Volume 1
Chapter 3-1

Chapter 3 In the Beginning, G.o.d Created the Template (Part 1 of 2)

Part 1

“I’m sorry.”

“Oh…”

It was after school and the rays of the setting sun shone through the arts cla.s.sroom all the way into the corridor.

“I’m really happy that you feel that way, Senpai.”

“Ah, erm, yeah.”

Eriri stood there, her blonde hair glowing with an aura of radiance in the sunlight. Objectively speaking, her hair was just a genetic trait she had from birth. However, at the moment it was really giving her a strong presence in the room.

“It’s just that I’m currently preoccupied with the upcoming exhibition, so…”

“A-ah yeah! You were going to try for the top spot for the second year in a row now. Sorry for asking you during this difficult time…”

“Ah no, that’s…Anyway I’m really sorry about this.”

However, I already knew. She…she wasn’t someone who would be troubled by a mere student exhibition.
Even if it was for the cultural festival or a deadline at the printers, if she wasn’t satisfied with the quality of her work, she had the courage to push back those deadlines to another time.

“Well then, I suppose this is something I’ll just put on hold for now.”

“Yeah…”

“When the exhibition is over, could you reconsider what I’ve just asked?”

“…”

“I guess it’s too much to ask then?”

“…”

“Sa-sawamura…san?”

And so, I knew. Eriri, in the midst of her silence, was diffusing that pulsating, irrational rage of hers.

“…Are you there?”

“Yeah.”

The setting sun was rapidly falling toward the horizon, and its rays no longer shone far enough to reach the corridor through the arts cla.s.sroom.

As the sun set, so did the spirits of the foolish and reckless Senpai, who had been rejected in a most thorough manner by Eriri. After five minutes of his rejection, the Senpai, with his shoulders slumped, slinked out of the arts cla.s.sroom.

Meanwhile, without noticing his dejection, Eriri, looking completely unfazed by the incident, quickly tidied up the paints in the room, locked the door to the prep room, and finished the last of her preparations to go home, humming unconcernedly as she left the arts room.

“Ah Tomoya! Did you hear all that?”

“Yes. It was a bit of a coincidence, I suppose.”

“So when did this coincidence start?”

“Well, it was upon hearing, ‘Sawamura, there’s something really important I have to discuss with you no matter what.’ Somewhere along those lines.”

“Ooh, you might claim such a thing is a coincidence, however one would say that playing around by spying on someone like a peeping Tom from start to finish is a most repulsive hobby.”

“For some reason, when you speak politely like that, I don’t understand you at all.”

Along with her strangely expressed words, the tufts of Eriri’s golden hair were gently…well, fluttering, with a bit of a buzz about them. The force of her twintails twirling was beyond belief.

“So, what is it? If there’s something you want to talk about, please make it brief. Oh look, there’s no time left. Well, see you later.”

“So you’re telling me to say what I want in 0.5 seconds when you’ve already taken 0.5 seconds to say that!”

“I heard everything you wanted to say yesterday. And I said everything I wanted to say yesterday. Is there really any room left for this conversation to continue?”

I suppose today is what you’d call the future of yesterday.
Yesterday, I took some mighty criticism. Now it’s the present (Prologue) day.

“Um, it’s just that after hearing your opinions on the plan, I went ahead and revised it. So this time round I wanted to summarise and explain some of the points…”

“I’ve said everything I wanted to say yesterday, didn’t I just say that?!”

“Ooh!”

A twirling, whizzing lash of twintails came at me, a sign of Eriri’s stubbornness in refusing to talk. The swis.h.i.+ng of her twintails managed to hit my cheeks. It stung in a ticklish way.

“And besides, what on earth is a talentless person like you, who can’t even accomplish anything by yourself, doing calling yourself a director and running around with a net trying to ensnare members? Not only do you want us to listen to your story, you’re also expecting us to work with you for free aren’t you? And on top of that, you keep spouting all this hot-headed nonsense when we all know that we’re all going to end up accomplis.h.i.+ng nothing anyway. Lastly, you should know that the thing I hate the most is when guys just start persistently trying to recruit me the minute they know I’m a girl.”

“On top of your line being excessively long, aren’t you thinking a bit too exclusively of your own experiences here?”

Did something happen in the past…?

“Anyway, because of all the unpleasant memories you’ve brought up, I’m going home. I’m going to go home, sleep, and forget it all.”

I guess something really did happen…

“Well then, see you next week.”

“Ah, wait a bit.”

“What…is there still something you want to talk about…?”

“I finished ‘that’, and I’ve brought it here today. So how about going for a change of pace this weekend and trying it out?”

“…Later.”

Did she not understand those final words of mine…?
With an air of authority as always, Eriri departed down the corridor, holding her dignity aloft as she strode down its very centre, her royal path.

“…Later.”

Sawamura Spencer Eriri,
the ace of the Arts Club and the number one famed, fake princess of the academy. It seemed she was also in a bad temper today.
