“Your Majesty, I advise you to hand over the jade seal.” An eunuch was in the imperial study confronting Han Mingze, who was seated above him, trying to convince him to take out the jade seal.
Standing opposite Han Mingze was Han Minghong, still wearing his ever-benevolent and righteous facade.
“Your Majesty, being looked at like this by you makes me feel uneasy in my heart.” Han Minghong smiled and said, “I mean, you’ve already been trapped by us, why do you still want to struggle to the death? You've been occupying this throne for so many years, it's time for your younger imperial brother to take a seat.”
“Hmph, I'm afraid you won't be able to sit still on it!” Han Mingze didn't even spare a glance for the two swords resting on his shoulders. He only lightly glanced at Han Minghong, then closed his eyes again.
“You don’t need to worry about whether or not I can sit still. If you don't want to lose your life now, hand over the jade seal!” Han Minghong said.
“If you want to make any moves, feel free.” Han Mingze disregarded Han Minghong's threat.
“You think I don't dare to kill you?!”
“If you want to kill me, then come on!”
“You– hahahaha, are you still waiting for that Han Mingyi fellow to come and save you? He's still thousands of miles away right now, sending Princess Changle off for the marital alliance. We even received word this morning that they had just started heading back. By the time he comes back to save you, your corpse will probably already smell, hahaha!” Han Minghong looked at Han Mingze mockingly, “Are you especially regretting sending him to escort the marital alliance send-off now?”
“Of us brothers, it seems like you're the only one who's always liked to rely on others, right? You don’t even seem ashamed of this!”
“You–”
Han Minghong was enraged by Han Mingze's behavior. s.n.a.t.c.hing a sword from one of the guards, he stabbed it towards Han Mingze's body. Just as the sword was about to pierce Han Mingze's heart, his hand was grabbed by the eunuch who had just spoken.
“Your Highness Prince Ren, the Empress Dowager has orders: before finding the jade seal, you can't kill him.”
Han Minghong knew that this eunuch was a powerful person beside the Empress Dowager; what he said in front of the Empress Dowager carried a lot of weight. Given that the eunuch had stopped him, he had to give up his intentions. Moving the sword's position up a few centimeters, he stabbed towards Han Mingze's shoulder slowly.
Feeling the pain in his body, Han Mingze couldn't help but frown, but he didn't make a single sound. He simply looked down and watched as the bloodied sword was slowly pulled out of his body.
As the sword was pulled out, blood flowed down from his wound, staining his bright yellow clothes red.
“Good, good, good– you really have backbone!” Han Minghong saw that Han Mingze was silent, so he took the sword that had just been pulled out and stabbed it back in.
“Wu...”
The wound was pierced once again. Han Mingze's face turned pale, bean-sized beads of sweat kept falling down, and a slight yelp escaped his mouth.
When Han Minghong pulled his sword out, Han Mingze yelled out.
“Don't you have a backbone? Why are you still yelling? Hahahahaha!”
Han Minghong threw his sword to the ground and left the imperial study with a big smile.
The eunuch looked at the blood on Han Mingze's body and said, “Call the physician to take a look.” Then, he followed closely behind Han Minghong as he left.
Han Mingze covered his shoulder with his hand, blood flowing out from between his fingers. Not long after, the physician came, hurriedly treating and bandaging him.
He looked at the blood on his hands, a cold light in his eyes. This blood debt– one day he would make these people pay it back!
The Forbidden Palace.
The Empress Dowager leisurely sat in a rocking chair, basking in the sun on the second floor balcony. Nanny Meng brought a cup of tea up to her and said, “Master, is it really not necessary to make a move?”
“No, they can toss and turn if they want to, us two won't take our old bones to blindly partic.i.p.ate.” The Empress Dowager was in a good mood and wasn't worried about the palace rebellion.
“But, I just heard that the Emperor was injured.” Nanny Meng said.
“Young people, as long as they don’t die, bleeding a little is nothing.” The Empress Dowager glossed over the issue, not at all taking Han Mingze's situation into perspective. “They have their own plans, we should just watch... Today's weather is really good.”
Today's weather was indeed nice, with blue skies, white clouds, and a brightly s.h.i.+ning sun, yet the sunlight couldn’t brighten up the atmosphere of Feng Ming City.
The entire Feng Ming City was in a state of depression recently. Knowing about the s.h.i.+fts of power in the palace, many stores even closed their businesses. People couldn’t go out on the street as they wished. If they were taken to be suspicious characters, they would be arrested and tortured. Not many people could still come back alive after being caught.
Inside an ordinary residential house, Han Mingyi stood outside in the courtyard, looking at the northern sky. Hearing the sound of the gate opening, he turned his head and asked, “How is it?”
“We've already contacted the palace. We'll be replacing people in batches this evening and tomorrow night.” Leng San said.
“Where are Li'er and the others now?” Han Mingyi asked.
“Master, this subordinate was just about to notify you of this matter when news came from over there: the Princess Consort, Leng Yi, and the others left last night and lost contact with everyone this morning.” Leng San said.
“Lost contact? Did something go wrong?”
“No, they just suddenly disappeared out of thin air...”
“Disappeared out of thin air?” Han Mingyi looked at Leng San and asked, “None of the Flying Eagles could find any trace of them?”
