Rhaen and the elder circulated their energy to withstand the oppression but it was to no avail. Cracks started to appear around the hut and Rhaen and the elder cough up blood.
"Honey stop!! Please! Rahz is OK."
Etta retracted her holy energy and made her way to the bed where her son was lying down and started checking his injuries.
'Looks like the Elder was able to cast a Rejuvenation on Rahz to heal his wounds; however, looks like the second part of the spell is not working due to the damage to his cells.' After determining the state of her son's injuries, Etta began to chant a holy spell. It sounded half like a song and half like a poem, It was very soothing. As the aura of energy around Etta's body became more and more intense, the feeling of holiness around the room intensify even more.
Suddenly, a pillar of holy light descended on top of Rahz illuminating the whole room. Rahz external wounds started to heal at a visible rate but the real miracle was happening at the cellular level.
"Too strong" Said the elder under his breath.
When the light finally resided from the room. Rahz laid there with a peaceful smile on his face. It was as all very dream like . If it wasn't for the scars on his belly and chest, there would have been no indication that Rahz had ever been injured.
Etta inspected her son one more time to make sure everything was alright and turn around to face the Elder and her husband. In her hands very quickly a divine spark was condense and with a serious expression on her face she asked, " Who is responsible for the east side of the test? Why is he not here?"
Seeing the situation starting to get out of hand, Rhaen quickly step in and stopped his wife. "I am sure that there is a good explanation for this. Once Elder Wolf returns he will be able to tell us exactly what happened. Right now he is checking on the other kids making sure they are alright Since Rahz is already out of any type of danger why don't you put that spark away".
Watching his wife calming down a little let Rhaen relax a bit. He came close to his wife and guide it her to the Severed head of the bear and asked her in a very Excited tone, "What do you see?"
Etta quickly move her gaze to the severed head and looked attentively. For a moment she couldn't find any clues as to why her husband was acting so giddy until her gaze stop on the knife stuck inside the bear's eyeball. Two days ago her husband had gifted this exact knife to Rahz in case something happen and he didn't manage to use his Axe.
Looking at her husbands smug face, she knew he was proud of what Rahz had accomplished. She proceeded to inspect the body of the bear and after careful consideration she determined that the bear was at level 7 and that its head was severed by a very sharp edge.
The clues supported the notion that it might have been Rahz the one that defeated the bear and it would also explain why her husband was so delighted. However, the fact remain that the village did not properly take care of the safety of the children and it almost cost her son his life.
"Seeing that my son is no longer in any danger, I will give the elder some face and wait for an explanation as to why a level 7 beast manage to sneak inside the 50 mile mark".
The elder's face manage to ease up a little and said, " I am sure that there is a perfectly good explanation for this incident and once Elder wolf returns we will give lady Etta an Account".
Rahz 's mother looked at the elder and smirk. Etta then proceeded to see besides her son while holding his hand.
In the area 50 miles northeast of the village Bhirl had achieved LVL 5 and was getting ready to head back to the village to complete the test. Elder wolf had decided to stick around the area to make sure no beast outside the range designated for the test headed in.
"Looks like that level 7 was an isolated incident. Rahz's luck is really bad or really good depending on how you look at it."
The elder kept his distance from the zone where the awakened children were hunting in order to no affect them in a negative way. When he saw that Bhirl had finished leveling up and was getting ready to head back he gave a sigh of relief. This allowed him to head to the village and explain what happened to the first Elder. He knew that the longer he took the worst the situation might be.
Unfortunately, the elder spoke too soon. At a distance of 100 ft from the elder a ma.s.sive Cat was stalking his way towards the chief's son. It was fairly easy to determine the level of beast as most of them had distinct characteristics. For example in the case of the bear that attack Rahz in addition to the size of the beast being bigger the higher the level, their fur will start changing color towards the next evolution.
The elder knew extremely well the characteristics of the Frostsaber trying to attack Bhirl. Frostsabers were a favorite of the Beastlords in the village due to their majesty and elegance.
As a warder pet, the cat family was highly sought after due to their ferocity and their ability to deal high burst of damage at higher levels.
After observing the Frostsaber for a few seconds, he was able to determine that it had 8 stripes along his body representing an 8 level of cultivation. The distance between the saber and Bhirl was way too close. He had notice the beast too late and even if his Level was way higher than the Frostsaber, he couldn't make it in time.
Bhirl was oblivious to the imminent danger he was in.
The Frostsaber determined he was within range for a successful kill and activated dash increasing his speed by 20%.
The Elder desperately activated the spell spirit of the wolf further increasing his speed by 20% and rush towards Bhirl. Not knowing what else he could do to alert the young lord, he howled as hard as he could.
The past 2 days in the forest had provided Bhirl with enough combat experience to realize that danger was coming his way. He had just a.s.sumed a battle position when he felt a cold air coming towards his back. He tried to turn as quickly as he could while activating Strengthen Defense to offset some of the damage but it was a joke.
How could a level 5 strengthen Defense be compare to the attack power of a level 8 Frostsaber's claw. The timely turn of his body manage to deflect one if the claws with part of the s.h.i.+eld but the other one stroke him in the chest.
CRACK!! TEAR!!!!
The sound of broken bones was heard followed by the distinct sound of fabric tearing. Bhirl flew backwards 11 ft and tumble across the floor. His s.h.i.+eld flew from his hand and he was defenseless against the Frostsaber.
The only thing that kept him from pa.s.sing out was the excruciating pain coming from his chest. When he look down, Bhirl was able to see his bones before the blood started to flow from the 4 ravines on his chest.
Bhirl was a follower of Yuna the G.o.ddess of Justice as such the increase cell regeneration from the blessing will help him overcome this injury, all he need it was time. Time that the Frostsaber would definitely not give him.
Inadvertently being push back about 11 feet saved his life. As the Frostsaber dash in for the kill, it was stop in his tracks by a powerful bubble that warded Bhirl from the attacks of the Beast. Elder Wolf was a level 15 Shaman and his Ancestral ward could withstand a full hit from a LVL 15 beast before breaking, the Ward was something that a level 8 Frostsaber could never break with one attack.
The elder quickly cast the Healing spell rejuvenation on Bhirl and turned his attention to the beast. Realizing that this new enemy was not somebody the Frostsaber could take on, it decided to flee.
The Frostsaber turn around and try to run for it but very soon it found out that its speed had slowed down. The elder used Icy Winds to decreased the speed of the Frostsaber by 30% but the Cold resistance of the beast managed to decrease the amount of the slow. Despite the Saber's resistance, the cold still crept into its bones.
Taking this opportunity, the elder called upon Keres the fly, the spirit of rot and disease, forming a weak bond. Through this bond, The elder casted the spell Rot Flesh onto the Frostsaber. This spell call upon Flesh eating bacteria to eat away flesh and muscle of the recipient. Once the spell landed, it started consuming skin and muscle in real time. The flesh eating bacteria only had a life span of 30 seconds but the amount of flesh it could eat was quite impressive. Higher levels of the spell increased the concentration of bacteria and the strength.
Unfortunately for the Frostsaber the difference in level was too big. Some of the skin and flesh started falling in little pieces while others disappeared out of thin air. Blood ooze out of the wounds as well as pus. It was a very gruesome sight, every 5 seconds the bacteria would digest and take another bite eating as much as it could. After everything was set and done, all it was left behind was a half eaten carca.s.s.
Seeing the carca.s.s of the Frostsaber fall to the ground finally gave the elder a minute of respite. Elder wolf turned around to check on Bhirl when suddenly a feeling of danger a.s.sailed him...
