Tests.
It is what students hate the most.
Once testing season has come, it's necessary to study whether you want to or not in order to review the content that has been learned. Because of this, it is common for people to pull all-nighters.
Currently, I was being overwhelmed by one of these tests. At our school, our tests are divided into 8 subjects over 3 days, 2 tests on the first day and 3 tests on the other 2 days.
I don't have much problem with non-humanities subjects like math, physics, and other science subjects, however, I'm not too great at subjects like English, historical literature, modern literature, and history.
First of all, I'm not really good at memorization. Trying to remember just 10 English vocabulary words already eats up a lot of my time. Today's tests are history and modern literature, subjects that I don't do well in. Yesterday I did a lot of studying, but to be honest, I can't really see myself answering the questions properly.
There is a possibility that I will fail. I had that doubt within me, and of course, I also studied on the train. As usual, Kii-san was sitting next to me without worry. As far as I can tell, Kii-san has done no studying at all. She hasn't done anything at all.
I only heard this from rumors, but it seems Kii-san is really smart. Even if she isn't studying on the train, she will probably be fine. While envying Kii-san, I let go of the history textbook I'm holding.
Really, trying to memorize like this sucks. If only there was an easier way to memorize material… As I was having these kinds of thoughts, Kii-san, who was next to me, began to speak.
"Yos.h.i.+ki-kun, are you studying?"
"Well, just a little bit. Today's test will be hard…"
She took a peek at the textbook my textbook. She's probably thinking I'm stupid, not even understanding something so simple. However, her reply was very different from what I expected.
"I know right! History is really hard~. I'm also not that great at it~"
"…is that so? That's a little unexpected."
"I always have to try super hard when I'm studying~"
Despite that, she looks really confident…
"Then I'm guessing that your scores aren't that great either?"
"Yeah~, though I don't think it's that bad. I do get over a 90 everytime."
"Eh?"
I couldn't hide my surprise at her words. History is said to be one of the hardest subjects that the second years take.
The teacher that gives out the questions is really harsh. The questions he gives are always on things that are barely written in the textbook, and his averages are all supposed to fall below a failing grade. Every year, students always have to retake the subject, and there are also those students that are held back a full year because of it.
Getting over a 90 in a subject like that, you would have to be abnormal. Why is she saying that she's bad at it? It has to be one of her better subjects. By the way, my score is usual in the 40's.
"W-well, I guess that's bad? Umm, would you mind telling me how exactly you end up studying?"
Suddenly coming up with an idea, I decided to ask her this. I should learn from the people that know how to study for the test. If I find out how people with high scores do it, it might not be that far of a dream to also raise my own score.
"Yeah, I guess that's alright… There are two conditions though."
"Conditions?"
"Yes. First, stop with the polite speech. Second, if your score ends up improving since I helped you, go out with me for a whole entire day."
After the test? A whole day with Kii-san…? Somehow, it sounds like a date. Well, if this is what it takes for me to raise my score it will be fine. As for the polite speech, well, it's not like I can't stop.
"Yeah, I understand. That's alri… fine."
"Great! Then starting from this page. Over here…"
Then, for the rest of the time we were on the train, Kii-san taught me how to answer the questions. She not only helped me with history but with other subjects as well.
And the results from my tests this time around… Amazing. They're all above 70.
It's normal for all my non-humanities tests to be above 80, but I was also able to get English and history, both of which are my bad subjects, way above average.
The reason for this improvement is clear as a day. Anyways, I need to give her my thanks so I open my smartphone. After all, we did exchange phone numbers. Well, we haven't said anything to each other yet.
"Um, about the test, I was able to improve my score because of you. Thank you."
For now, I'll send her a text like this. Recently, I've become used to using non-polite speech, and it has become more natural for me. After sending it, Kii-san's reply came back immediately.
"That's great! Congrats! As promised, this Sunday, go out with me!"
I could feel the excitement from just reading the text. Well, she really did help me a lot this time around, I'll give her my day.
Actually, I am looking forward to it quite a bit myself..
It would be weird if you weren't happy to go out with a beautiful (though slightly weird) girl like her.
Though… um, what type of clothes should I go in?
A new worry came up.
