Huo Chen did not say anything after and Wen He went silent too.
They watched the river together without a word. Somewhere behind them, the special operations team led by Huo Chen was setting up camp.
They found an abandoned warehouse and converted it into a makes.h.i.+ft base. Armed soldiers took turns patrolling to keep an eye out on enemy forces.
Suddenly, Huo Chen’s comms device flashed in red.
He stood up promptly and headed back to base.
Wen He was not too far behind him.
“What happened?”
He stepped into the base and asked.
Song Shou saluted him and said, “Sir, one of our patrol units spotted the last three members of the organization. Should we pursue?”
“Immediately!” Huo Chen’s eyes lit up. “Deploy the first squad right away.”
“Yes sir!”
Huo Chen split their thousand-strong force into twenty squads, with fifty members each.
The first squad was deployed while the rest of special operations force stayed behind.
Half an hour, they received another sighting. Song Shou reported, “Sir, we spotted a few suspicious figures in the periphery, probably members of other syndicates in the Golden Triangle. Should we pursue?”
“Yes,” Huo Chen replied without expression. “There is no need to capture them alive.”
“Yes sir!”
From then on, it was a long, quiet period until night came.
