Little Cutie, Come Here (4)

Heh, found you.

Xie Fei slowly quirked the corner of his mouth, his slender eyebrows lifting up. A sliver of a smile floated up in his dark eyes.

Zhou Zhiwei and the others were still talking when Xie Fei extended his long legs, slowly and leisurely standing up. His hands lifted slightly, picking up his desk and heading towards the other side of the room. He set his desk directly directly behind Su Yin's chair.

Everyone was given a shock. They stared at the scene. Many girls started to gossip quietly, and even Su Yin turned around subconsciously. She recognized Xie Fei immediately.

Xie Fei was handsome, and his entire body carried an air of unrestrained roguishness. At first, he was the kind of person that girls liked, but because he didn't like to talk to others and he spent the entire day either skipping cla.s.s or sleeping, comparatively, girls liked Jiang Hui even more.

To be honest, on the whole, Xie Fei's fame could be said to be even greater than Jiang Hui. It was just that he became known to everyone as someone to be feared, that's all. Before a month of school pa.s.sed, even the introverted Su Yin heard a lot of gossip about Xie Fei. Apparently, he was born with an extremely good background, and Yizhong was funded and established by his father. So even though his grades were poor, the heads sent him directly into the high school's Cla.s.s 1. According to rumors, there was even someone who had seen the teaching director acting reverent and deferential towards Xie Fei, who had an annoyed expression.

When they first heard this gossip, everyone still thought Xie Fei was arrogant and relied on his power. Many people secretly looked down on him, thinking he only dared to use his father's influence to show his strength at school.

But they only thought that until Xie Fei got in a fight with some people outside of school. One person picked apart ten opponents, and he strolled into the cla.s.sroom with his body full of bruises. He frightened the entire room of people, but he just sprawled onto his desk and went to sleep, completely indifferent.

From that fight, Xie Fei became famous as Yizhong's brilliant school tyrant.

In the midst of the gossip, Zhou Zhiwei and the others also stared at the scene in shock. Although they had prepared for this iron tree to flower, they had never thought Xie Fei would abandon them, brothers who would live and die together, in favor of a beauty.

Their hearts hurt. They were upset. They covered their b.r.e.a.s.t.s, reminiscing—

Xie Fei didn't give everyone's stares even a sliver of thought. He pulled out his chair, finding a comfortable position, and immediately put his head down on the desk and went to sleep.

After about another three minutes, the school bell rang. The literature came promptly into the cla.s.sroom, holding a book. At this time, most people still hadn't returned to their seats, still chattering loudly about what had just happened.

The literature teacher stood at the podium with a solemn expression. Seeing everyone talking excitedly, she smacked her book, getting everyone's attention. "Don't you know it's time for cla.s.s? If you haven't returned to your seats in three seconds, then go to the back of the cla.s.sroom and listen to the lesson standing!"

Everyone immediately scrambled into their seats. She finally looked at them in satisfaction, then her gaze paused on Xie Fei, who was sitting in the furthest row next to the door. She raised her hand to point at him, frowning. "Who's that, why is he sleeping during cla.s.s?"

The cla.s.s was silent. They turned around uniformly to look at Xie Fei. He was sprawled on the desk, in the middle of a sweet dream. He had no idea that tens of eyes were staring right at him.

The literature teacher's face went dark. She turned to look at Su Yin. "The girl sitting in the second seat one row from the back—"

Su Yin raised her eyes in shock, pointing at herself blankly.

"Yes, you," the literature teacher said, nodding. "Wake up the cla.s.smate sitting behind you."

Su Yin widened her eyes. She turned around, patting the desk. In a quiet voice, she called, "Hey, wake up, wake up, it's time for cla.s.s."

Xie Fei, sprawled out in his sleep, grunted unhappily. He moved a bit, slowly raising his head. His cold and sleepy eyes looked directly at Su Yin, causing the pit of her stomach to tighten.

Su Yin hurriedly lowered her eyes, avoiding Xie Fei's gaze. Her cheeks slightly flushed. She said quietly, "It's time for cla.s.s, the teacher had me wake you up."

Her voice was sweet and soft, the ends of her ponytail trailing down her shoulders and blocking her palm-sized face. Some mischievous wisps of hair were tucked behind her rosy little ears. She was adorable.

Staring fixedly at Su Yin's ears, Xie Fei's heart felt a bit itchy. The hands resting on the table couldn't help but secretly rub twice. At this time, the literature teacher's surprised voice came. "Xie Fei? Why did you sit over there?"

Xie Fei sat up lazily, shrugging. "The sun's too bright over there. It's hard to sleep."

In a second, the literature teacher's face turned stormy. In the end, she restrained her fury, lowering her head helplessly. "Cla.s.s, open your textbooks to the ninth page. Today, we're going to learn…"Please read at yanyantls dot wordpress dot com. If you are reading this elsewhere, it has been stolen from me.

Another week pa.s.sed like this. Today, the homeroom teacher Tang Xuehui brought a late-arriving transfer student into the cla.s.sroom. Wei Xiaoqin stood at the podium, her hair tied in a half-up crown braid1, wearing a tulle skirt, smiling sweet and cute.

"h.e.l.lo everyone, I'm Wei Xiaoqin." As she spoke, she turned and took a piece of chalk to write on the blackboard stroke by stroke, then continued, "Because of my heart disease suddenly acted up, I rested for a month, and could only report to school today. I have a lot of hobbies, such as listening to music and reading. They're all more quiet interests. En… Actually, I also like exercising, but because of my heart disease I can't exercise. I hope I can get along well with everyone in the next three years of school. Thank you."

When the students sitting down heard the words "heart disease", they began to whisper. After Wei Xiaoqin finished talking, spa.r.s.e and scattered applause sounded.

From the side, Tang Xuehui swept his gaze the cla.s.sroom. He raised his hand to point at Su Yin, saying, "Wei Xiaoqin, sit next for Su Yin for now. After next week's checkpoint test, we'll arrange seats by grades again." As he spoke, he turned again to look at Su Yin. He instructed, "Su Yin, I'll leave the new student to you then. If there's anything she doesn't understand, help her out. Let her look at your notes and a.s.signments from the previous cla.s.ses."

Su Yin nodded her head, making a noise of agreement. Wei Xiaoqin walked to her seat and sat down, hanging her bag on the back of the seat, then taking out her pencil case and books.

Wei Xiaoqin snuck a glance at her deskmate, sizing her up. Seeing her concentrating on the lesson, she hesitated for a bit, then poked Su Yin's arm. She said quietly, "Your name is Su Yin, right?"

Su Yin's writing hand paused. She nodded silently, then continued to take notes.

Wei Xiaoqin didn't mind Su Yin's att.i.tude. She smiled excitedly. "I'm Wei Xiaoqin. The xiao from big and small and the qin from piano, Wei Xiaoqin2." As she spoke, she extended her right hand to Su Yin. "I'm excited to be your deskmate, I hope we can be good friends."

Su Yin raised her eyes, meeting Wei Xiaoqin's brilliant smile. She hesitated, putting down her pencil to shake her hand. Their touching palms gave her a numbing feeling.

Wei Xiaoqin's hand was warm and tender, just like her smile, causing Su Yin to smile back involuntarily. "I'm Su Yin. The su from Su s.h.i.+3 and the yin from music."

"Wow, we've got destiny together!" Wei Xiaoqin said, thrilled.

Su Yin blinked, puzzled. She didn't know where the destiny came from.

"Me, the qin from piano." Wei Xiaoqin pointed at herself excitedly, then pointed at Su Yin. "You, the yin from music."

Su Yin laughed in realization. With a dry smile, she agreed, "There really is some destiny."

Actually, she didn't really understand why Wei Xiaoqin was so moved, and didn't understand the logic of this phrase, but this didn't stop her from liking Wei Xiaoqin. When this lively and cheerful girl smiled, it was very warm.

Xie Fei had been awake since he heard the words "Wei Xiaoqin". He listened to the senseless dialogue with his chin propped on his hand. He couldn't help but snort.

Indeed they had destiny, but it was an ill-fated destiny.

Seeing the two of them speaking to each other happily, Xie Fei's thoughts slowly drifted away. Actually, Su Yin didn't know that after she had commit suicide jumping off a building, Wei Xiaoqin had gone crazy.

The night that Su Yin had died, Wei Xiaoqin was in Su Yin's dorm, putting away the remainder of her things. As she walked past the window, she suddenly saw a swaying figure downstairs, her body full of blood and walking towards Wei Xiaoqin. The figure stood at the stone stairs at the doors of the dorm, and slowly raised her head, earnestly staring at Wei Xiaoqin. Her hands extended. She kept muttering, "Xiaoqin… die with me, Xiaoqin… die with me…"

When Xie Fei returned to his senses, Wei Xiaoqin was pulling the sleeve of Su Yin's uniform, talking in a low voice. "Su Yin, let's eat lunch together today, okay?"

"Okay." Su Yin glanced at her sideways, nodding with a smile.

Wei Xiaoqin smiled in contentment. Not long later, she turned her head again and questioned, "What do you like to eat? I eat more light flavors, because of my heart disea…"

Xie Fei thought Wei Xiaoqin really was annoying. It had only been peaceful for two minutes before she started talking again. He extended his feet and kicked Wei Xiaoqin's chair leg with a duang!

Wei Xiaoqin was so shocked her heart began to pound. She covered her chest, turning around. She met with Xie Fei's provoking appearance and froze again. He was elegant and handsome, his slightly quirked lips carrying an air of roguishness. At the moment, he was looking down at his phone.

Her cheeks flushed unconsciously. She slowly pulled away the hand covering her chest. Softly, she said, "What did you kick my chair for?"

Xie Fei leaned back in his seat, raising his eyes to look at her. Coldly, he said, "You're so noisy, I can't hear the teacher."

Wei Xiaoqin froze, her face suddenly flaring up. She looked at the phone on his desk. The screen actually had Candy Crush4 on display. She bit her lip, retorting, "You aren't even listening—"

"How do you know I'm not listening?" Xie Fei sneered.

When Su Yin heard the two of them, Xie Fei's cool and clear voice carrying a hint of iciness, she quickly pulled at Wei Xiaoqin, wanting to remind her that Xie Fei was the infamously outstanding school tyrant. But Wei Xiaoqin had been spoiled rotten by her parents, and she raised her chin proudly, not to be outdone. "You— you didn't even take out your books, and…" As she spoke, her eyes went to Xie Fei's phone. Sounding wronged, she said, "And you're obviously playing games."

"You aren't an idiot, are you?" Xie Fei knitted his brows slightly, his brow brash. "Who told you that you need to use a book to listen to the teacher? I like to use my ears, isn't that allowed?"

Wei Xiaoqin was really angered by this. Her eyes red, she opened her mouth to speak, but Tang Xuehui's voice came. "Wei Xiaoqin, the blackboard is in front, why are you facing the back?"

"I…" Wei Xiaoqin turned her head, slowly standing up. She watched her cla.s.smates turning uniformly to look at her, and her proud ego couldn't take it anymore. Her little face burned. She opened her mouth to say something, and boiling hot tears surged from her eyes.

When Tang Xuehui saw her crying, he was disturbed. To him, Wei Xiaoqin was delicate, like a crystal doll that would break as soon as you touched it. He helplessly waved his hand. "Sit down, you've already missed a month of cla.s.ses. In the future, focus a little more, or I'm afraid you won't be able to catch up."

Wei Xiaoqin sat back down, burying her head in her arms, and began to cry silently.

Even bullying a girl.

Although the two of them had just met, Su Yin already thought of Wei Xiaoqin as a good friend. Although they really were at fault first, the way Xie Fei spoke was too cruel. And now Wei Xiaoqin was crying. Su Yin obviously chose to stand by her friend.

It was just that even though she was unhappy with Xie Fei's att.i.tude, she didn't dare to turn around to glare at him. She thought for a while, and in the end she only thought of pulling her seat forward to show her att.i.tude, and she gently patted Wei Xiaoqin on the back, quietly consoling her. Please read at yanyantls dot wordpress dot com. After cla.s.s, Su Yin pulled the red-eyed Wei Xiaoqin and left the cla.s.sroom. When the two of them finished eating lunch, Su Yin brought Wei Xiaoqin up the stairs to the school's roof. She twisted open the door with practiced ease and stepped into the open s.p.a.ce.

The azure sky was clear for miles, the warm sun s.h.i.+ning on the two of them. Their heads leaning against each other, they sat next to the railing, the gentle breeze caressing their ears.

It was the first time Wei Xiaoqin had come up to the roof. She squinted her eyes slightly, staring at the sky in a daze. She sighed in awe. "So nice."

"En, every time I'm in a bad mood I'll come here," Su Yin said, turning to Wei Xiaoqin. "How is it? It feels a lot better now, right?"

"A lot better. But that boy is so annoying. He was obviously picking a fight…" Wei Xiaoqin pouted, grumbling resentfully.

"Xiaoqin, in the future, don't set yourself against him. He's Yizhong's famous school tyrant. The entire school is his family's. If you set yourself against him, in the end it'll be you who gets the worst of it."

"School tyrant?" Wei Xiaoqin looked at Su Yin in surprise. Her face turned green and then white. After a long time, she choked out another sentence. "No wonder, so he was a poor student."Please read at yanyantls dot wordpress dot com. If you are reading this elsewhere, it has been stolen from me.

Her tone was full of disdain. When Su Yin heard it, she was shocked. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but in the end she shut it again.

She didn't know when it started that students with poor grades became synonyms with troublemakers. As long as they were bad students, any misdeeds had to be done by them, too. For example, fights, skipping cla.s.s, making mischief, telling lies… Many people didn't clarify the rights and wrongs of a matter, a.s.suming it would obviously be those students who were wrong.

But the people with good grades obviously had never done wrong before. They were obviously rule-abiding, good students, who did everything right, weren't they?

How could good or bad grades be used to judge a person's moral character?

Su Yin didn't know, but she was clear in her heart that Xie Fei wasn't wrong about today's matter. She and Wei Xiaoqin kept talking during cla.s.s, of course they would disrupt others. They were in the wrong. She didn't like Xie Fei's arrogant way of scolding them, but it didn't mean she didn't recognize Xie Fei's position.

Listening to Wei Xiaoqin continuing to chatter about how bad students were like this and like that, Su Yin felt a bit unhappy in her heart. She slowly leaned her head away from Wei Xiaoqin's. In that moment, she felt as if her heart was stifled and panicky.

In the next few days, Wei Xiaoqin stayed far away from Xie Fei. During cla.s.s, she wouldn't pull at Su Yin to talk anymore, changing to pa.s.sing notes. Contrarily, Xie Fei thought constantly of how to break apart their friends.h.i.+p, but he couldn't think of a single way. He could only stare wide-eyed as the two of them became closer and closer, eating together, leaving school together, and even going to the bathroom hand-in-hand.

The only thing he could rejoice in was that he and Su Yin had spoken a few times, although the contents were like this—

One morning during self-study time, Su Yin and Wei Xiaoqin walked in, chatting cheerfully, Xie Fei was angered until his liver hurt. As soon as Su Yin sat down, Xie Fei poked her back, looking for words when he had none. "Let me copy your homework."

Su Yin was startled at first. When she heard his words, she silently thought for a bit. She scooted her chair forwards a bit, ignoring him.

Xie Fei pulled his chair forward to match her, poking her a few more times. Su Yin was finally defeated by his persevering efforts. Not even turning her head, she put her homework on his desk without a single word.

After this, every time Xie Fei poked Su Yin, she would give him her homework without any prompting. But from start to finish, she didn't say a single word to Xie Fei, instead pa.s.sing notes frequently with Wei Xiaoqin. Xie Fei was anxious to the point he nearly suffered from excessive internal heat, but even he knew this couldn't be rushed, or it would push Su Yin even closer to Wei Xiaoqin's side.

Things changed very quickly. Before tonight's self-study cla.s.s, Zhou Zhiwei and the others came over dribbling a basketball, laughing together. "Fei-ge, let's go, let's play basketball!"

Xie Fei was currently in a gloomy mood, not knowing how to break Su Yin's and Wei Xiaoqin's relations.h.i.+p. He glanced at them, deciding to forget about this matter. He nodded to them, extending his legs and putting away his phone in a smooth movement. "Let's go."

When the sounds of the group's voices were far away, Wei Xiaoqin, who hadn't spoken for almost the entire day, finally let out a long, relaxed breath. She waved her right hand in the air, grumbling, "Finally, they've left. My hand's practically fallen off, I didn't even write this much for my notes."

Su Yin smiled wordlessly, staring at the book on the desk.

Wei Xiaoqin saw Su Yin focusing on her book. She knew Su Yin's family situation wasn't very good and that she needed the scholars.h.i.+p, so she sprawled onto her desk in boredom, looking all around the room.

A male student sat in a seat two rows ahead and diagonal. His figure was slender, and on him the ugly school uniform showed a clean and sharp flavor. At the moment, he was doing his homework, his head slightly lowered. The side of his face showed off his attractive features; his nose bridge was high, his brow handsome, his thin lips slightly lifted.

Wei Xiaoqin knew him. He was called Jiang Hui, and he was the entire school's famous man of the moment. His grades were exceptional, the teachers held him in high regard, and he was extremely friendly to all his cla.s.smates. He would explain the solution patiently to anyone who came to him with a question. He was modest and polite to girls. The outstanding Jiang Hui was extremely popular amongst girls. Many of the girls in the cla.s.s secretly liked him.

And she was one of those girls. Compared to the unruly and arrogant Xie Fei, Jiang Hui was different. He wasn't hot-tempered or cold. Instead, he was a warm, tender, and steady spell on them. Wei Xiaoqin had a different feeling as soon as she first saw him.

Only this outstanding kind of male student was worthy of her affections. Please read at yanyantls dot wordpress dot com. If you are reading this elsewhere, it has been stolen from me.

As she thought, Wei Xiaoqin couldn't resist but keep glancing at Jiang Hui. She couldn't help but want to understand him even more. She turned her head, biting her lip. She hesitated for a while before she tugged at Su Yin's sleeve, a blush rising on her cheeks. "Susu, how much do you know of Jiang Hui?"

"Jiang Hui?" Su Yin raised her head with a bit of surprise, glancing at the silhouette of his back. "I know a bit, I heard his family background is very good, his grades are very good, and he was the top scorer in the high school entrance exam…"

"Aiyo, I'm not asking that," Wei Xiaoqin hurriedly cut Su Yin off, scooting closer. As though she was too shy to speak her mind, she said, "I… I want to know if he has a girlfriend. You were in cla.s.s for over a month, you've talked about it before, right?"

Su Yin frowned, thinking. "I don't think so, I've never heard anyone talk about his girlfriend."

"That's good then." Wei Xiaoqin let out a sigh of relief, smiling to herself. She covered her burning cheeks in embarra.s.sment.

Su Yin looked at Wei Xiaoqin's smiling almond-shaped eyes with doubt, shaking her head in confusion and continuing to study.

When they finished reviewing the questions, Wei Xiaoqin pulled her seat over again, looking at Su Yin with equal parts nervousness and curiosity. Her face earnest, she said, "Susu, let me ask you something. You have to answer me honestly."

Su Yin nodded. "Okay."

"Do you— like Jiang Hui?" As soon as she asked, Wei Xiaoqin's hands curled up into fists under her desk, her eyes staring at Su Yin unwaveringly.

It was no wonder she was nervous. To be honest, Su Yin was way too pretty. Although her family background was poor, to fifteen- and sixteen-year-old teenage boys and girls, didn't they like people whose appearances were beautiful and whose grades were outstanding? And Wei Xiaoqin, other than her family background, she couldn't compete with Su Yin for the other two things. She didn't even have a healthy body. Like this, bitterness unwittingly floated up in her heart.

Wei Xiaoqin stared at Su Yin5 earnestly. Her appearance was completely nervous. Even her breathing was careful and cautious. Her almond-shaped eyes were full of antic.i.p.ation, her small face flushed pink. It was obvious she was a teenage girl yearning for love.

Su Yin shook her head. "I don't like him. I only like studying."

Wei Xiaoqin immediately beamed, pulling Su Yin's hand in excitement. "Really, Susu?" Su Yin nodded. Wei Xiaoqin's smile became even wider. "That's good! Susu, actually, I… I like Jiang Hui. Since you said you don't like him, then I'll remember what you said. You can't take it back, or I won't talk to you anymore."

Su Yin widened her eyes in surprise. She didn't understand what Wei Xiaoqin liking Jiang Hui had to do with not talking to her anymore, but hearing Wei Xiaoqin say it like that, she felt upset. The friends.h.i.+p that was extremely precious to her couldn't beat Wei Xiaoqin's feelings towards Jiang Hui. It made her grow a bit doubtful of her friends.h.i.+p.

After that night's self-study period, when they were walking to the bathroom, Su Yin didn't take Wei Xiaoqin's hand for the first time. But Wei Xiaoqin was relis.h.i.+ng in her own thoughts, and didn't notice the strangeness.

The next day was Friday. When the last period was about to end, Tang Xuehui raised his voice to remind everyone, "As soon as you come back next week, we're having our checkpoint test. Everyone going home this weekend, study properly, don't play around too much!"

Talking all at once, everyone gave a perfunctory agreement. Their hands moved quickly, putting away their things in rapid movements. As soon as the bell rang, they flocked outside.

Actually, a two day break was too short. During the Sunday night self-study session, if they weren't scribbling away at their homework with all of their might, they were hugging Buddha's feet in the face of impending danger and reviewing their homework. Except for one person.

Xie Fei sat in the very back, playing games. When Zhou Zhiwei finished copying the homework, he scrambled over eagerly, squatting next to Xie Fei. "Fei-ge, you're still playing games? Tomorrow is the test." As he spoke, he scooted over. Slyly, he added, "Me, Rocky, and the others have already copied the cheat sheet. Fei-ge, do you want a copy?"

"With my IQ, do I still need a cheat sheet?" Xie Fei glanced at Zhou Zhiwei. "I'll wreck you all in seconds, alright?"

Wei Xiaoqin wasn't there today. Because of her heart disease, the school had specially approved that she didn't need to come for the nighttime self-study sessions, so Su Yin had heard the entirety of the conversation between the two. She couldn't resist letting out a little laugh.

Zhou Zhiwei raised his head to look at Su Yin, looking as though he had seen the light. Even quieter, he said, "Fei-ge, if you want to play cool, don't step on your brothers' corpses! We're just shouldering our parents' expectations and our families' future. Even if we die, we can't be your supports."

"Supports?" Xie Fei swept his eyes over him indifferently. "Even if you pay me instead of getting paid, I don't want your support. You're insulting my intelligence."

"Fei-ge, be nice or I'll tell Jie-zi6 and the others and make you hit your own face7 in the future." Zhou Zhiwei unhappily used the best students of their group of school tyrants as a threat.

"Get lost. What are you staring at? Don't disturb my studies." Xie Fei focused on the screen of his phone, not even raising his head.

"Using studies as an excuse again!" Zhou Zhiwei gave him a disdainful look, then slid back into his seat. As soon as he told everyone else about it, Yang Jie and Luo Jiang immediately became unhappy. The two of them, the top students among the school tyrants, had been ruthlessly disdained! After the group of them discussed, as soon as cla.s.s ended they aggressively came to Xie Fei's desk. With a "slap!" they put down a sheet of Grandpa Mao8. "Fei-ge, do you dare to bet with us?"

"Not betting," Xie Fei said. "As the successors to socialism, we need to answer our country's call and refuse p.o.r.n, gambling, and drugs. Got it?"

Yang Jie and the others felt a burst of dizziness, simply unable to believe these were the words their Yizhong's school tyrant was saying.

They were still making a ruckus, but soon Tang Xuehui finished his meeting. As soon as he walked in the cla.s.sroom, he had the entire cla.s.s begin to rearrange the room for the test. The entire floor began to sound with wails of, "Ah, I haven't finished reviewing yet!"Please read at yanyantls dot wordpress dot com. If you are reading this elsewhere, it has been stolen from me.

In the next two days, the high school section had an unprecedented tranquility. Everyone was doing their best to answer the test questions.

When they finished testing, the boulder resting in everyone's hearts finally dropped away. People gathered in groups of twos and threes, discussing the answers together.

Zhou Zhiwei sprawled lifelessly at his desk, laughing bitterly. "Rocky, your Wei-ge might be living in deep waters and hot fires in the abyss off suffering for the next month. My room and board, I'll leave it all to you."

Liu Yan patted his chest loyally. "No problem. I've already ordered a box of instant ramen online, we can split it half and half."

Zhou Zhiwei: "…"

At that moment, Xie Fei strode over with his hands in his pockets, his aura was full of delight. He hooked his chair over, finding a comfortable position to sit.

Liu Yan asked frankly, "Fei-ge, your mood's pretty good, did you do well on the test?"

Xie Fei's lips quirked up. "Hey, I beat you all."

Zhou Zhiwei was about to speak when the cla.s.sroom suddenly burst with surprised voices. "Wow, Jiang Hui, you're so awesome! You can even solve such a hard question!"

"Yeah, for these big questions I can generally only do the first part. I still don't know what to pick between three or four choices."

"This time's first place is definitely you. Ugh, I just hope I can place in the grade's top ten and I'll be happy."

Everyone's gazes flicked over there, seeing Jiang Hui in the center of the group like the center of the universe. He waved his hands modestly. Xie Fei's eyes flashed with a sliver of laughter, his eyes faintly catching on Wei Xiaoqin and Su Yin who had just entered.

Wei Xiaoqin's sparkling eyes looked towards Jiang Hu, her little face flus.h.i.+ng slightly red. As soon as he saw her absent-minded appearance, Xie Fei knew he had his chance.

As expected, after the cla.s.s meeting Friday, Tang Xuehui came in holding the test's grade rankings. But before a.n.a.lyzing the grades, there was still one more important thing they had to do.

Tang Xuehui stood at the podium, looking at everyone. Slowly and leisurely, he said, "The results from the test are out. Now, everyone, go out to the hall and stand in two rows. Whoever I call can come in and pick their seat."

The cla.s.s immediately rose in an uproar. Everyone started confirming their seats with their friends. Wei Xiaoqin and Su Yin were no exception.

Tang Xuehui urged everyone from the podium. Wei Xiaoqin pulled Su Yin's hand over, saying hurriedly, "Susu, you definitely did better than I did, you absolutely can't abandon me, okay? Let's not switch seats, okay?"

"Okay." Su Yin nodded, smiling.

To Su Yin, sitting anywhere was actually all the same, but if she could sit a bit closer to the front, she would definitely be willing to to sit at the front. After all, the couple of rows in the back were very noisy during the night self-study sessions. Often, there would be the alluring smell of instant ramen. It really disturbed her focus.

But as Wei Xiaoqin said, although her grades weren't bad, they were still far from being able to compete with Su Yin's. If Su Yin switched to sitting up front, there was a good chance they wouldn't be able to sit at the same desk.

In this cla.s.s, and even in the entire school, Wei Xiaoqin was her only friend. Because of that, of course she wouldn't hesitate to agree.

Since Su Yin thought this way, she didn't change seats. But Wei Xiaoqin did.

Wei Xiaoqin had actually never thought that when she walked into the cla.s.sroom, the first thing she saw wouldn't be Su Yin, but instead Jiang Hui. The teenager sat alone, the sun s.h.i.+ning slightly on his face. In that moment, his brow was tender, causing her heart to skip a beat. Unconsciously, she walked to him and sat down at his side.

When she returned to her senses, there was already no way to change seats.

Wei Xiaoqin hurriedly turned her head to look at Su Yin sitting in the back. Seeing her lonely expression, she actually felt a bit remorseful, but in her heart there was even more happiness and excitement.

She, Wei Xiaoqin, had become deskmates with her male G.o.d. She felt so happy that she could faint.

Half of the cla.s.s had already come in and picked their seats. The people outside pressed against the windows, looking inside with all their might. Zhou Zhiwei and the others were in the very back, betting about the rankings of their school tyrant group.

Right at that moment, Tang Xuehui's voice paused for a second, slowly reading, "Xie Fei, rank twenty-seven."

Everyone: "…"

It became totally silent. Xie Fei strode out of the back.

Zhou Zhiwei said in realization, "I didn't have an auditory hallucination, did I? Just now he said Fei-ge?"

The honest kid, Liu Yan, stared at Xie Fei's back with glowing eyes. "Our boss is really too awesome!"

Yang Jie touched his chin, looking thoughtful. "Could it be… Fei-ge was actually fooling us all along?"

"Oh? I had never thought he had hid it so well. It seems that I've underestimated him," Luo Jiang agreed.

Zhou Zhiwei suddenly shook his head, pasting on a pained expression. "Treacherous, too treacherous! Fei-ge was actually cheating my little heart, and for three years!"

In the midst of the shocked stares and the shouts for punishment, Xie Fei walked into the cla.s.sroom. He glanced around before heading directly for his original seat. He hesitated for a second, then turned and sat down next to Su Yin.

Su Yin was originally in a daze, her head lowered, when the faint scent of green bamboo suddenly wafted over from the side, fresh and pleasant. She unconsciously raised her hand to look over, just at the right moment to meet Xie Fei's eyes. His eyes were gentle, a slight smile on his face. His cold eyes stared right into her.

Su Yin turned to escape from his burning gaze, her cheeks turning pink. She lowered her head, the tips of her ears red. During their interactions in the last two weeks, Su Yin had actually already realized Xie Fei wasn't like what the gossip said about him. He wasn't vicious and merciless or unreasonable. Instead, he was often very cute. As soon as cla.s.s started, he got sleepy. His favorite thing to do was play puzzle games and hang out with his friends. He wasn't like the haughty rich kid in the rumors at all.

At first, she thought his grades were bad, but it seemed he was actually pretty smart. It was just that she didn't know why he sat next to her. She and Xie Fei hadn't interacted that often. His actions really made her imagination run wild.

The names of the school tyrants were read one by one and they entered the cla.s.sroom as well. Almost everyone saw Xie Fei sitting next to Su Yin and had a huge shock. They scrambled over to find seats around Xie Fei.

Zhou Zhiwei and Liu Yan sat right in front of Xie Fei. As soon as they sat down, Zhou Zhiwei looked at Xie Fei sternly. "You're too treacherous, you actually pretended to be a pig so you could eat the tiger. It's lucky that we didn't bet with you, or laozi's pants would be totally lost to you."

"Wei-ge, don't worry, I've got lots of pants. I can lend them to you," Liu Yan said loyally.

"Get lost, laozi was talking about underwear."

"I don't mind lending you my underwear either—"

"I mind!" Zhou Zhiwei smacked the back of Liu Yan's head with his big palms angrily. "Isn't sharing underwear just like being gay? Laozi's s.e.xual orientation is f.u.c.king normal, okay?"

In the midst of their noisiness, Su Yin, who was originally in a bad mood, couldn't help but feel amused. She laughed, watching them make a ruckus. Turning to see Wei Xiaoqin's back in front of her, she thought of all the little things they had done together. In her confused mind, a sliver of doubt rose— was her and Wei Xiaoqin's friends.h.i.+p really as deep as she had thought?

Or was it that it was just because the two of them both happened to be lonely, so they partnered up and kept each other company?

Maybe it didn't matter if it was her or if it was Wei Xiaoqin. They could both eat with someone else, whisper gossip with someone else, go to cla.s.s and leave cla.s.s with someone else, hold hands with someone else…

They both weren't the one person in each other's life. It was just that were the one person for now. In the end, they were just pa.s.sing by each other. Please read at yanyantls dot wordpress dot com. If you are reading this elsewhere, it has been stolen from me.

Su Yin was organizing her thoughts. On the other hand, Wei Xiaoqin wasn't having a good time.

Before they changed their seats, Jiang Hui's deskmate was a boy who was good friends with him. The girls in the cla.s.s who secretly liked Jiang Hui didn't have too much enmity towards him. In order to compete fairly and not hurt anyone's feelings, the girls had privately agreed that none of them could sit around Jiang Hui a long time ago. They could only use their skills to compete during cla.s.s, night study sessions, and gym cla.s.s.

But now there was someone who broke this balance. Of course the girls were unhappy. Nearly all the girls were staring at Wei Xiaoqin with coldness and envy.

Being watched by countless cold and meaningful eyes, how would Wei Xiaoqin not notice? Now, she was secretly suffering. She had never thought that just by sitting next to Jiang Hui, she would draw so much envious hatred.

At the same time, she was secretly happy and proud. The man that she, Wei Xiaoqin, had her eye on was indeed the best. The more people envied her and talked about how great Jiang Hui was, the better it was. She would absolutely never let go of this outstanding person.

It was just that now the girls in the cla.s.s definitely wouldn't be willing to hang out with her anymore. As expected, there was only Su Yin. Only Su Yin was her good friend.

Wei Xiaoqin decided that when cla.s.s ended, she would immediately explain herself to Su Yin. Su Yin was so good at understanding others. She knew that Su Yin would definitely empathize with her troubles and forgive Wei Xiaoqin for ditching her this time.

After they finished changing seats, Tang Xuehui began to distribute the tests. In the middle of the calls, no one realized that Jiang Hui had turned his head, his expression gloomy. He was staring daggers at Xie Fei who was sitting next to Su Yin.

Only Xie Fei felt the dangerous aura. But this kind of "dangerous" was just what others thought was dangerous. His lips quirked with a slight smile. He slowly lifted his head to meet Jiang Hui's gaze directly, his eyes disdainful. He lifted his eyebrow in provocation: Come on, I'll play with you.

Jiang Hui's face turned even darker., his thin lips pursed into a tight line. He lifted a hand un.o.btrusively, giving Xie Fei a "you can't" signal.

Xie Fei smiled even wider. The atmosphere between the two of them s.h.i.+fted subtly, but not a single person detected it.

The people distributing the tests pa.s.sed them out to the first row, then the tests moved backwards row by row. Zhou Zhiwei sat in front of Xie Fei, so obviously he got Xie Fei's test. He impatiently opened it, giving the test an a.s.sessing glance.

What was called not knowing fear? Zhou Zhiwei fit the definition cleanly.

Before he saw Xie Fei's test, he could still console himself— Fei-ge had probably blindly guessed a few multiple choice questions correctly, causing his score to inflate substantially.

But now he had been given a resolute slap in the face. Not only were all of Xie Fei's test questions correct, every d.a.m.n question that he did got full points. The remaining questions that didn't get any points were completely blank. He hadn't even written answers.

Zhou Zhiwei handed the test to Xie Fei with two hands, shaking. Now, he was sincerely convinced. How was this b.a.s.t.a.r.d a bad student? He was simply a top student among top students— a genius.

Exactly, a genius!

Xie Fei's hands were currently around his phone, in the middle of playing games. He carelessly nodded, motioning for Zhou Zhiwei to toss the test on his desk. Who knew Zhou Zhiwei piously spread the papers one by one on his desk? With his focused expression, it looked as though he was spreading money instead.

Zhou Zhiwei's movements caught Su Yin's attention. She couldn't help but sneak a glance at the test, and was also given a shock. In her daze, she asked the question in her heart. "Xie Fei, why didn't you answer this question? The questions for politics, history, and geography were all in sequence. If you wrote something down randomly, you could still get points."

"I know," Xie Fei said calmly, raising his head to look at Su Yin. "There were too many words. I didn't want to write it."

Su Yin froze, not knowing what to say. She could only silently go back reading.

Zhou Zhiwei was also frozen by his words. At first, he though Xie Fei didn't know how to answer those questions. Now, it seemed that he had been too naive.

In his heart, he clutched the face that had been slapped swollen. Zhou Zhiwei sighed reverently. "Awesome, really f.u.c.king awesome!"

Xie Fei's loyal-until-death little follower Liu Yan widened his sparkling eyes again. He added, "As expected of my boss, his way of thinking really is unique!

The author has something to say:
Xie Fei: It's time to show my true strength!
Zhou Zhiwei: *slapping his face*
Xie Fei: The two tyrants are in my hands, everything under the world is mine!
Zhou Zhiwei: *slapping his face*

T/N: why does Xie Fei sound like he came straight out of an anime in the extra p l s

Also I recently read a post about how people are more likely to comment if the translator has their own notes… so I may be popping in here more lol. To be honest, I'm a lurker myself, so I understand why people don't comment since I'm exactly the same way, but as a translator I like to see comments hehe. Support me by leaving comments ヽ(・ω・)ノ

One more thing! I noticed that the original summary was missing from the NovelUpdates page T_T I don't know if someone removed it but… Please keep the original summary there T_T

1↩: It's called a "princess braid" in Chinese. 公主頭 is a general name for half-up hairstyles, so I'm a.s.suming it looks something like this

2↩: She's saying phrases that include the characters from her name to explain how it's written/spelled. Chinese has a lot of h.o.m.ophones, so just hearing it doesn't necessarily mean you'll know how to write it. Su Yin does the same thing later.

3↩: Su s.h.i.+ lived in the Song dynasty and is one of the most accomplished figures of Chinese literature. Read more about him here.

4↩: Actually, the original text says 消消樂 (Anipop) but I feel like for us English readers it has a better immediate effect with Candy Crush. I haven't played Anipop before, but it looks like the same kind of matching game (but with animal icons instead).

5↩: Original text said "Su Yin stared at Wei Xiaoqin earnestly".

6↩: He's referring to Yang Jie. 子 (zi) is an affectionate suffix like 兒. Actually, I've never seen it before as a suffix, but I think that 子 is more masculine?

7↩: I mentioned this once before, but in Chinese, face = reputation. Hitting/slapping your (or someone else's) face is usually like embarra.s.sing someone.

8↩: Referring to Mao Zedong, whose face is on Chinese bills.
