Thus my longings, heavenward tending, Jesus, rest alone on Thee; Help me, thus on Thee depending, Saviour! come and dwell in me; Although all the world should forsake and forget Thee, In love I will follow Thee, ne'er will I quit Thee; Lord Jesus, both spirit and life is Thy Word, And is there a joy which Thou dost not afford!

Wisdom's highest n.o.blest treasure, Jesus, lies concealed in Thee; Grant that this may still the measure Of my will and actions be, Humility there and simplicity reigning, In paths of true wisdom my steps ever training; Oh! if I of Christ have this knowledge divine, The fulness of heavenly wisdom is mine.

Christ, Thou art the sole Oblation I will bring before my G.o.d; In His sight is acceptation Only through thy streaming Blood: Immaculate righteousness I have acquired, Since Thou on the tree of the Cross hast expired; The robe of salvation for ever is mine, In this shall my faith through eternity s.h.i.+ne.

Let my soul, in full exemption, Wake up in thy likeness now; Thou art made to me redemption, My sanctfication thou.

What though all through life in good works I had striven, For thy sake alone my reward should be given: Oh! let me all peris.h.i.+ng pleasures forego, And thy life, O Jesus, alone let me know.

Where should else my hopes be centred?

Grace o'erwhelms me with its flood!

Thou, my Saviour, once hast entered Holiest heaven through Thy Blood: Eternal redemption for sinners there finding, From h.e.l.l's dark dominion my spirit unbinding, To me perfect freedom thy entrance has brought, Who childlike to cry "Abba, Father" am taught.

Christ Himself, my Shepherd, feeds me, Peace and joy my spirit fill; In a pasture green He leads me Forth beside the waters still: Oh! nought to my soul is so sweet and reviving, As thus unto Jesus alone to be living; True happiness this, and this only supplies, Through faith on my Saviour to fasten my eyes.

Then, Lord Jesus, my Salvation, Thou my One, my All shalt be; Prove my fixed determination, Root out all hypocrisy: Look well if on sin's slippery paths I am hasting, And lead me, O Lord, in the way everlasting; This one thing is needful, all others are vain, I count all but loss that I Christ may obtain.

Wort des Lebens, stark und rein, Alle Volker harren dein: Walte fort, bis aus der Nacht Alle Welt zum Tag erwacht.

Auf zur Erndt in alle Welt!

Weithin wogt das reife Feld, Klein ist noch der Schnitter Zahl, Viel der Garben uberall.

Herr der Erndte, gross und gut, Weck zum Werke l.u.s.t und Muth: La.s.s die Volker allzumal Schauen deines Lichtes Stral.

Word of G.o.d the Spirit's might, Who our heavenward course doth light, Prompteth good, and by his breath What He prompts accomplisheth.

Word of life, both pure and strong!

Word for which the heathen long!

Spread abroad, till out of night All the world awake to light.

Up! for lo! earth's surface o'er Waving fields with ripening store!

Countless sheaves are spread around, Few, oh! few the reapers found!

Lord of Harvest, great and kind!

Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott, Ein gute Wehr und Waffen; Er hilft uns frei aus aller Noth, Die uns jetzt hat betroffen: Der alt bose Feind, Mit Ernst ers jetzt meint, Gross Macht und viel List Sein grausam Rustung ist, Auf Erd' ist nicht seins Gleichen.

Mit unser Macht ist nichts gethan, Wir sind gar bald verloren; Es streit fur uns der rechte Mann, Den Gott hat selbst erkoren; Fragst du, wer der ist?

Er heisst Jesus Christ, Der Herr Zebaoth, Und ist kein ander Gott; Das Feld muss Er behalten.

Und wenn die Welt voll Teufel war Und wollt uns gar verschlingen, So furchten wir uns nicht so sehr, Es soll uns doch gelingen: Der Furst dieser Welt, Wie saur er sich stellt, Thut er uns doch nicht; Das macht, er ist gericht, Ein Wortlein kann ihn fallen.

Das Wort sie sollen la.s.sen stahn, Und kein Dank dazu haben; Er ist bei uns wohl auf dem Plan Mit seinem Geist und Gaben: Nehmen sie den Leib, Gut, Ehr, Kind und Weib: La.s.s fahren dahin, Sie habens kein Gewinn; Das Reich muss uns doch bleiben!
