Nalan Chunbo’s gaze flickered towards the girl who was busy chatting and cooking with others, then he looked down and continued doing his work without responding to Uncle He.

The children of the fis.h.i.+ng village formed groups and played around the beach. The atmosphere was very lively.

It was past seven o’clock when dinner was finally ready. The dishes were arranged nicely on two long tables. No benches were prepared so everyone could just eat whatever they liked around the tables. There was no need for them to sit down at all.

It was their annual harvest celebration so the villagers’ laughter and chatter filled the air. Nalan Chunbo walked to the piano they had prepared earlier and stretched his fingers. A round of applause was heard. Wen Shan searched for the song that she wanted to perform, then put it in front of Nalan Chunbo.

Wen Shan smiled brightly and said, “This one, this one. I want to sing this song.”

There was only sheet music without a song t.i.tle so he did not know what song it was. He could only play the song based on the sheet music given.

Wen Shan cleared her throat and started singing.

Wen Shan had a musical voice and was very talented in singing. However, the song lyrics made Nalan Chunbo pause, and his fingers slowed down over the piano keys.

Nalan Chunbo raised his head and his gaze met Wen Shan’s. Her eyes were s.h.i.+ning brightly as usual but there was a hint of sadness in them.

Nalan Chunbo’s heart sank. He had hurt the girl.

He had been trying to avoid it but it had still happened in the end.

Once the song ‘Confession Balloons’ which was dedicated to him ended, Wen Shan purposely avoided Nalan Chunbo’s stare and smiled at the audience. “This is our special gift to all of you.”

“Well done!” The villagers were very supportive and gave them thunderous applause, also reminding them to enjoy the food.

Nalan Chunbo observed Wen Shan who jumped down from the staircase to join the villagers. Her smile was so bright and joyful.

His lips curved upwards and his fingers started to play the piano keys gently. A soft and soothing song filled the air.

Bai Ying caressed her cat while observing Nalan Chunbo playing the piano. “What happened?”

Although Bai Ying did not know what had happened, Nalan Chunbo had grown up under her care since young. As his aunt, she still could tell if his mood had changed whenever he was having a problem.

Nalan Chunbo had never told Bai Ying about the whole incident and he strongly believed that his uncle did not reveal anything to his aunt in the letter as well.

Once Nalan Chunbo finished playing the last note, he turned to Bai Ying and rea.s.sured her, “Everything’s fine. It’s just that traveling to many places made me realize that my previous lifestyle was too tiring.”

“If you don’t feel like telling me, that is fine, but your sister is worried about you,” Bai Ying cut him off, knowing that he was lying.

Nalan Chunbo looked down to hide the emotions in his eyes. He was fully aware of Ye Yuwei’s worry, which was why he was so reluctant to return.
