Zan(簪) – Developed from the ji, generally inserted as decoration for the hair. This is what’s commonly referred to as the hairpin in novels.




Chai(钗) – Similar in function to the zan, used to insert into the hair. What makes it different is that it’ll have at least two p.r.o.ngs.
