Chapter 67: Unravelling (3)

Lin Xin didn't mention crying all night once she woke up. Looking at herself in the mirror with her red, swollen eyes, she thought: it's so d.a.m.n ugly, what should I do?

While Cheng Qingrong wasn't paying attention, she secretly took out two cubes of ice from the refrigerator and covered her eyes to ease the swelling.

Looking at Lin Xinyu who still hadn't woken at the head of the bed, Lin Xin sighed in her heart. Yesterday, she cried so wretchedly. This child must have worried to the point of not sleeping all night, only now dozing off.

He wasn't in good health. Going forward, she couldn't so trustingly let herself cry in front of him again.

Lin Xin wanted him to sleep longer, so she gently closed the door and came to the dining room. At this time, Cheng Qingrong got up. He was in the kitchen making breakfast. Today, he was making a Western style breakfast with an egg and a sandwich. He heard a noise in the dining room and held the spatula to see who was there. Seeing that it was Lin Xin, he paused, not knowing how to react or speak to her. Following a short lull, he said, “Good morning. You'll be able to eat breakfast in a while.”

Lin Xin awkwardly stood there for a moment and replied, “Then I'll go wash my face and brush my teeth.”

After freshening up, she returned to the dining room. The dining table was filled with four breakfast servings. Milk and sandwiches were neatly placed on display.

Cheng Qingrong took off his ap.r.o.n and asked, “I want Hui Hui to have breakfast with us, is that okay?” He was a little fearful of her.

Lin Xin nodded her head in agreement.

Cheng Qingrong looked around and, not seeing Lin Xinyu, he probed, “Little Yu?” His wife would be happier with the child present.

Lin Xin responded, “He's still sleeping, let's eat first.”

Although Cheng Qingrong hesitated, he nevertheless went to the master bedroom and pushed Aunt Hui out. Her expression was a little indifferent, yet her eyes lit up as soon as she saw Lin Xin. She quickly called out, “Xiao Yin, come over and sit by your mother's side.”

Lin Xin walked to the opposite end of the table and sat down beside her.

Aunt Hui quickly picked out the eggs from her plate and placed them on Lin Xin's. “Yin, eat more eggs to grow taller. Look at you, you've already been reduced to this state, do your wounds still hurt?”

Lin Xin looked at Cheng Qingrong, who was covered in thorns, and asked Aunt Hui with a smile, “Are you asking about the place where I was last burned?”

Cheng Qingrong held the sandwich tightly in his hand and eyed at his wife nervously.

“Yes.” Aunt Hui agreed.

Lin Xin shook her head, “It was painful in the beginning, but now it doesn't hurt anymore. Don't worry.”

Aunt Hui's brows relaxed as she muttered, “That's good, that's good.”

Cheng Qingrong, hastening, brings the milk to her hand, “Don't talk, I know you haven't seen them for a long time and missed them. Let the child eat first, prior to getting well, she must eat well her breakfast.”

Aunt Hui nodded, “Yes, eat, eat.” However, her eyes stayed on Lin Xin, unwilling to look away. She smiled as she watched Lin Xin finish the egg that she gave her, then as Lin Xin ate her sandwich and drank her milk, before calming down.

Lin Xin inadvertently raised her head and met Aunt Hui's gaze. Her heart warmed and, she didn't know why, but Lin Xin felt the urge to cry.

She picked up the sandwich on Aunt Hui's plate and spread some b.u.t.ter on it. Sending it near Aunt Hui's mouth, Lin Xin said, “You eat too.”

Aunt Hui was overjoyed. Bit by bit, she nipped into the sandwich, finis.h.i.+ng within an instant. Cheng Qingrong quickly pa.s.sed his own sandwich to Lin Xin, who then continued feeding her. Soon she was done eating, yet she still wanted to eat.

Lin Xin stated, “Eating too much will make you sick.”

She no longer made a fuss and quietly sat there watching Lin Xin help clear the table.

Cheng Qingrong, was.h.i.+ng dishes in the kitchen, secretly wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes.
