Chapter 278 Jianan, Did You do It Intentionally?
Su Jianan grimaced.
Could she say, it was because the scandals of Han Ruoxi and Lu Boyan were swirling back then? She thought they had really gotten together, and was in an extremely bad mood, even to the points she was on the verge of depair.
So when she saw in the outline, a question like “Does a female medical examiner’s views on life and marriage differ from the average girl? Would this occupation bring you any issues in finding a partner?”, she only replied:
I have no plans to get married.
Back then, she indeed did not want to get married. She had a job she loved and could feed herself with, family and friends for companions.h.i.+p, and she was happy when having alone time. Marriage… if it were not with Lu Boyan, then it seemed to be unnecessary in any case.
If she knew about her current life, she would have confessed to Lu Boyan in that interview…
Su Jianan concealed her flurry of emotional activity well. Just in the next instance, she had already thought of how to respond to the journalist’s incisive question—
She leaned towards Lu Boyan. “Oh. At that point, I thought someone didn’t want me!”
It was a sweet reprimand, or rather, she was acting flirty. Lu Boyan very naturally pulled Su Jianan into his embrace with a smile, and the romantic indulgence of his actions would make the romance-yearning singles envious.
Su Jianan was incredibly casual with her answer, which helped the chief editor to relax. She pointed to the cookies on the coffee table, “Mrs. Lu, the auntie told me just now that you had baked these in the morning. Is baking your hobby? Or is it because Mr. Lu likes eating snacks?”
“Um… actually he doesn’t like them at all.” Su Jianan glanced at Lu Boyan. “But it indeed is my hobby. I will surely conquer him one day!”
Su Jianan must be the only person who dared to say she would conquer Lu Boyan, right?
The chief editor’s sharp eyes caught a flash of amus.e.m.e.nt in Lu Boyan’s eyes. His gaze turned soft and fond, which was a totally different person from the cold-blooded and callous Lu Boyan often heard about.
She smiled, and ended the interview, “I had tasted them just now. It’s not flattery, Mrs. Lu, the cookies you baked are much nicer than the ones sold at bakeries. Mr. Lu will definitely fall in love with them!”
After sending the chief editor and journalist off, Aunt Liu packed two containers of Su Jianan’s cookies for them respectively, and said that Su Jianan had ordered her to do so.
After giving thanks and getting onto the car, the female journalist let her mind wander. She asked, “Chief editor, do you think Lu Boyan and Su Jianan are really that blissful? “Could it be like how it’s written in novels, they are pretending to be happily in love but actually have separate love lives?”
“Are you trying to say that their marriage is purely political, without any foundation of love?”
“Yes yes yes!” The journalist nodded violently. “Chief editor you are so wise! That is exactly what I mean!”
“Oh you, you’re still too young after all.” The chief editor poked the journalist’s forehead. “First, Lu Boyan does not need tricks like political marriages to strengthen his career. Secondly, their blissfulness isn’t faked. You can make counterfeits of many things from eggs to cash, but love can’t be faked. If you had been observant enough just then, you would have been able to tell that Su Jianan is very reliant on Lu Boyan, and Lu Boyan is also willing and happy to let her rely on him. He is very fond of her. Your idol Queen Han has no hope.”
The female journalist got upset. “Just you wait! Who knows if the tables might turn! This aside, I’m really looking forward to tomorrow night!”
There was going to be a c.o.c.ktail party the next night, to be held at a mansion in the suburbs as part of the magazine’s prelaunch.
Guests invited to the party were interviewees of the debut issue, along with a number of other figures of the business and fas.h.i.+on world. The place was already swarmed with journalists, as they had received the news that Han Ruoxi and Su Jianan would be appearing that night, at the same event for the second time.
Previously at the anniversary party of Lu Enterprises, both of them ended up wearing the same outfit coincidentally. Han Ruoxi was met with such a failure at her dressing for the first time, and ended up lying low in America for a few months until the buzz died down.
It was said that, Han Ruoxi’s team was extra careful that time. They had begun choosing outfits, customising her accessories and decided on makeup and styling since very early on, and were bent on making her triumph beautifully!
Meanwhile, Su Jianan was at home, feeling troubled while facing a wardrobe of gowns.
She realised only recently that, Lu Boyan and Su Yicheng both had an interest in common—buying clothes for her.
Su Yicheng liked to buy her whatever he saw which looked nice. Lu Boyan liked to find people to custom-make clothes for her. The designer’s elaborate designs could only be used once, and tailored according to her measurements. He said that, being so, there would be no need to worry about ending up wearing the same outfit as others, and his wife should wear clothes which were one of a kind in the world!
Therefore, every now and then, there would be new clothing sent over. Soon, the s.p.a.ce in the wardrobe was running out before she was aware of it. Su Jianan was overwhelmed, and could not decide on what to wear.
It was unknown when Lu Boyan had entered the room. He picked a knee-length light pink dress, and handed it to Su Jianan, prompting her to put it on.
Su Jianan blinked, “Why this?” To be honest, she was not very fond of pink clothing.
Lu Boyan said matter-of-factly, “I’ve been imagining how you would look like in this dress. Wear it for me.”
Her face was warming up, but Su Jianan did as she was told and changed into the dress. She made a twirl before Lu Boyan, and asked in antic.i.p.ation, “How is it?”
She had a naturally fair complexion, so the pink had further emphasized her dewy skin. Her slender calves were revealed; her ankles looked so delicate and frail, that they would evoke an urge in anyone to protect and care for her.
Pink hues often reminded anyone of youth. Su Jianan had always resembled a student who had walked out from a university campus anyway. And dressing like that made her appear even more tender and innocent. If she did not show her marriage certificate, perhaps n.o.body would even believe that she was married.
Lu Boyan’s Adam’s apple twitched. In the next instance, he took out a long, conservative-looking sky blue dress from the wardrobe. “Change.”
Su Jianan was clueless. “Why?” She did not like pink clothing, but it did not… look bad on her.
Lu Boyan escaped her gaze, and demanded in an almost unreasonable tone, “No whys! Change!”
Su Jianan stared at him, vaguely making sense of the situation. She said with a smirk, “I won’t change! I will wear just this!”
She dared not to listen to him?
Lu Boyan squinted with an air of threat. His gaze laid upon her red and tender lips and her fair collarbones. Every part was seduction. In an instance of desire, he had already lowered his head to kiss her.
“Unf…” Su Jianan was instantly pressed onto the closet door, unable to escape. A familiar breath of the man had enveloped her. She was slowly losing her mind in his kiss…
An unrestrained Lu Boyan savored every inch of her tender goodness, and had unknowingly, quietly reached the zipper of her dress. “Let’s forget about going, ok?”
His kiss and his actions… they could not be more obvious.
Su Jianan grabbed onto Lu Boyan’s necktie, her smile so innocent and coy. “But you’ve promised other people that you will be attending tonight.”
Lu Boyan’s eyes predictably grew darker. His breathing got distinctly heavier. With a feeling intertwined with love and resentment, he bit Su Jianan’s lips, and pressed his voice. “You did it intentionally.”
Su Jianan released his necktie, her face was only left with a look of innocence. “What was intentional? I am going to do my makeup!”
After that, she escaped to her dressing table. From the mirror, she could see that Lu Boyan’s face was filled with a dangerous, possessive look. She made a mental note to herself that she would be in trouble today…
When Su Jianan was done with her makeup, it was just in time. The couple departed from their house. It took a half an hour car ride until stopping before the gates to a mansion which could be described as resplendent and majestic.
It was apparent that the mansion was meticulously embellished inside out. At the entrance stood tall and handsome servers. Due to the cold weather, the party was being held inside the mansion, but the garden was still beautifully, atmospherically lit. The interior of the mansion was brightly lit; melodious music filled the air constantly, accompanied with bouts of laughter and chatter.
The server jogged over to open the car for Su Jianan. She got off the car holding onto Lu Boyan’s hand. A breeze of cold wind blew over; she could not help but shudder.
Lu Boyan helped to wrap Su Jianan’s coat tightly around her. That scene was captured by photographers, and instantly, numerous journalists approached—
“Eh? Mrs. Lu, your gown is really gorgeous. It doesn’t seem like there is such a piece in the market. Was it specially custom-ordered for you by Mr. Lu?”
“Mrs. Lu, your style today is rather different from the past. Is it because Mr. Lu likes you dressing this way?”
Su Jianan was so cold she could barely speak, only tightly holding onto the collar of her coat, preventing the wind from getting in. Lu Boyan hugged her, unable to break out from the crowd.
They were only able to enter the mansion after Shen Yuechuan came over with security guards.
As she was handing her coat to a server, Su Jianan heard a cry from outside, “Han Ruoxi is here!”
Su Jianan subconsciously cast her gaze outside. An Audi stopped outside the mansion. An extravagantly dressed Han Ruoxi got off the car daintily, and was surrounded by journalists and cameras in an instant. She tugged onto the black coat draped over her shoulders, and patiently answered the journalists’ questions one by one.
Su Jianan only had one question: Despite her strong aura, being merely draped with a coat should hardly s.h.i.+eld anyone from the strong wind. Does Han Ruoxi… not feel cold?
Oh celebrities, they were indeed special, different from normal people.
Shen Yuechuan whistled at Su Jianan in an attempt to have her attention back. He surveyed her. “Very pretty.” There was a degree of frivolousness resembling those of the n.o.ble young masters in his tone.
As expected, Lu Boyan’s chilling glare shot over instantly. A wise Shen Yuechuan chose to run away. Otherwise, G.o.d knows whether he might be exiled somewhere by Lu Boyan to become a coolie.
A young man walked over, thanking Su Jianan for accepting their magazine interview. Su Jianan remembered that his surname was Tang, and had played matches with Lu Boyan before. She could not remember anything more about him, but she still greeted him warmly, and said ‘don’t mention it’.
“I can’t not be grateful.” Tang Ming said, “If not for your willingness, I don’t think I would be able to get the great President Lu to agree. Ah, you make yourselves at home. I will go greet the media.”
The media had all streamed in along with Han Ruoxi.
Su Jianan did not have the chance to take a good look just then, but at the moment she could see Han Ruoxi adorned in a luxurious blue dress which reached the ground. It was a s.e.xy yet elegant design, perfectly emphasizing Han Ruoxi’s beautiful figure yet not being overtly revealing. Her burgundy curls had been meticulously styled. When she walked in, her sight did not falter, and only nodded and smiled when she saw her acquaintances. So n.o.ble and distant.
Su Jianan had to admit, Han Ruoxi really looked like a regal queen of ancient Europe. The way she looked at people was like looking down disdainfully upon the peasantly mortals.
Among the people she knew, probably only Luo Xiaoxi could rival Han Ruoxi in terms of aloofness.
“Ruoxi.” The journalists seized every chance to interview Han Ruoxi. “Are you currently still single? Do you have plans to look for a boyfriend?”
Han Ruoxi very abruptly cast a quick glance at Su Jianan. Only a glance was all it took for the journalists to start a commotion. They highly antic.i.p.ated Han Ruoxi’s response.
“I have no plans to date or get married at the moment,” Han Ruoxi answered smilingly. “I’ll still be focusing on my s...o...b..z career in the next few years. Actually I’ve been really afraid of becoming a certain type of woman: one who would spend all her days contemplating how to doll up to win her husbands’ attention from work. Or to be touching the wrinkles on her face and worrying that her husband would abandon her when they grow old. I only believe that age will make me into a better person who is even more worthy of being loved.”
“Ruoxi, do you mean you’ll only live for yourself forever?”
“That’s right.” Han Ruoxi smiled even more confidently, and almost alluding to something. “I will not change to deliberately suit men’s tastes.”
“But sometimes it’s better for women to be a bit softer,” a journalist said. She replied, “Of course I don’t mean to be weak, but to have a certain gentleness unique to feminity.”
Han Ruoxi shrugged. “Look at my towering stature. To have me rest lovingly upon a man like a little bird would probably make me come off as an ostrich instead. I am not compatible with the gentle image.”
The journalists burst into laughter.
