Xin Zhiyu suddenly interrupted his father, “Dad, calm down! This person has never been a friend of our Xin family. If you tell him, he will just leave and won't help our family.”
Xin Changjiang closed his mouth instantly.
Ning Tao stood up abruptly and slapped Xin Zhiyu's face.
A clear slap across the face jolted Xin Zhiyu. He was stunned and then shouted angrily, “You dare to slap me!”
His voice just fell, and Ning Tao waved his left hand to gave one more slap on Xin Zhiyu's other cheek.
Snapped! Another loud voice! Stinging fingerprints appeared on Xin Zhiyu's cheeks. His eyes seemed to spurt out of fire, and he screamed, “You…”
Snapped!
This was the third slap, much heavier than the second one. Xin Zhiyu's face was crooked, with a trace of blood flowing out of the corner of his mouth. This time, he closed his mouth finally.
Meng Bo and several special policemen saw it, but no one came to stop him. Especially Meng Bo, he even turned around deliberately, pretending not to see anything.
Xin Changjiang stood up and yelled furiously, “You… How can you beat my son? If you do want to, just beak me!”
Ning Tao said coldly, “How can you not feel ashamed to say that? For the three slaps, the first one was made for you. You raised your son, but did not teach him well. Look, what kind of person have you taught?”
“You…” Xin Changjiang was in fury.
Ning Tao continued to say relentlessly, “I've made it very clear. You're not a fool. You should know how dangerous the situation is for your wife. But even though your son knows his mother is in danger, he still stops you from telling me the truth. He only cares about himself. Does he care about his mother? If you are hijacked, do you expect that he will save you?”
Ning Tao's forceful words silenced Xin Changjiang immediately.
Ning Tao went on saying, “The second slap is for his mother. She is so clever that she is willing to do whatever she can to achieve her goal. “She even set a trap to me, but I don't hate her. And even to some extent, I understand her. Do you know why? As a woman, she was willing to set herself in danger for the sake of protecting her husband and child. She did not fear death, as long as she could protect you. But you! You are still here to haggle over the gains and losses. Isn't it pitiable?”
Xin Zhiyu was totally flattened by Ning Tao's words.
Ning Tao said again, “The third slap is for myself. You, a wealthy young man, tried to find some superiority over me. It's fine, and I could overlook it. But you cannot ha.s.sle me again and again merely because you lost face in provoking me. Do you think I am good-tempered, so you can bully me as you like? Do you think money can make you do as you please? Do the laws work for you? Well, I will give you one more slap, and just call the police to catch me.”
Ning Tao raised his hand again.
Xin Zhiyu dodged it subconsciously, but Ning Tao did not slap him and just wanted to scare him.
Ning Tao said coolly, “Xin Zhiyu, sometimes the laws cannot protect you, like now. I can beat you or not.”
Xin Zhiyu covered his face and looked at Meng Bo out of the corner of his eye. Although Meng Bo just stood back to them, he did not react to it at all.
The law sometimes had blind spots.
“I ask you last time, where is the authentic skull?” Ning Tao stared at Xin Changjiang and said more coldly, “If you are unwilling to tell me what you've known, but Bai Sheng grills your wife to know where the skull fragment is and takes it away first, your family will be put into jail without a doubt! I think, the ancient buildings full in your house are gained illegally. Right? Once investigated, any cajolery and coercion, bluff and deception will be brought to account one by one!”
Xin Changjiang wiped the cold sweat on his forehead and said, “I say. I know where it is. I can take you there.”
Xin Zhiyu's lips moved, but this time he did not stop his father.
“Mr. Ning, please come with me.” Xin Changjiang said and showed the way.
Ning Tao asked Meng Bo to come, “Brother Meng, just come with us.”
Ning Tao nodded and followed them.
Led by Xin Changjiang, Ning Tao, Meng Bo, and Xin Zhiyu came to the ancestral hall of the Xin family. Entering it, Xin Changjiang walked straight to the wall behind the baldachine and pressed the brick of “Level Eight”. When the secret pa.s.sage was opened, he arched his back and walked in.
Ning Tao was rather curious and said to himself, “I have come here with Senior Yin before. Senior Yin knew well the layout here, including the mechanisms. However, he and I failed to find any clue about the real skull fragment. Where will it be hidden?”
In the underground burial chamber, the stone door was open. Meng Bo turned on his flashlight and sent the beam inside the chamber. The stone sarcophagus was right in the middle of the burial chamber. It seemed to preserve the “crime scene”, so the ash at the foot of the sarcophagus was not cleaned at all.
Xin Changjiang went straight to the front of the sarcophagus, knelt on the futon and kowtow three times to show his respect. Then, he picked himself up and walked to the side of the sarcophagus. He tried to push its cover, but it weighed several hundred pounds. He was unable to push it.
“Let me do it.” Ning Tao stepped forward and pushed the cover of the sarcophagus open.
The sarcophagus was empty but only a piece of yellowish white winding sheet in the bottom. Last time, when they opened the sarcophagus, they found the skull fragment. But Ning Tao and Yin Molan took it, covered the sarcophagus well and left. Neither of them ever uncovered the winding sheet.
“Was it under the winding sheet?”
Ning Tao had a brainwave and immediately awakened the smelling technique of his nose. But after investigating it, he could not smell anything about the skull.
However, the moment Ning Tao felt confused, Xin Changjiang said again, “Doctor Ning, could you please put the cover down and turn it over?”
Ning Tao directly carried the cover of hundreds of kilograms down, put it on the ground, and turned it upside down.
Inside the coffin cover was carved a picture of the sunset among the mountains and rivers. It was delicately carved.
Ning Tao's eyes fell on the sunset on the picture. He had already guessed where the secret was hidden.
Sure enough, Xin Changjiang squatted down and pressed the sunset. The sunset was protruding but dented after Xin Changjiang pressed it.
Then, a peak on the picture popped up. An innermost layer was exposed in which there was a piece of skull fragment. It looked exactly the same as the fake one, but the cyan handwriting was faintly visible on it.
When all the people's attention was fixed on the skull fragment, Ning Tao took out his cell phone and shot a short video against it. He tried his best to shoot the handwriting clearly.
Meng Bo looked back at Ning Tao.
Ning Tao put away his cell phone, but he realized that Meng Bo must have found he took the video secretly.
Meng Bo's lips moved, but he still did not say anything. Instead, he cast a glance at him and turned his head back.
Ning Tao knew that if he had not saved the special forces guards in the botanical garden of the Blueprint Biotechnology Company, Meng Bo would not turn a blind eye to him now. Those special forces guards might be Meng Bo's friends or brothers. All in all, there were some reasons.
Xin Changjiang reached out his hands, ready to pick up the skull fragment.
Meng Bo hooted, “Don't move it! It is the thing of hundreds of years old. What if it is broken?”
Xin Changjiang shrank his hands back.
Meng Bo said, “Doctor Ning, you do it. I trust you.”
Ning Tao nodded. He walked to it and took the skull fragment carefully. Although it had a history of hundreds of years, it did not contact with air, so it did not weather and still looked white. However, after contacting with the air in the tomb, the skull fragment was oxidized and turned yellow.
“Doctor Ning, can you check if it is real or not?” asked Meng Bo.
Meng Bo's words reminded Ning Tao. Ning Tao began to memorize the contents on the skull fragment. Although he had taken a short video, it was possible that some contents would be unclear or omitted. So, memorizing it meant to make it more a.s.sured.
Two minutes had pa.s.sed, and Ning Tao handed the skull fragments to Meng Bo and said, “Brother Meng, the skull fragment is true. You take care of it and deal with it when Jiang Hao arrives here.”
Meng Bo nodded, took off his hat and put the skull fragment into it.
Something suddenly occurred to Ning Tao, and he asked, “Well, where is the surveillance camera of the tomb?”
Xin Changjiang guiltily pointed at a clay brick above him.
Ning Tao looked at the direction of his fingers and found a black spot. Meng Bo took his tactical flashlight to s.h.i.+ne it, and the black spot became more obvious.
“Is this camera on?” asked Ning Tao.
Xin Changjiang gave a slight nod.
Ning Tao originally wanted to take a look at the terminal of the monitor and planned to find a chance to delete the previous surveillance video. But with a second thought, he decided to give up the plan. After all, he just took a short video and had a look at the skull fragment at Meng Bo's request. So he did not do anything wrong. What if he had been shot in the surveillance video?
“Go out. Let's go out. This thing in my hands makes me nervous,” said Meng Bo.
“Well, you need to handle it well.” Ning Tao said and followed Meng Bo to go outside.
Xin Zhiyu unexpectedly plucked up the courage to grab Ning Tao's arm and asked, “You'll save my mother, won't you?”
Ning Tao glanced at Xin Zhiyu's hand that grabbed his arm.
Xin Zhiyu felt nervous for no reason and loosened Ning Tao's arm hurriedly.
Ning Tao said, “Xin Zhiyu, do you know you are wrong?”
Xin Zhiyu lowered his head and then nodded.
Ning Tao said, “Do you remember what I've told you?”
Xin Zhiyu was taken back. Then, his legs went limp, about to fall on his knees.
Ning Tao offered his hands to hold on Xin Zhiyu and said, “I just said it. It is enough that you are willing to admit your fault and kneel down for your mother. For your filial piety, I will save your mother.”
“Thank you.” Xin Zhiyu's face was filled with shame.
Whosoever acted with filial piety was not a bad person.
However, whether Xin Zhiyu's mother could be saved or not depended on destiny.
