"What are you doing?" asked Han Changsheng.
As everyone turned to look back, they were startled to see Liu Jiulong, Han Changsheng in disguise.
“Da s.h.i.+xiong, you feel better?” asked one of the s.h.i.+di.
Han Changsheng ignored the question and answered with one of his own: “Why have so many of you gathered here?”
“Oh, it's Da s.h.i.+xiong.” Yue Yu-er looked up a proud expression on her face. “You've come at the perfect time, you should be the judge!”
Yue Yu-er had never viewed him too highly, but he was easy to use. Li Jiulong was, after all, the earliest to enter the Sect and the oldest of the senior disciples. Although his martial arts were not better than the second s.h.i.+xiong's, Huangfu Fengxuan Xichen, he was still outstanding compared to other younger disciples. Not to mention, Li Jiulong always tended to Yue Yu-er hand and foot. If Yue Yu-er ordered him to go east, he wouldn't dare look west.
This time Yue Yu-er was intent on provoking him to act. She had long been bitter about Liu Xiaoqi. She had already made a few accusations against him to her father, but Yue Peng always blamed her for being too delicate, telling her she should not bully her s.h.i.+di and should instead take care of him instead. As a result, she had become even more annoyed by Liu Xiaoqi. So she wanted to take advantage of the chance to make Liu Xiaoqi suffer and remember her might. If she were to go complain, she feared that Yue Peng would reprimand her for lacking in skill. But if she made Li Jiulong come forward, Yue Peng would accept the senior disciple's statement.
Han Changsheng stepped forward, wearing the bare bones of a smile. “Judge what?”
Yue Yu-er, the guilty party, cried first and pointed a finger straight at Liu Xiaoqi's nose: "We'd agreed to a compet.i.tion, but he hurt me!" She covered her shoulder, looking at it pitifully. "It hurts!"
Liu Xiaoqi looked as if he was about to cry: "No, I didn't mean to, I thought you could block it…"
Han Changsheng walked up to Liu Xiaoqi: “Little s.h.i.+di, If I recall correctly, you entered the sect two years ago. s.h.i.+fu has taught you the basic Yuehua Nine techniques, hasn't he?”
Liu Xiaoqi nodded: “Yes.”
Han Changsheng turned back, also speaking to Yue Yu-er: “Little s.h.i.+mei, you and I were both brought up at the s.h.i.+fu's side and have already learned the Thirty-six techniques. You competing with little s.h.i.+di, isn't this bullying?”
Yue Yu-er stood at a loss. She thought once Da s.h.i.+xiong heard she was hurt, he would lash out. By blaming Liu Xiaoqi, her own anger would be vented out on him, then Li Jiulong would report the matter to the head. But he responded like this?
Yue Yu-er stammered: “We…we were just playing around; I was also letting him off…”
Han Changsheng's response was chilled, “If you were going easy on him, then how were you injured by him? If this was one of the other s.h.i.+xiong's and they hurt you, they would be in the wrong. But the younger s.h.i.+dis are far below you, yet he hit you. It's a given considering you only know how to play lazy without practicing.”
Yue Yu-er froze, staring at Han Changsheng in disbelief.
The s.h.i.+xiongs beside her spoke up for her. “Da s.h.i.+xiong, how could you say that to s.h.i.+mei?” “s.h.i.+mei really was giving s.h.i.+di leeway, it was s.h.i.+di who was being heavy-handed…”
"Fine." Han Changsheng retorted, "I'll inform s.h.i.+fu that your martial arts aren't even a match for your s.h.i.+di's. He shouldn't teach you any new moves and instead teach the Thirty-six techniques to s.h.i.+di."
“You!” Yue Yu-er's angry eyes teamed with tears. “You're talking nonsense, how are my martial arts worse!”
The corners of Han Changsheng's mouth rose, and he smiled, “Do you need me to tell you?”
Yue Yu-er felt a little nervous and, grabbing her sword, stepped back. She often competed with Li Jiulong, and although he always let her win, she knew his martial arts were better than hers. If he seriously tested her skill, she would have no chance of winning.
Yue Yu-er stomped, fuming, “Since you claim that my martial arts are poor, then you can beat me in five strokes, right!” She only said this as a matter of getting herself out of an embarra.s.sing situation. If he lost, she would still have him make accusations against Liu Xiaoqi; if he won, then everything would be written off, she wouldn't press the matter, and her lack of practice would not be investigated.
Han Changsheng snorted and raised his chin then said, “If I can't win in one stroke, henceforth I'll only heed by you!” The martial arts taught by Tianning Cult came from a collection of the world's strongest martial arts techniques. Although Han Changsheng was not the strongest in Tianning. In the Jianghu, they still considered him a master of martial arts. In his eyes, Yue Yu-er was no different from a woman without the strength to truss a chicken.
Yue Yu-er was thoroughly enraged. Grabbing her wooden sword, she let out a shout and stabbed straight at his chest. Han Changsheng jumped, kicking her sword. It forced Yue Yu-er forward. The wooden sword flew out of her hand and past the face of the disciple who'd just spoken in her favor. The disciple was so scared his legs went soft, and he was brought to his knees. Yue Yu-er had not yet recovered when the tip of Han Changsheng's sword rested on her rosy lips.
Yue Yu-er's eyes filled with fear eyes. It was a while before she made a sound and took a step back, letting the sword leave her mouth before she dared to speak: “This… Da s.h.i.+xiong how could you…” The senior who had always been obedient to her, Today, for Liu Xiaoqi, pointed a sword at her beautiful face?!
Han Changsheng lowered his sword and as he walked past Yue Yu-er, whispered in her ear, “Watch your words.”
Yue Yu-er stood still dumbstruck.
“Oh, I forgot to mention you, I poked dog s.h.i.+t with my sword a moment ago.”
Yue Yu-er gasped, nearly pa.s.sing out. The s.h.i.+xiongs rushed up to support her while she rubbed her mouth so hard she almost broke through the skin.
Han Changsheng gave a proud smile, turned and walked away. He hadn't taken a few steps when Liu Xiaoqi caught up to him and said in a small voice: “Thank you, Da s.h.i.+xiong.”
Not giving it much care, Han Changsheng waved his hand: “After that, the little girl will come looking for you to give you trouble again. You come to me. I'll help you teach her a lesson.” He now looked at Yue Yu-er as all kinds of unpleasant.
Liu Xiaoqi was touched and somewhat taken aback: “Da s.h.i.+xiong, you are so nice.”
“Go, go, quickly off with yourself.” Han Changsheng was in no mood to chat with Liu Xiaoqi and hastened to dismiss him. He pressed a hand to his empty stomach and went hunting for food.
Han Changsheng wandered, circling Yuehua Sect. He got something to eat, checked the area's terrain and returned.
Back in his room, Han Changsheng was preparing to fall asleep, when he heard a “meow” at the window. He turned his head and saw a beautiful fox-flower cat on the window sill.
Li Hua (fox flower) cats look like thisThe kitten tentatively pushed in a paw and stepped on the table. Since Han Changsheng did not drive it out, it hopped into the room.
“Hungry?” asked Han Changsheng.
The cat leaped towards him and circled his legs, whining in soft meows. Han Changsheng had brought back a packet of meat to prepare for breakfast tomorrow, but after thinking about it for a moment, took it out, broke it off into pieces and fed it to the cat.
Once the kitten had finished eating the food in his hand, it raised its head and let him pet it.
Han Changsheng picked up the little fox-flower cat and stroked its fur. It turned over and pressed its stomach against his hand.
Han Changsheng looked at the kitten, remembering his Violet Jade Grand Lord Gu Mingxiao. Gu Mingxiao was also someone who loved cats. When he was out on the peak, Han Changsheng had a rivalry with the cats he raised, often fighting with them over his attention.
After a while, Han Changsheng sighed, patting the kitten's behind: “Leave, I want to sleep.”
The kitten jumped out of Han Changsheng's lap and to the ground. It meowed at him and obediently left.
The night pa.s.sed in silence.
Early the next morning, Han Changsheng left to train. Yuehua Sect demanded all its disciples partic.i.p.ate in morning exercises. s.h.i.+fu taught them one-on-one twice a month, and they would practice on their own the rest of the time. Then every three months, the head and elders would inspect how well the disciples were practicing and whether they'd been idle. Li Jiulong had used sickness as an excuse and escaped morning exercises the past few days. Now that Han Changsheng had stepped out in front of people, he couldn't continue pretending to be sick. To elude being found out, he would have to bite the bullet and go to morning exercises.
When he arrived, most of the youngsters were already there. Yue Yu-er was laughing and chatting with a few other disciples, but when she saw Han Changsheng, she froze and turned her face away.
After a short while, Liu Xiaoqi ran over, his pink face beaming, he looked at Han Changsheng with sparkling eyes: “Da s.h.i.+xiong, good morning!”
Han Changsheng greeted him, “Morning.”
Liu Xiaoqi slipped him a sachet. “Da s.h.i.+xiong, for you.”
Han Changsheng frowned, “What's this?”
Liu Xiaoqi lowered his head and said, “The fragrance inside is one I mixed myself. It's effective in nouris.h.i.+ng one's blood and Qi. Da s.h.i.+xiong, you were sick not too long ago so I think this fragrance might be useful to you.”
Han Changsheng stared. Not knowing how to respond, he accepted the fragrance. “Thank you.”
Liu Xiaoqi, himself, left to practice.
After a while, Yue Yu-er pretended to casually walk over and asked, “Da s.h.i.+xiong, has your body fully healed?”
Han Changsheng snuffed in response.
Yue Yu-er coughed. She stared at her feet and rather reluctantly said, “Last time you said you wanted me to accompany you to the back of the mountain to see the peach blossoms. Anyway, I also wanted to go. Since you're better, let's go together.”
Han Changsheng looked at her. “I'm not going!”
Yue Yu-er responded with shock, “Why not?”
Han Changsheng had no mercy. “I don't want to!”
Yue Yu-er bit her lip, face flushed, stamped her foot and trudged away.
At the same time, the Black and White Impermanence were on their way back to the heavens. When Han Changsheng made a mistake and caused various alterations to An Yuan's fate, the judge had to use most of his mana to restore it. At that point, the judge had to retreat into seclusion, and the heavy duty of reporting to the heavenly courts fell to them. They planned to take advantage of the opportunity and discuss the matter with the Overseer of Fates.
Above the clouds, the Black Impermanence looked down from time to time. “Lao White, would you say Han Changsheng won't lead to more forks in the road?”
The White Impermanence frowned. “Strange to say, that mortal's book of fate is blank. The only place he appears is on a line in Lord An Yuan's book of fate, at which point he meets the edge of Lord An Yuan's blade.”
“It's because his book of fate is blank, that the fates of all those around him are so stirred by his presence. He said those closest to him were Tianning's right and left-hand guards and his four hall masters. According to their original lives, as pract.i.tioners of demonic teachings, they would not have been around long. Tianning taught the exhaustion of Qi, and while they were all originally thick in good fortune and could have found another way to wealth, they acted before thinking because of Han Changsheng and remained in the Cult. If it weren't for the matter surrounding the immortal lord, we wouldn't have ever investigated the mortal, and the oversight would never have been discovered.”
“I worry about Han Changsheng posing as Li Jiulong and staying in Yuehua Sect.” said the Black Impermanence. “Won't it make things worse? There's a character in Yuehua who'll become the right-hand man of the immortal lord. If his fate was changed by Han Changsheng…”
The Black and White Impermanence s.h.i.+vered.
“We had better go to the heavenly court to finish the matter, just keep an eye on the mortal world!”
