The change came too suddenly. Jun YanZhi's face swelled up, turning purple. Looking at the man in front of him, he seemed to be very puzzled and angry.
Xi Fang's gaze was extremely complicated. It was almost as if he wanted to kill him, but he hesitated. The decision to kill or not to kill could be made in a single moment. Xi Fang's hand tightened again. His five fingers pressed on Jun YanZhi's throat.
"Sect, sect head!" Jun YanZhi incoherently wheezed out. With much difficulty, he continued to talk, "I, can't run or, go, anywhere!"
The sentence seemed to be a little useful. Xi Fang hesitated for a long time before he finally let go of Jun YanZhi. His eyes contained suspicion, cautiousness, and a bit of regret: "How were you able to save peak master Zhao the second time around?"
Jun YanZhi felt his throat and coughed for some time before returning to his originally gentle and elegant appearance. His face, however, was still red. He calmly replied: "There was not enough time, the first time. I couldn't save him. During the second time around, there was more time for treatment and luckily he was saved."
"That's the only reason?"
"Yes." Jun YanZhi's tone of voice seemed to be very dry and dissatisfied, "Disciple doesn't dare say that the sect owes disciple, but at the very least, disciple hasn't done anything wrong. For what reason is sect head treating me as such, testing my cultivation level again and again? Just why?"
Xi Fang slowly put away the Yi Ming sword. He didn't answer the question. Instead, he asked another question: "YanZhi, do you still remember the things from when you were a child?"
Jun YanZhi lowered his head and didn't answer. A sour and painful feeling slowly spread throughout his whole body as if he was being slowly compressed. There were no visible traces on the skin, but it seemed to crush his bones one by one.
"I don't remember……" Jun YanZhi whispered.
Why did Xi Fang suddenly ask him about this? Did he know something?
Xi Fang watched him and slowly said: "It's already a thing of the past. Whether you remember or not, it doesn't matter. YanZhi, I've watched you grow up. I know that your nature is kind. Now the demonic cultivator is wreaking havoc. You've actually inherited the《Hundred Herbs Thousand Souls Method》and are about to receive the Yi Ming sword and《Ku Mu Sword Method》which are the pillars of my Qing Xu Sword sect. I don't care what kind of past you had. However, if one day you were to hurt the sect, I would not show any mercy. Do you understand?"
Jun YanZhi hung his head: "Sect head knows of disciple's childhood?"
Xi Fang looked at him and gently threw Yi Ming sword's box into his arms: "I only know that you are an orphan and nothing else. What was in the past has already pa.s.sed. There's no need to think about it."
He slowly walked out of Flying Immortal tower. His expression had already returned to normal: "The second floor contains ten of the higher level techniques. Take three and properly cultivate."
The summer pa.s.sed, and winter came. In a flash, half a year had already gone by.
Nothing major happened within the six months. Hui s.h.i.+ peak's relations.h.i.+p with Tian Heng peak and Hong Xiu peak finally soothed. Wen Jing was in close door cultivation. There was no news from him. Hong Xiu peak's Zhao NingTian though finally woke up. This short fatty loved his reputation and pride. Thus, because he had some enmity with Jun YanZhi in the past, even after learning that he was saved by Jun YanZhi, he still put up a front, refusing to express grat.i.tude. Jun YanZhi, on the other hand, didn't care at all. Instead, it was Zhao NingTian who made trouble until his face was red, and finally said a "This favor of saving my life, I will never forget it this lifetime."
Since he had received the 《Ku Mu Sword Method》, Jun YanZhi spent most of his time on practicing the sword. As expected, the sword method was fierce. Jun YanZhi had only touched upon the outermost layer and was already stunned by the power of the sword method. It indeed conflicted with his nature and temperament. When he was practicing the method, it was painful to the extreme. He almost destroyed his own Dantian[1]. Luckily, the《Meeting Spring Technique》had a soothing effect and could help alleviate it. Jun YanZhi didn't dare to be lax with his cultivation, finally entering the first level.
Winter had always been the most difficult to cope through, and this year he also had to go through it all alone. Jun YanZhi had countless things to consider as well. He went down the mountain numerous times. The time flew by and in the blink of an eye it was already April.
In early April, He Ling came out of closed-door cultivation. Liu QianMo asked him when Wen Jing would come out. He Ling replied with a single phrase: "I don't know."
Jun YanZhi bit his lips and didn't make a sound.
Another month pa.s.sed. The interpeak compet.i.tion that was interrupted last year was continuing again this year, but Wen Jing still didn't come out of closed-door cultivation. It looked like Wen Jing was to forfeit.
Jun YanZhi didn't take it seriously. Afterall, Wen Jing was too simple and pure. He shouldn't know many things in the first place. As long as he stupidly helped him warm the bed, then that would be enough. Being in closed-door cultivation for another few years was also a good thing. By then, he would be finished with all of his things. He could then wholeheartedly concentrate on him and capture him.
On the first day of June, the first round of the interpeak compet.i.tion officially started. Jun YanZhi had a bye in the first round. He was just planning to go and watch He Ling, but inexplicably saw a familiar yet unfamiliar figure on the platform for Qi Refining disciples.
He came out of closed-door cultivation. Jun YanZhi hadn't seen him in a year. He seemed to have grown a bit taller again……
Wen Jing already had a bit of a young adult feel, tall and well-proportioned. He looked very refres.h.i.+ng. Maybe he had just bathed. Jun YanZhi lightly gazed at him and felt that the blood in his whole body was rus.h.i.+ng downward. Hastily, he suppressed it without a change in his expression.
Wen Jing carried the "sc.r.a.p iron" that he'd used to practice as the sword in the past year in his hand while watching the opponent on the platform with concentration. This was the so-called enemies meeting on a narrow road. Those who did not want to meet were always easy to meet and unavoidable. The opponent was third-ranked among the Tian Heng peak's Qi Refining disciples. Last year, within one move he beat Wen Jing down, crawling, without the slightest bit of extra movement.
That disciple obviously felt Wen Jing's cultivation at the late stage or thirteenth level of Qi Refining. His pupils shrunk. He was restless like a provoked hawk.
He Ling had shown up at sometime beside Jun YanZhi, closely observing.
Jun YanZhi: "Last year, he was still only at the eleventh level of Qi Refining. In a single year, he raised two levels."
"En. He was focused."
Jun YanZhi's heart slightly sunk. It was not easy to able to make He Ling say the word "focused."
He felt bitter in his heart. He tried to adjust his mentality. If Wen Jing could focus on cultivating, that was also good. Wen Jing didn't have to put all his thoughts on him……
There were basically no middle stage Qi Refining disciples that practiced the sword. Wen Jing carried his big and ugly "sc.r.a.p iron." It seemed a bit comical and attracted many people's gazes.
Even if a Qi Refining disciple could use the sword, to be able to swing it would already be considered pretty good. Could this boy actually have any skills?
With the sound of the gong, the compet.i.tion started.
The Tian Heng peak disciple gripped four strokes of spiritual energy that were as sharp as a blade and threw them towards Wen Jing, one streak after another. It was difficult to keep track. As a water spirit root, this disciple prioritized speed and gracefulness. His movements were very quick and agile. For now, let's not talk about the strength of the spiritual energy swords, just the speed was the fastest of all the Tian Heng peak Qi Refining disciples.
Wen Jing was neither panicked nor rushed. He used his sword Qi and swung the "sc.r.a.p iron."
The sword Qi swept over in a flas.h.!.+
Everyone started yelling like an exploded pot.
"What did I just see? Am I dreaming?"
"It was just a swing of the sword. How could there be this kind of sword Qi? This isn't even an actual technique or move, right?"
With a few violent collision sounds, the sword Qi easily scattered the spiritual energy swords that were flying over. That disciple was dazed. He stood in one place not knowing what to do.
When Wen Jing was about to swing another time, that disciple suddenly flew off the platform: "I'm not fighting anymore!"
The referee disciple: "Hui s.h.i.+ peak's Wen Jing wins!"
The people watching started to become noisy.
"Kid, do another move! Don't just swing the sword anymore. Use an actual sword technique!"
"The most basic sword technique is okay too! Hurry up!"
"Not even Foundation Building disciple would necessarily have this kind of sword Qi ah! Hurry up! Hurry up! Let us see something amazing!"
The noise around the platform moved Wen Jing a little. He had just practiced the sword for a year. Most of the year was spent swinging the sword. His actual sword technique wasn't good enough to be used on the platform. After swinging 50,000 times, Duan Xuan taught him a basic sword technique. However, he always felt that he hadn't mastered swinging the sword yet, and that the power could be stronger. He secretly swung another 70,000 or 80,000 times before he felt some slight accomplishment in swinging the sword and started practicing the sword technique.
Wen Jing didn't respond. Instead, under everyone's discussions and yelling, he jumped off the platform. With a glance, he saw Jun YanZhi and He Ling standing together far away, smiling towards him. His head seemed to have been pierced with a sword, and he was stunned.
The things that he had done to Jun YanZhi a year ago played through his mind like a movie, clearly and distinctly, shouting and calling out his unsightly misdeed. Thinking back now, last year he didn't take any responsibility. He ran away right after eating.
Wen Jing came in front of Jun YanZhi with his head hanging and quietly said: "Second s.h.i.+xiong, fourth s.h.i.+xiong."
With a closer look, Wen Jing was more handsome than last year. His black hair was dripping with water. It didn't seem like sweat. Rather, it was more like the traces of moistness from bathing that hadn't dried yet, landing on the face and then slipping down next to the mouth. Jun YanZhi's entire body was covered in a thin layer of sweat as if he had lost control, yet he gently and elegantly said: "That sword swing has already reached a state of perfection."
When Wen Jing heard that familiar and gentle voice, his heart felt sour. He finally loosened up. Jun s.h.i.+xiong was a modest gentleman. Look, he was going to pretend that the incident last year didn't happen and leave him a way out.
Footnotes:
[1] For those who forgot. The dantian is a place to store your spiritual energy and normally where you're Qi was condensed into a ball of gas, liquid, or golden core.
On the same note, here's some extra information: Qi Refining is the ball of gas. Foundation Building is the liquid, and Golden Core is golden core. Basically, the three stages of an element, gas, liquid, and solid.
Tn: Yay! We are halfway through!
See our little Wen Jing is very powerful too! <( ̄ˇ ̄)>( ̄ˇ ̄)>
