman-shama!"
No such thing. I'm indeed a member of the long-haired rat race, and I'm indeed an embodiment of curiosity.
"Don't mind it, Anmira, Lockhilt. I'm leaving Hilda to you."
As I told them so, I approached the temple's entrance, seen off with a polite response and a cheeky reply.
Pa.s.sing through the entrance, I found myself standing in a thick forest.
The location of my objective is pretty far, but this is hardly a problem for me.
After all, it's impossible to separate my old self from dragons.
"Please wait for me, new dragon child. I'm coming."
I hit the ground loudly twice with my staff. With my body floating in the air, I climbed upwards.
"I'm the dragons' guardian! The dwarf Alba Gelman!"
[TL/N: Nope, not dwarf as in short guy with a beard that likes axes and beer and blacksmithing, just short guy… not sure what the author's on about, after all, it's already said that he's some rat race]The s.p.a.ce-time was distorted as I caused the sky and its boundary to become fuzzy—I've reduced the distance to my goal.
What I'm using is the only power I mastered. I've learned it only to be able to come to a dragon's side—it is my pride.
"Your… unconditional ally!"
And thus, I surpa.s.sed a speed nearing that of light.
