He stepped on the accelerator without warning. The car sped along the busy highway in the after-hours traffic.
Lu Zhaoyang was caught off guard.
What happened?
She turned back and looked, but did not see anything amiss. “What’s wrong?”
“The second car on the right behind us has been following us for almost fifteen minutes.” He looked almost excited.
It had been awhile since he last did anything like this.
“They could be heading toward Rong City too.”
Lu Zhaoyang naively gave them the benefit of doubt.
The road was straight all the way. Was Huo Yunting being paranoid now?
“Maybe.” Huo Yunting answered carelessly but did not slow down the car.
Once they left the elevated road, the traffic began to disperse. The road was wider now. The car was still following behind them. Even Lu Zhaoyang began to suspect their intentions.
Suddenly, they heard a bang!
Lu Zhaoyang jumped in surprise and stared at Huo Yunting.
… Were they being fired at?
“Don’t worry. I’m here.”
Huo Yunting kept one hand on the steering wheel and took a quick glance at the rearview mirror. The other driver pushed his sungla.s.ses up and smiled gallingly.

Lu Zhaoyang shut her eyes on instinct and said, “Shoot at the tyres so they won’t be able to follow us!”
Huo Yunting chuckled at her advice. “You should pray that our tyres are not shot first.”
He loaded the gun smoothly while he sped up the car even faster.
The car behind them followed suit.
Huo Yunting’s eyes narrowed. He looked at her and said, “Stay down, Lu Zhaoyang.”
She obeyed immediately.
If something happened to her during this trip, she would definitely bring him down with her!
However, when he looked up again, the car took a right turn and disappeared from sight.
He frowned dangerously.
Lu Zhaoyang waited for a few minutes she slowly sat up straight again. She looked wide-eyed at him and asked, “What happened?”
“They left.”
Huo Yunting put the gun casually on the dashboard and put back both his hands on the steering wheel.
The car was gone, but he did not lower his guard. When they reached the next intersection, he turned the car back.
If he was alone, he would be open to doing something riskier.
However, he had a pa.s.senger with him.
Lu Zhaoyang was more confident of him in situations like these. She sat up and studied the cars around them.
Everything seemed normal.
Nevertheless, the shots fired on their car still left her in shock.
“Do you have any idea who could be behind this?” Lu Zhaoyang asked.
“I don’t.” Nothing of note happened recently, so the incident baffled him just as much.
Lu Zhaoyang noticed him quieting down in thought and did not disturb him further. The rest of the drive was silent.
Huo Yunting sent her back to her apartment and left. Lu Zhaoyang knew that he was going to investigate further, so she left him alone and went back to her place.
She was about to reach the third floor when something stopped her in her tracks.
She stared at the man standing outside her apartment and recognized his face!
