Chapter 411 You Will Lose If You Become Anxious
Su Jianan’s near blind trust in Lu Boyan wasn’t weakened by those ambiguous photos at all.
And she wasn’t in a hurry to meet Xia Mili.
She thought that Xia Mili might have cooperated with the shoot.
Then, Xia Mili should be more anxious than her—maybe Miss Xia couldn’t wait to know how she looked when she saw those photos, so that Xia Mili could find the best way to deal with her rival in love.
What she wanted to tell Xia Mili was that, in that case, the one who became anxious first would be doomed.
It was like that with impatient suspects who hurriedly committed a crime; they would always be found out in a short time.
If Xia Mili anxiously went to visit her as expected, what she would be more interested in could be another issue, which had nothing to do with the things between Lu Boyan and Xia Mili…
With her una.s.sailable trust, that day Su Jianan enjoyed her afternoon nap as usual. When she woke up, she found Lu Boyan was already home. He was sitting beside her bed and flipping through the novel that she had yet to finish reading, and his well-defined features looked extraordinarily handsome in the soft light.
Su Jianan subconsciously looked out the window and found it was barely evening time. She asked Lu Boyan in surprise, “Why did you come home so early today?”
Lu Boyan didn’t answer her question. Instead, he raised his eyebrow and asked, “Don’t you prefer that I return early and stay with you?”
Su Jianan tilted her head and said, “But, recently you’ve come home after midnight.”
There was only her usual calmness instead of any resentment or dissatisfaction in her words, which made Lu Boyan even more ashamed.
He held Su Jianan’s hand and said, “After these busy days, I’ll come home from work on time.”
“Well, do as you like!” Su Jianan stroked her swollen belly, and said with a happy smile on her face, “They’re with me at home!”
Lu Boyan knew that Su Jianan wanted to comfort him with those words, since their unborn babies could do nothing but kick her. “How can they accompany her?” He thought.
Before he could say anything, Aunt Liu knocked and said the dinner was ready. Then Su Jianan held his hand and went downstairs.
It was a good chance for Su Jianan to ask Lu Boyan why he hadn’t returned until two o’clock in the morning the other day. However, she didn’t mention it at all.
She still had the expectation that if Lu Boyan thought it necessary to tell her about that, he would say it before she asked.
She was willing to wait.
She had been waiting for nearly half a month; however, Lu Boyan had never talked with Su Jianan about Xia Mili. Instead, he had returned home earlier and earlier those days. There was no follow-up about those photos, and everything seemed peaceful.
As days went by, Su Jianan gradually stopped vomiting during the later period of her pregnancy and began to have a better appet.i.te.
To begin with, she had eaten more than she used to during her daily three meals. Later on, she began to have an extra meal after lunch and before dinner.
When she was five months pregnant, she even awoke from hunger at midnight.
In May, it was still cold in City A. She curled herself up under the warm covers and didn’t want to get up. With hunger and discomfort, she fidgeted like a piggy, which awoke Lu Boyan.
Originally, she just opened her eyes with an innocent look on her face, because she was ashamed to say she was hungry. Afterwards, she needed say nothing but give him a look; Lu Boyan would go downstairs to bring her a midnight snack.
After she finished, Lu Boyan would take the tableware downstairs. When he returned to their room, she was always asleep.
Besides, Lu Boyan needed to ma.s.sage her legs and help her turn over, so he had to wake up several times a night.
Since Lu Boyan didn’t have much time to sleep, Su Jianan felt guilty that she had reduced his sleep quality.
She had wanted for them to sleep in separate rooms, with the auntie looking after her at night, so that Lu Boyan could rest well. However, before she could propose it, she was rejected by Lu Boyan with a look.
Lu Boyan said, “It’s my job to look after you.”
His logic was: who was eligible to take care of his wife and babies except him?
Maybe she had been taken good care of by Lu Boyan, or maybe she had become simple-minded during pregnancy. Gradually, as a result, Su Jianan forgot about Xia Mili as if she had never received those photos, and enjoyed her life like a pig.
When she was five months pregnant and went for her pregnancy check-ups, for the first time, Su Jianan saw on the weight scale that she weighed over 50 kilos.
She blanked out for a while, then she drew Lu Boyan’s sleeve and said, “Darling, I wonder if the weight scale in the hospital… is inaccurate.”
Lu Boyan casually said “Uh” to affirm Su Jianan’s words.
Su Jianan breathed a sigh of relief and said, “I’ll say!” She was pregnant and it was common that her weight was over 50 kilos. However, the numbers she just saw were… too high, and they were beyond her imagination as well as her acceptance.
Before she could take another breath, however, Lu Boyan calmly said, “To comfort some pregnant women, the weight scale has been adjusted to show 800 grams when it actually measures one kilo.”
What a bolt from the blue!
Su Jianan widened her peach-blossom-like eyes and asked, “Do you mean that I weigh 20% more than what I saw?”
Looking at Su Jianan’s pale and desperate face, Lu Boyan couldn’t kid her anymore. He laughed and said, “All the numbers in the hospital have to be accurate, so it can’t show you the wrong figures. But, what you saw isn’t only your own weight.”
Su Jianan thought for a while, then she looked at Lu Boyan with doubt and asked, “Did you step on the scale for fun?” Previously when Luo Xiaoxi weighed herself, Su Jianan used to quietly step on the scale, which had frightened Luo Xiaoxi, making her scream.
“Of course not.” Lu Boyan touched Su Jianan’s head and said, “What you saw is the weight of three. On average, you weigh less than before.”
The three meant Su Jianan and her two unborn babies.
Su Jianan was amused by Lu Boyan’s sophistry and gradually accepted the numbers. Then she went to have various check-ups under the guidance of the nurse.
Finally, Dr. Han said to Su Jianan, “Mrs. Lu, your weight now is normal. Your health and the two babies’ are very good. Just keep it up.”
When they left the hospital, Su Jianan couldn’t help feeling proud of herself.
She had lived through her hardest times as well as given up her favorite job and the so-called beauty, just for her and Lu Boyan’s mutual two little lives.
Five months later, she would be able to see what the two little lives would be like. They would gradually grow up under her and Lu Boyan’s care, then become a part of the world.
“Ah, just thinking about it can make me happy.” She thought.
The other person who was in her best mood was Xu Youning.
After having the recuperation and rehabilitation for more than half a month, she finally got rid of the curse-like crutch. Although she still walked a bit weirdly, she wouldn’t be stopped by Mu Sijue anymore, whether she wanted to stay in a hotel or under an overpa.s.s!
When it came to Mu Sijue… Xu Youning’s high mood would slam to the ground at once.
During those days, although they had been living in the same house, they had hardly seen each other.
Usually, by the time she woke up in the morning, Mu Sijue had already gone out. What they could do was nothing but sometimes have dinner together, or greet each other in the garden when she encountered Mu Sijue who had just returned after work in the evening.
In total, the two had spent less than 24 hours together during those days.
Despite all that, Xu Youning couldn’t help missing Mu Sijue.
Previously, when she was very young, she had been obsessed with Kang Ruicheng. He noticed her emotions but said nothing. Kang Ruicheng just constantly changed his girlfriends, and occasionally emphasized that she was like his younger sister that he would try his best to protect.
She was young then but not stupid, and realized in a short time that there wouldn’t be a happy ending between them. Afterwards, she trained hard and performed her missions far away from him. Gradually, she found herself no longer obsessed with Kang Ruicheng, and she only respected him.
She thought if she was strong-willed enough, she could forget Mu Sijue in the same way.
However, the fact was that it was impossible. Each time she saw Mu Sijue, her breathing and heartbeats would get out of control, and the rate of her forgetting progress returned to 0%.
She was like an old rusty machine, with a rate-of-forgetting progress that could only load to 2%. And it had to reboot the next day, which repeated the same tragedy.
Xu Youning recalled that a book, of which she forgot the name, had said that some people were destined to have a catastrophe in their lives.
She thought she was one of them, and her catastrophe was Mu Sijue.
Her sense of reason told her that it was time to leave him. Even if it was dangerous to return to Kang Ruicheng, it wasn’t good for her to stay with Mu Sijue anymore. Otherwise, once she was sniffed out, not only would she die but also her feelings for Mu Sijue would be doubted, and she would only end in curses.
She really liked Mu Sijue. She would rather the secret be kept with herself forever than her sincere feelings be doubted.
She was loath to leave, although it was a good chance for her to leave the villa and go to Kang Ruicheng’s house. Even Mu Sijue would have to take some time to find her.
Then it would have been revealed that she was the undercover person. And Mu Sijue would only want to end her life instead of asking her back.
However, she was unable to leave.
She was greedy for the feeling when she stayed with Mu Sijue. Even if she could hardly meet him during a day, at least they were living under the same roof.
As Xu Youning hesitated, days went by.
One day, she walked more naturally. In the evening she was bored and went to the garden to water the flowers. Halfway through it, she heard a car stop. She subconsciously looked toward the gate and saw Mu Sijue get out of the car.
Mu Sijue dressed casually as usual. The dark clothes and his grim features all served as a foil to his coldness and menacing look.
Even if nothing was wrong, he liked frowning slightly, which made it difficult for others to tell whether he was thinking or in a bad mood. What’s more, his inherent dark temperament gave others a sense of alienation, making them subconsciously distance themselves from him.
Xu Youning was upset and thought, “Why do I adore such a man? Does he have any charm?”
At that moment, she felt her hand empty all of a sudden. She subconsciously looked sideways and found that the sprinkler was in Mu Sijue’s hand.
Mu Sijue gave her a cold face and asked, “Are you going to flood the entire garden?”
Xu Youning looked at the flowerpot in front of her and found that the water was overflowing onto the surrounding gra.s.s.
She pretended that she didn’t see it and asked, “Why did you return so early?”
Mu Sijue threw the sprinkler away and said, “Change your clothes and follow me.”
“Where are we going?” Xu Youning thought for a while and asked, “You think my feet have recovered, so now you’re going to drown me in the river?”
“That’s a good idea.” Mu Sijue gave her a faint smile, which made it difficult for her to tell if he was serious or just kidding. “Return to your room now, or I’ll throw you into the pool.”
Xu Youning glanced the pool that wasn’t far away from them. In that cold day, there wasn’t anyone swimming in the pool. A wind blew over the clean and clear water, ripples forming on its surface.
Before experiencing it, Xu Youning could already imagine the feeling if she touched the water, which would be like an icicle piercing through her bone, so she quickly walked away to change her clothes.
