As night fell, it started to rain. The temperature had dropped significantly due to the autumn shower and the wind blowing from the river. The sudden downpour had chased all the people away from the harbor, only a few fis.h.i.+ng boats were left swaying in the waters. There was also a fairly luxurious yacht, which was lit up but there was no sign of people moving on it.

Ning Tao put down the G.o.d's Will electric motorbike's kickstand, and stood beside the bike, surveying his surroundings. It was 10 minutes before 8 p.m. when he and Tang Zixian had decided to meet, but there was not a person to be seen at the empty harbor. He furrowed his brows instinctively. “Is she fooling me?”

A sound came from behind him, like that of a kung fu master running rapidly across the water.

Ning Tao turned around and spread out the Unbreakable Fan as his other hand grabbed onto the Mauser pistol at his waist.

Yet, it was not Tang Zixian who was walking on water and charging toward him brandis.h.i.+ng a sword. Rather, it was a stray dog running across the road toward a garbage can.

Ning Tao found his anxiety laughable. However, since the person he was going to meet was Tang Zixian, having such a level of alertness was necessary.

The stray dog got up on its hindlimbs, its forelimbs propped on the garbage can. It seemed to have noticed some food in the can, but it was not able to push it over as it was fixed to the roadside, nor could it reach inside for the food with its paws like humans could.

“Woof… woof…” The stray dog had become anxious, and it sounded like it was sobbing.

Ning Tao's heart skipped a beat, so he charged a shred of spiritual power into “The Whisperer”.

The Whisperer was the name he had given to the Apocalypse smart.w.a.tch, which he had restructured from the rotten broken tripod.

Bai Sheng's Apocalypse smart.w.a.tch had a hologram projection function. It could even determine a person's heartbeat based on their speech, which could serve as a simple lie detector. Furthermore, there were also a bunch of other functions of leading cutting-edge modern technology. Of course, its most invincible function was still its ability to control a human brain upon activation, converting the wearer into a puppet.

However, the Apocalypse smart.w.a.tch restructured by the rotten broken tripod had lost its original functions, and had emphasized the functions of the cloudy ore.

Legend had it that the Feminine-moon people were able to realize speechless communication through brainwaves. This had been verified by the flashbacks to the past in Feminine-moon City. The Shennongjia primitives possessing a scary amount of strength were enslaved by the Feminine-moon people, who had commanded the Shennongjia primitives to work using the crescents on their foreheads drawn with ore powder, while the Shennongjia primitives could accurately complete their masters' instructions through such a form of communication.

Ning Tao had tried it before, but it did not succeed. Yet, he did not expect that the smart.w.a.tch, which was restructured in the rotten broken tripod and activated with spiritual power, would possess such a function. Before coming here, the poodle that had called him a fool was an example. Its voice was captured by the watch, then converted into sound data that he could understand and transmitted into his consciousness. That voice had resembled that of someone whispering into his consciousness.

Therefore, he had named the cultivation watch restructured by the rotten broken tripod “The Whisperer”.

Activated by spiritual power, snowflakes danced on the surface of the chrysoprase-like clockface, as a sorrowful voice appeared in Ning Tao's mind. “I'm hungry… I'm hungry… Master, where are you…”

The stray dog's eyes were moist. It was unclear whether it was from tears or rainwater.

The whispering had also emotionally affected Ning Tao, leaving a feeling of sadness in his heart, and he approached the stray dog. He had no food with him, so he had intended to help that stray dog get the food out of the garbage can for it to eat. But before he could get close to the garbage can, the stray dog ran away after hearing noises.

Ning Tao said, “Don't be afraid, I only want to take the food out for you.”

On the chrysoprase-like clock face, the snowflakes surged in the direction of the stray dog.

A miracle had occurred. That frightened stray dog seemed to have heard something and stopped running away, looking at Ning Tao fixedly.

Ning Tao thought to himself, “The Whisperer could indeed convert my words into waves of energy and transmit them to the dog, allowing it to understand my voice. This function indeed has to do with the cloudy ore. Perhaps I should find more spiritual materials and add a bit more of the cloudy ore so I can upgrade The Whisperer.”

It was currently The Whisperer. It would be The Whisperer v2.0 if he were to cultivate it with additional spiritual material and cloudy ore. How would its functions be improved?

As he approached the can, Ning Tao saw some filthy bread that someone had thrown into it. He did not mind it being dirty and promptly picked the bread up, then walked toward the dog while saying, “Don't be scared, I won't harm you, I just want to give you this piece of bread.”

The stray dog did not run away. It faced Ning Tao, wagging its dirty tail.

Ning Tao squatted down. Instead of placing it on the ground covered in slurry, he had opened up his palm to be used as a dog bowl. “Quickly eat.”

The stray dog bit the half piece of bread, then wolfed it down. It must have been famished.

Ning Tao pet the stray dog's head as he inserted a bit of spiritual power into its body.

The stray dog became much better instantly. It stuck its tongue out and licked Ning Tao's palm, rubbing its face on Ning Tao while it made a whimpering noise.

The snowflakes on the chrysoprase-like clockface surged in Ning Tao's direction yet again. A whispering voice had come into Ning Tao's head again. “Master, take me home, I will be very very obedient.”

Ning Tao's heart softened and he was close to agreeing, but he shook his head. “I can't take you home. I can't even take care of myself, I don't have the ability to take care of you at all. You should go, it's dangerous here.”

The stray dog gazed forlornly at Ning Tao then turned to run away.

“How unexpected. You actually dug food out of a garbage can for a dog, and even fed it with your hands.” A familiar voice came from behind. Tang Zixian had arrived.

Ning Tao stood up and turned around. Just when he was turning around, he had opened the Unbreakable Fan, s.h.i.+elding himself with it.

As Tang Zixian was standing on the jetty, her face was beautiful, and her figure was slender and proportionate. She was wearing a light-blue denim jacket, a white low-cut t-s.h.i.+rt underneath, a pair of light blue jeans, and a pair of Adidas sneakers. Her whole being was giving off a sense of youthfulness.

Ning Tao felt for a moment that the Tang Zixian before him was not a pract.i.tioner, but rather a university student. Unfortunately, once she spoke, all the goodness he had felt disappeared immediately.

“It's a rainy day and you're still fanning yourself with a fan. You're even more pretentious than the poor scholars in ancient times. Don't you think you look really funny like this?” Tang Zixian never had anything nice to say.

Ning Tao smiled slightly. “I'm already here. You can say whatever you want.”

Tang Zixian stepped forth. “Get on the boat.”

Ning Tao looked over. He saw a small traditional boat behind Tang Zixian. It was tied to a wooden block beside her with a string, a few meters away from the harbor. He did not go over, but only glanced at it. At this moment, he inserted a shred of spiritual power into The Whisperer, and thought to himself internally, “You want me to get on the boat. Where do you want to take me?”

Odd. Snowflakes were falling on the clockface, but it did not surge toward Tang Zixian. She had also clearly not reacted to hearing any “whispers”.

Ning Tao was slightly disappointed, thinking to himself, “Can the connection only be established with dogs?”

Energy connections using the cloudy ore as a medium was referred to as cloud connection.

Tang Zixian frowned slightly. “Are you deaf? Do you not hear that I'm talking to you?”

Ning Tao looked at her. “You're throwing your weight around here as a young lady of the Tang Sect? You think I'll get on the boat just because you want me to? Don't you think you're overestimating yourself? Just say it here. If you don't want to say it, then I'm leaving.”

Tang Zixian's expression turned cold. “What did you eat for dinner to make you speak so abrasively?”

Ning Tao said, “Shoot. Why did you ask me here?”

“This is not a good place to talk.”

“Then forget it.” Ning Tao headed toward the G.o.d's Will electric motorbike.

“Wait,” Tang Zixian called out to stop Ning Tao.

“You're willing to say it now?” Ning Tao looked at Tang Zixian.

Tang Zixian fell into silence for a while before saying, “Bai Sheng must die.”

Ning Tao was stunned slightly. He inquired, “You've learned about Bai Sheng's ident.i.ty?”

Tang Zixian said, “A mere thousand-year-old snake demon. You think I can't see his true form? He had killed his mother and harmed young girls, which are nothing much. But he had even worked with the dark powers of the West, posing as a danger to the great land of China, and had even self-appointed himself as a G.o.d. Therefore, I can no longer tolerate him. Let's work together and kill him.”

Ning Tao was baffled. He wanted to kill Bai Sheng because he was the local tyrant. As the owner of the Sky Clinic, he had to kill Bai Sheng. But why did Tang Zixian want to kill Bai Sheng?

“Why, have I met a righteous female warrior?” Ning Tao said.

“How bitter,” Tang Zixian responded promptly.

“You're someone who wants to kill me. You suddenly looked for me and said you want to cooperate to kill Bai Sheng. Why should I trust you?” Ning Tao said.

Tang Zixian said coldly, “I was at the Asian Science Technology Forum today too. I'm very clear that that microchip and smart.w.a.tch are the new magic tools of the Western dark powers. The Western dark powers had already declared war on us. Once they've achieved their goals, the Eastern cultivation world would be eradicated. You've also seen it, they're not only targeting Eastern pract.i.tioners, but also ordinary civilians. They've targeted only civilians this time. They want to conquer this land in order to achieve the goal of apotheosis.”

“What do you mean 'conquer'?”

Tang Zixian's expression turned somber. “Enslave with money and ideological manipulation, gradually turning people into fervent devotees of the so-called new G.o.d. Once they've gotten their way, they can start wars just by a simple word of G.o.d. During such a time of crisis, I'm willing to put the bad blood between us aside for the moment. I'll deal with you after Bai Sheng is killed.”

Ning Tao fell deep in thought. He had to kill Bai Sheng, but was Tang Zixian trustworthy?

“Follow me, I'll take you to see someone,” Tang Zixian said.

Ning Tao said, “Who?”

“Master Fakong of the Cold River Temple,” Tang Zixian said. “In fact, it was Master Fakong who had called for this meeting tonight.”

“Who's Master Fakong?” Ning Tao asked.

Tang Zixian said, “You'll know once you're there.”

Ning Tao thought for a while then nodded. “Bring your boat over. I'm putting my electric motorbike on it.”

Tang Zixian: “…”
