Without waiting for Jing Sa's reply, the door was slammed close mercilessly.
Jing Sa could only look up at the sky, speechless and gagging, and then left in silence.
Xiaoxiao reentered the study, examined the materials on the whiteboard, shook her head, and then quickly began to reorganize with her own hands and feet. In no time, those numerous materials were gradually consolidated in her hands.
She bit down on a red market in her mouth, with a black one in her hand, alternating with each other while writing down what she thought was crucial on the white board.
By the time everything was sorted out, the entire whiteboard was filled with details without any slack, but not at all cluttered at a glance.
She put down her markers and took a few steps back, surveying the entire whiteboard under her eyes.
A pale light spilled over her, making her look even more indifferent than usual, an indifference that made it impossible to approach, but the light in her eyes was brighter than ever.
Jing Sa spent another night in the police station.
At dawn, she and Zhang Youcheng stared at the cell phone on the desk. There were seven or eight other people in the office, all of them members of the task force, and all were fixated on the phone on the table.
The captain of the Interpol, Cao Zhen, is three years older than Jing Sa. He's her senior and could have led the team, but he went to Was.h.i.+ngton, D.C., two months ago to study and have yet to return. So, Jing Sa as the deputy captain has to shoulder this heavy responsibility.
Time crawled, Zhang Yucheng smoked one cigarette after another, and just as he ordered a new pack of cigarettes, the shrill tone on the phone rang.
At this sound, everyone was strung out.
Under the gaze of the crowd, Jing Sa pressed the hands-free b.u.t.ton.
"h.e.l.lo?!"
Xiao Li grimly replied on the phone: “I just received the ransom note!”
When the officers heard it, they all breathed heavily.
Zhang Youcheng asked: “What did it say?”
“Ransom of 150,000 yuan, three days later at 13:00, under the Yan'an Road overpa.s.s, no police allowed!”
Except for the difference in the ransom amount, everything else is exactly the same as before, all three days later at 13:00, under the Yan'an Road overpa.s.s.
Everyone's faces turned ugly. The ransom for the eight children was delivered under the Yan'an Road overpa.s.s, except for three who did not call the police. The other five times, they've set up an ambush, but no kidnapper ever showed up.
This time around, would the kidnapper make an appearance?
Zhang Youcheng sat back down and silently lit up another cigarette.
It is clear to all that the entire police community will be disgraced if no one is caught again this time.
Xiao Li was still waiting for instructions over the phone. Jing Sa rubbed her face fiercely, and looked up solemnly.
"Comfort the family first, Lao Zhang and I will pa.s.s by immediately!”
Jing Sa ended the call and put on her coat, then instructed the others, "Old Zhang and I will head there first, you guys deploy according to the plan last night, don't take it lightly.”
“Yes!”
Before leaving, Jing Sa wondered whether to make a phone call to Xiaoxiao to see her progress, but when she thought of her att.i.tude yesterday, she dismissed her thoughts again.
Zhang Youcheng thought she was worrying about the case and comforted, "Worrying at the moment is useless, the most important thing is to perform our job well!"
Jing Sa nodded, and between the two closing the car door and the flas.h.i.+ng of the police lights, the car drove out.
Without warning, the police car had just pulled up to the police station gate when it was surrounded by a crowd of media.
In the police car, Jing Sa watched as the group of reporters slapped the window gla.s.s of the car for an interview. Her brows furrowed into a ball.
The police are most afraid of dealing with the media, especially in this case, which involves the lives of nine children. It is a major criminal case, and the murderer is still on the loose, such a sudden attack will definitely not be good. Being mobbed suddenly is definitely no good news.
Sure enough, through the gla.s.s, some reporters could be heard pressing harsh questions.
“Do you have any explanation for the loss of eight children and the impunity of the killer?”
“As for the murderer, how many clues do you have?”
“The general public has the right to know, you can't keep your mouths shut!”
And then, blah-blah-blah-blah….
Jing Sa wanted to drive the car back, but unfortunately, it is now surrounded. With no escape, they must get out of the car. She wanted to retrace their steps back to the station to hide, but the gate was also blocked by reporters. Reporters extended their own microphones with all their brand labels on them. They are all front-line online journalists. She raised her hand to protect her face from the camera and blocked the media from coming after her, responding with a blanket “no comment”.
