Variants were unique existences that should not be judged by normal standards. Although they were inferior to Lord-types of the same species, they did in fact possess innate talents and skills which may prove to be more formidable than Lord Types!
The Dark Octopus before him was of tentacle monster descent and it was definitely a rarity amongst rarities!
Arguably, Dark Octopus did not possess much offensive prowess. Instead, it focused mainly on suppressing its foes which, when coupled with the aggressiveness of a tentacle monster, would make for an unpredictable combat style.
Li Jiayu was initially worried about depending on the Higher First Tiered Dark Octopus, but it seemed this monster may now have several more aces up its less-than-human sleeve that had yet to be revealed. Li Jiayu guessed roughly that its fighting prowess might not be worse than a Lower Second Tiered monster!
‘Well, although we won the war, why does my heart feel strange…’
Li Jiayu had, after all, once been an ill.u.s.trious, renowned figure whose legends spread so far and wide, they left his enemies scampering away for dear life... Despite having gone through a rebirth, how on earth did he manage to conjure such a despicable beast that regarded the soiled undergarments of women as treasure...
The Li Jiayu in the past had committed many wrongdoings and caused suffering to many but never had he done such a wretched and lowlife act. He dared not claim to not have been a scourge toward women but the numbers would definitely not have exceeded the fingers on one hand. Li Jiayu was a gentleman compared to the authoritarian tyrants, so how was it possible for the Dark Octopus to be related to him?
‘It's an accident. It definitely has to be an accident!’
While Li Jiayu was ruminating deeply, a fragrant scent wafted into his nostrils as a figure crashed into his embrace. The person cried large puddles of tears without regard for the pair of b.r.e.a.s.t.s that rubbed continuously against his chest. The softness and elasticity of the b.r.e.a.s.t.s made him stiffen in shock.Surprisingly, this woman was Sun Weiwei!
"Hey! Let go of me! Stop hugging me—it hurts!"Were it not for the fact that he could not muster any strength, he would have pushed her away. In his recollection, Sun Weiwei was a rather scheming woman. Who knew if she had a motive behind her actions? Maybe she had already planned to use her beauty to turn him into a submissive protector of flowers?
‘Dream on!’
"Sorry for hurting you, I was too excited..."Sun Weiwei released Li Jiayu. Her face was suffused with a tinge of red as she avoided his gaze.
"The insects were terrifying... I- I couldn't help myself..."
"Nonsense! In the face of unfamiliar monsters, anyone who saw it would obviously be terror-stricken. The timid ones would even wet themselves..."
Li Jiayu spoke casually and turned abruptly to look at Sun Weiwei. "Are you out of your mind? The Scythe Beetle Lord was obviously charging at me, so why did you risk yourself to get its attention? Do you know how dangerous that was? Had I not been lucky enough, I'm afraid you'd have been torn to pieces. Whether or not you're a beauty, you'd be turned into an ugly slab of shredded meat!"
"I got reckless because I didn't want you to get hurt..." Sun Weiwei looked at Li Jiayu timidly as she hesitantly revealed her intentions.
"Stupid woman! See if I care if this happens again!"
Li Jiayu sighed. Sun Weiwei had done it for his sake after all. It would be inappropriate if he kept clinging on this matter. Time was pressing and he was too lazy to be entangled with her on this matter.
The students next to them watched and listened to the dialogue exchanged between the two. Some revealed annoyance while others looked on with ridicule and disdain at how Sun Weiwei helped Li Jiayu at this point of time. Especially the female students, they displayed jealousy and envy at how she seduced him so blatantly!
"Jiayu, there's blood on your face, your arm as well. Here, I have a band-aid, paste it over your wound. My heart aches looking at you like this..."
Han Xiaoqi went to Li Jiayu’s side as she handed over some bandages, gazing fixedly at him. His face looked pale and his hair was disheveled but his appearance today seemed unique, with a certain heroic aura about him. Coupled with the bloodstains on his pale face, he rendered Han Xiaoqi unable to move her fiery gaze away from him.
"There's no need for bandages. During these current times, there will be more wounds in the upcoming battle..."
Li Jiayu declined Han Xiaoqi's kindness and turned his head away to look at the two dismembered corpses of his cla.s.smates. Just a minute ago, they had still been living humans. Although he had only spent a brief, one-year period with these people, the apocalypse was cruel and tragic deaths numbered tens of thousands every day. Li Jiayu was already accustomed to it but witnessing these deaths once more, he could not help but feel a little emotional...
Various students followed his line of sight and gazed quietly at the corpses with mixed feelings: some shed tears in silence while others clutched their mouths and stomachs; and some had hollow eyes, whereas others kneeled indignantly before the bodies, letting out a bellow.
"Impossible! Ah Xiang! How could you die here?! We just made an appointment to play DOTA at the dormitory tonight. Didn't you say you would abuse me in the game? I'll let you do as you please! Stop playing dead. I don't believe that you'd go like this. The several hundred dollars you owed me is called off. I don't want it anymore, just treat it as your wedding gift in advance... Please wake up... Wuwu..."
Within the bubble of peace and prosperity, people tended to be emotional, especially during the beginning of the apocalypse. They would even shed tears for a friend but as time progressed, their once emotional hearts would inevitably turn cold, or rather, stronger and firmer.
"Coward... Chen Qinian, crying does not solve any problems. If you really wish to do something for your fallen comrades, wipe your tears and change your att.i.tude. Pick up your weapons and fight against the creatures that caused this! You may not be able to handle the Crimson Crowned Beetle but not the sulfate insects and the Venomous Spiders—you'll have plenty opportunity to kill them!"
Li Jiayu patted his shoulder that was dyed with blood. At this moment in time, there was nothing he could do other than give a word of encouragement. If it had been the former Li Jiayu, he would have had the ability to piece the corpses together and turn them into war puppets. However, the current Li Jiayu was not corrupted by darkness and, hence, was unable to perform these acts.
Turning friends into war puppets would seem unacceptable and might cause the people around him to distance themselves in fear.
"You’re right! My tears aren't cheap. I want revenge for Ah Xiang! Insects, insects, these darned insects! I have to kill at least 10 of them before I die and bury them along with Ah Xiang!"
Chen Qinian awkwardly pried himself off the ground and wiped his tears with a sleeve, shouting with gritted teeth. The boys next to them more or less agreed that in the face of a swarm of insects, escaping would not solve the problem.
Lin Zhibin and Zhou Jiamin exchanged a complex glance. According to Li Jiayu, the latter was supposed to have been killed, while the former should have had his arm amputated by the vicious insects. In the end, everything had changed. The two students had replaced them and that caused them to be at a loss. They did not know what to say...
In the apocalypse, danger lurked in wait at all times. One never knew if they might survive the moment. Even if they did survive today, would they live to witness the daylight of tomorrow?
Within the dimly lit cla.s.sroom, a somber atmosphere lingered in the blood-scented air as grieving students sobbed in silence, all of which intertwined into a c.o.c.ktail of misery.
"Stop being depressed over useless matters... Rather than grieving for the fallen cla.s.smates, you might as well think about how to survive this disaster! Humans have potential and it usually reveals itself during dire straits! Think about it. You must've watched video clips of fights and martial arts tutorials. Now is the time to put them to use!"
Li Jiayu shouted, handing his axe over to Lin Zhibin, "This is a sharp axe, take it. Apart from me, you are the bravest in the cla.s.s. I hope you'll use this axe to protect your loved ones and your cherished friends."
Lin Zhibin was stunned. "Why? You should use it. I don't have the knowledge to wield these weapons... I do not possess skills like yours..."
"I am weak, so I use technique to make up for that deficiency... You are physically stronger. You'll probably be able to drop 10 insects with ease even without any sort of technique. Swing it when you see an opening and you'll be fine..."
"Uh... What about you?"
"Me? I'm bleeding too much. I feel a little dizzy at the moment and can't handle the axe... But I still have my ways!"
"Okay... Thank you for the weapon, I will not disappoint you."Lin Zhibin solemnly took the fire axe and looked gratefully at Li Jiayu. He did not know how or why but this sissy, whom he had hated in the past, made a sense of admiration rise within him, as though he was a foot soldier meeting a general.
If anyone in the past had said they would bow before Li Jiayu, they would have had their mouth ripped open. In this instance, however, Li Jiayu was a real man and Lin Zhibin only had one word to describe what he felt for him—admiration!
"En, I hope so. Don't die too easily."Li Jiayu nodded faintly then turned toward the Scythe Beetle Lord's carca.s.s.Since a Lord-type corpse contained an abundant amount of power, it was indeed the best ingredient for a sacrifice!
The Scythe Beetle Lord already had its brain dredges drained and its insect core plundered. So, inevitably, its value had fallen. However, it was still superior to an ordinary Scythe Beetle. If one used it for summoning, the effect would be at least three times higher!
In other words, he would be able to call forth a Second Tier summon and if he was lucky, even a Middle Second Tier summon would be possible! A Middle Second Tier summon would be better than the Dark Octopus and if the two combined their prowess, Li Jiayu felt confident he could destroy all the Crimson Crowned Beetles in his path!
"It smells good... Tastes good... Fun... I need more stockings..."All of a sudden, the Dark Octopus, who was engrossed in its own world, spoke in the human language. "I... I want... More stockings, give me more... I- I'll get excited... Get more powerful... If nice-looking creatures pee on my head directly... Even better..."
"What?!"Upon hearing its words, Li Jiayu rolled his eyes. Staring oddly at the Dark Octopus, who brought him nothing but disgrace, he yelled,
"Do not ever tell anyone that you're my summon! You disgusting creature. Oh, my G.o.d. My honor as a summoner is ruined by you!"
