Ning Tao had his own shortcut to go from the capital city to Hainan, and that was the rental apartment in Guan City's Hakka Alley. The lease for that apartment had yet to expire. He had left a blood lock in there; it would only take him a few seconds to travel to Guan City from the capital. It would save him a few thousand kilometres of traveling. Even when the rental apartment's lease expires in the future, he would still have the blood lock at Yinyue Mountain; that would still allow him to use the convenient door for traveling.
At 5 a.m., Ning Tao rushed to Zhanjiang harbor and rented a speedboat, directly heading to the Macun Port in Hainan. At 10 a.m., he alighted the speedboat and stepped on the jetty.
He had to draw a blood lock while in Hainan, so it would only take him a few seconds to get there.
After Ning Tao arrived at the harbor, a man of long hair and fair skin walked towards him; he was wearing a short-sleeved linen s.h.i.+rt and looked like an artist. The man was Zhang Chengdong, the imperial Qing physician. Even though they had only met once at the pract.i.tioner's flea market, he had some impression of this person.
“Aiya, Doctor Ning, you were incredibly fast. I was just thinking you would probably get here until the afternoon or the evening. I didn't expect you to be here so soon.” Zhang Chengdong recognized Ning Tao right away. He spoke as he walked, with a bright grin on his face.
Ning Tao approached Zhang Dongcheng and shook his hand. He smiled and said, “Hi, Imperial Physician Zhang. I was just worried that I would keep you waiting for too long, so I made my way here as soon as possible.”
Zhang Chengdong smiled shyly. “What imperial physician. That was eons ago. I haven't been an imperial physician for centuries. Let's go to my friend's house. I drove his car here. It's at the carpark right now.”
Despite saying so, he seemed to be quite pleased with being called “imperial physician.”
Ning Tao followed him to the carpark then got in a Ford Raptor Truck. Zhang Chengdong started the car and drove away. His driving skills were quite impressive despite being a cultivating doctor from the Qing Dynasty. He managed to drive a pickup truck as if he were driving a racing car, occasionally drifting whenever they took corners.
Ning Tao didn't mind; he was at ease. Having mastered the Powerful Tolerance to Beating, even if Zhang Dongcheng were to drive off the cliff or if they collided into a dump truck, he would still be unhurt.
“Imperial Physician Zhang, what is the name of your friend? Can you tell me more about him so I can greet him too when we meet?” Ning Tao asked while Zhang Chengdong drove toward the mountains.
Zhang Chengdong said, “Of course. I would have told you even if you didn't ask me. My friend is named Yang Sheng, and he's a…” He paused and he lowered his voice. “He's a fish demon, a thousand-year shark demon. It's a secret, don't tell anyone, alright? Some people, especially that Master Fakong, are prejudiced against demons and he keeps nagging about it. He's the one I can't stand the least.”
Ning Tao asked, “Imperial Physician Zhang also knows Master Fakong?”
Zhang Chengdong said, “It must be unusual for anyone in the cultivating world to not know him. I met him in the early 19th century. He would go to my cave residence every year for alms and tea leaves. I have a tea tree in my residence, a spiritual material. The tea leaves too. He would come and ask for it every year. Wouldn't you find it annoying?”
Ning Tao smiled. “I didn't expect Imperial Physician Zhang and Master Fakong to have such a relations.h.i.+p. Don't you worry, I won't say it. I have nothing against demons. A few of the friends around me are demons too.”
“Right, Doctor Ning, if I can solve the problem for you then you would have to help me with elixir refinement.”
“Of course, no problem. Imperial Physician Zhang, what elixir do you want me to help you make?”
Zhang Chengdong said, “You'll find out. It's not easy to talk about it on the road.”
He was leaving Ning Tao in suspense.
Ning Tao had an instinct that the elixir he wanted him to refine was not ordinary. The reason was simple: Zhang Chengdong was a cultivating doctor himself and he knew how to refine elixirs; he wouldn't need Ning Tao's help if it were just an ordinary elixir. Zhang Chengdong was willing to go to Hainan to help him, under the condition that Ning Tao would help him with his elixir refinement. If he could do it himself, then why would he bother going through all of that?
Refining elixirs would require prescriptions.
Ning Tao never forgot the elixirs he had refined, thus he was definitely willing to help.
After some casual chatting as the Ford Raptor was on the road for about 20 to 30 kilometers, it entered a secluded fis.h.i.+ng village.
The fis.h.i.+ng village was not big, only having a few tens of households, extending into the forest behind the beach. Some were wooden houses, others were huts built from palm leaves, sisal hemp or similar plants. It was quite special. A river stream pa.s.sed through the village. Following the river into the distance, a mountain range could be seen. The mountains were not particularly high but they were scenic.
There wasn't a sign of modernity in that place. It felt kind of like paradise on earth.
A few women were weaving nets on the beach. Ning Tao followed Zhang Chengdong to the beach, and a few women looked over at Ning Tao. Each of them were very young, very s.e.xy and pretty. Their clothes were somewhat revealing, forming a uniquely seductive image.
Seeing such pretty women weaving fish nets was indeed an odd image.
Ning Tao's heart skipped a beat. He activated his state of looking and was instantly shocked. The few beautiful and young women were all demons. The entire village was shrouded in a thick and rich demon aura.
That was not a human village. It was a demon village.
When Ning Tao was in his state of looking, a green glimmer flashed in the few women's eyes.
Ning Tao deactivated his state of looking. The skill would exhaust spiritual power and could reveal a force field of spiritual power. Ordinary humans would not be able to see it but pract.i.tioners and demons of certain level would definitely find out and could tell that he was spying.
The glimmer in the few women's eyes had vanished.
“Brother Zhang, is that the Doctor Ning you had mentioned to us?” A fish demon lady asked.
Zhang Chengdong waved. “Yes, this is Ning Tao, Doctor Ning. He has just arrived from Beidu.” He then whispered to Ning Tao, “They're all Yang Sheng's wives. Be careful later and don't get into trouble.”
Ning Tao was shocked inside. There were five women weaving a net. That Yang Sheng actually had five wives. However, he appeared collected on the outside and also waved and greeted, “I'm Ning Tao, h.e.l.lo to all of you, sister-in-laws.”
“Aiyo, I haven't seen such a pretty boy in a long time.”
“Brother Ning, how about you stay in our village. The girls in our village are pretty and friendly.”
“The clan family's girl is not bad. She's fair and pretty. How about I help as matchmaker for you two?”
“Hehehe…”
The few fish demons continued to boldly tease Ning Tao who was new to the place.
Ning Tao didn't dare to respond and continued following Zhang Chengdong through the beach with his head hung low.
Zhang Chengdong led Ning Tao upstream, smiling as he said, “Doctor Ning, fish demons are natural beauties. If you like the idea, you can really stay here, to go out fis.h.i.+ng when the sun is up and rest when sunset comes, living sweet and blissful days.”
Ning Tao coughed. “Imperial Physician Zhang, don't tease me. I'm focused on cultivation, I'm not interested in romance.”
“Then it's because you haven't tasted it yet. I married 18 wives in total and have descendants all over the world. I've been in a relations.h.i.+p with a Spanish model recently and I'm preparing to marry for the 19th time. Wait until you're the same as me after getting a taste of it. You'll learn to enjoy it, Haha!”
Ning Tao: “…”
The current cultivation world had indeed fallen.
Just when they were chatting, Zhang Chengdong paused before a wooden tower.
The tower had two floors. It appeared simple but it was more than it seemed. A few of its pillars were all made of underwater spiritual material named “Steel Kelps.” Even on a hot tropical island, it would ensure that the wooden tower and its surroundings would have a cool and fresh atmosphere.
The Compendium of Spiritual Materials left behind by Xuan Tianzi doc.u.mented content of underwater spiritual material. It wasn't much, but “Steel Kelp” was one of them. It was described that Steel Kelp grew in seabeds containing spiritual soil. At its longest, it would be up to 100 meters tall and would need a person to wrap his arms around it. The material was of tough nature, even better than the Taoist's refined metal. It was a premium construction material for building cave residences. However, Steel Kelps only grew in the deep sea, which was exactly out of bounds for humans. So it rarely appeared on land. And yet it was unexpected that there would be a wooden tower made of Steel Kelp there. It was an impressive investment.
Just when he was observing the wooden tower, Ning Tao captured a unique scent. He was instantly stunned the moment he looked over.
It was a plantain tree growing next to the wooden tower. Its body was as black as ink. A few bunches of plantains were growing on the stem; they were so black that they were glowing. It was obvious that they weren't ordinary objects.
That was an Iron Plaintain, the last spiritual material required by the Tianbao Weaving Method.
Zhang Chengdong glanced at the banana tree and smiled as he said, “Doctor Ning, I didn't lie to you, right? That's the Iron Plaintain you wanted.”
When a door in the second floor opened, a half-naked man who was only wearing a pair of briefs walked out from the door. He was at least 2 meters tall; his figure was extremely towering and the contours of his muscles were very well-balanced, as if he were an extremely chiseled merman. There were many tattoos on his body. Some were complicated patterns and there were also some mysterious runes. The most obvious one was a shark tattooed on his chest. It looked lifelike, as if it would swim out of the man's body.
There was no doubt, Ning Tao knew who he was. He was Yang Sheng, the shark demon. It was very strange for a shark demon to have a human name. There had to be some story behind it.
Indeed, Zhang Chengdong continued to introduce, “Yang Sheng, this is my friend Ning Tao, Doctor Ning. I've brought him to meet you.”
Ning Tao approached with a smile and greeted, “Senior Yang, nice to meet you.”
Yet, Yang Sheng turned and entered the room, slamming the door behind him.
Ning Tao was instantly stunned. What att.i.tude was that?
Zhang Chengdong also appeared slightly confused. “Doctor Ning. I'm sorry, I'll go check…”
But before Zhang Chengdong had entered the wooden tower, that door opened again. A shadow suddenly launched out from inside. Just then, a light flashed past, stabbing towards Ning Tao!
