Chapter 29 : In The Blink Of An Eye

After we defeated the poison slime, our journey progressed relatively safe.

As usual, I was the one in charge of our meal.

Everyone complimented my food and they had this blissful face whilst eating my cooking.

I felt happy looking at them eating my food wholeheartedly like that.

Ah right, on our way here we encountered a wild hog monster.

They said the wild hog’s meat was very tasty and juicy, it was the perfect ingredient for a steak.

Although I was hesitant at first since I didn’t think we can consume monster’s meat but they said it was normal to eat it.

Some meat on the market also came from the monster so apparently I might’ve been eating monster meat without me noticing.

Before we decided to form a party together, I was actually prepared to complete the subjugation quest all by myself by standing guard as support magician in the camp so at first I thought that the preparation that I’ve done might be a little bit too excessive for solo adventurer.

You know, with that huge tent that Malik-san gave me and all the food that I’ve prepared beforehand for both me and Chris-san..

But now I was glad since I could provide meals for my party.

Oh and the last thing.

We had a little dispute when we were about to sleep inside the tent.

Everyone was fussing over the right to sleep beside me but eventually we had found a peaceful solution through rock,paper, scissor compet.i.tion.

The winners will be given the rights to sleep beside me.

The sight of the three of them playing rock, paper and scissor so seriously was both funny and scary.

As for barriers, since there was four of us casting barriers, the barriers were strong enough to last until morning came but there were rare case where a monster came close to our camp.

Well, the three of them easily finished the approaching monster though.

Today was the third day of our subjugation quest.

We’ve defeated quite a variety of monsters, from insect, animal, and event plant type monster but we’ve never met any humanoid monster.

I wonder if there were any humanoid monsters like succubus or dracula?

“Umm.. Is there any humanoid monster in Alsar?”

“Humanoid?~ Oooh~ You mean like demon kind?~”

“Demon?”

“Yup~ Demon is a high ranking monster but not only that they look like human, they also live like one. Rather than monster, they’re more like another kind of beastman. They also have a very long lifespan~”

“That’s right, the current demon king is over 300 years old. We live in perfect harmony, some demon kind also lives in human settlement. The current demon king is also my grandfather’s G.o.dparent.”

Eh?

Apparently demon and human had a good relations.h.i.+p to the extent a demon king could become a G.o.dparent of a human king.

Even though Alsar was like a world from fantasy game but there were some things fundamentally different here.

“Do they look like an elf or beastman too?”

“Nah, they have this.. Vertical pupil so they look kinda different than beastman or elf. Have you never seen one in Pedrell, Ren?”

“No, I don’t think I’ve seen one in Pedrell..”

So their eyes looked like a cat or reptile then.

If I seen something like that on the street, I was sure I would’ve noticed one right away so I think there was not any demon in Pedrell.

“Pedrell and Ordeal, the city where demon lives are in the opposite direction. It’s quite a distance and they also rarely leave their own territory so it’s no wonder you’ve never seen one in Pedrell, Ren-kun.”

I see, it couldn’t be helped then.

Now, I wonder how was the relations.h.i.+p between monster and demon kind?

“Since demon kind is a high ranking monster.. How’s the relations.h.i.+p between monster and demon kind then?”

“Well, although monster is a distant relatives of demon kind, they don’t like it when we compare the two of them together. The demon prefer to live in peace and somehow there are not much monsters in the place demond kind lives. Maybe the monster are afraid of demon kind? Since they’re higher in ranking after all. But in Alsar, it is a common sense to exterminate a monster when one appeared. If I have to say, I think Alsar is the safest country in this whole world.”

Ah, I guess the demon didn’t live in the way that I imagined at first.

I wanted to travel to their city if possible..

Even though fundamentally they were a monster, they were a lot closer to humankind after all.

Today was the last day of the subjugation quest.

We’ve defeated plenty of monsters and we’ve also reached the end of the prairie.

If we kept on moving forward, we will reach the forest.

“The other party hasn’t reached this place yet huh, how about if we go and patrol this place for a bit?”

“Yeah, we’ve defeated a lot of monster already. Let’s return back to the camp in the afternoon.”

Sig-san and Fer-san discussed our next plan.

In front of me, there was this yellow veil that went from one ends to the other.

When I tried to touch it, I felt like there was some sort of wall blocking it around 1cm thick.

“Ah, don’t put too much force when you touch it, Ren-kun. If you do, the barrier will activate and knock you back.”

“Right, right. We don’t want you to get hurt now, right?~”

“Ah,yes. I’m sorry..”

I kept on trying to touch it without thinking much, I had to be more careful from now on.

Since the barrier was used to keep the monster contained, of course it will cause damage when something tried to force through it.

“Ren-kun, can you sense any monster nearby?”

“Umm, no. I don’t sense any monster within 500 meters.”

In this party, my ‘Search’ skill had the widest range so I was the one in charge for look out for any monster nearby.

Also I had really big magical power since I could kept on using ‘Search’ from early morning until dusk.

Apparently normal people could only kept on using ‘Search’ for a couple hours at most.

So for normal parties, they will need to take turn using ‘Search’ during the quest.

In Luce, my role as support magician was to cast support magic for the other three.

They will need to preserve their magic power for battle so I proposed myself to become the one in charge of using ‘Search’ since I had a lot of magic power anyway.

“Hm.. What should we do? We can’t advance even further anymore..” Fer-san murmured.

“Then how about if we patrolled alongside the barrier instead?~” Chris-san suggested.

The three of them started to discuss our next plan, they really had a good relations.h.i.+p.

They could came up with a good plan together without any unnecessary arguing.

“Well how about if we start patrolling by going to the left? After we patroll for a bit, let’s have a lunch break and then we can go back to the camp. What are we going to do when we get back though?” I asked.

“Hmm~ We will need to gather up our guild cards and give it to the guild staff to receive our payment. I don’t know whether Ren-chan knows it or not but they will transfer the payment straight into our guild card~”

Oooh I see.

How convenient, so we didn’t have to bring cash everywhere since the guild cards could work like our debit card in Earth.

“After that we need to go sell our materials somewhere else since there’s no adventurer guild in Baunov.” Sig-san added.

“I see.. We need to wait until we find a proper adventurer guild then..”

There was no adventurer guild in Baunov after all so we need to hold on our materials for a little while until we found any adventurer guild.

Adventurer guild also very convenient~

They worked as a bank, managed available request, managed the adventurers and they also distributed various kind of materials.

I heard they also took the responsibility to educate any rogue adventurer.

For sure, they were a fundamental part of this world.

“We haven’t encountered any monster so far, weird.. Have we eradicated all the monster near the vicinity?”

“Maybe? It’s been 4 hours but we haven’t find any.. I don’t sense anything from ‘Search’ either..”

Since last night, we hadn’t encountered any monster yet.

Maybe we’ve exterminated all the monsters?

After 2 hours more of walking and still, no monster in the vicinity yet.

“Hmmm~ No monster at all~ Maybe we were too worked up and accidentally finished all the monster?”

“Who knows? How about if we return back now? It’s a little bit earlier than planned but we cannot find any monster anyway.”

“Let’s do that, I’m sure Ren-kun must be tired from subjugating for a whole week too.”

“Yeah, Ren we will be counting on you to return back then.”

We couldn’t find any monsters so everyone decided to head back early and get some rest.

Umm, to return I need to use this bracelet..

“Well then, let’s return back. [Party Return].”

I chanted the spell and suddenly I felt a distortion on the s.p.a.ce and all four of us disappeared from our spot.
